The red grouse is a bird of heather moorland with a range restricted to areas of blanket bog and upland shrub heath. Since the mid-1800s, many areas of heather have been managed to produce grouse for shooting. Indeed, grouse shooting has been one of the major land uses of upland ground and an important source of income for many estates. Shooting Season 12th August - 10th December in Great Britain (in Northern Ireland 12th August - 30th November)

Roe deer are one of Britain’s native deer species and have become the most widespread. They became largely extinct in the 1700s and were only later reintroduced. Before 1960 they were treated as vermin owing to the damage they cause to the forestry industry. Unlike other deer, they do not live in herds, but are most often seen as solitary individuals or as a family group of a mother and her offspring.

The red deer is Britain’s largest land mammal. Although native to Britain, it is also found in southern Scandinavia, Turkey and as far as China and Mongolia. During the rut, mature stags invest much time and effort into competing with other males for access to females. Red deer are herbivores and graze a wide variety of plants from grasses and heather, to shrubs and trees.
