“We’re just taking what’s ours” - Bensurto, DFA Text and images by Chared Verschuur-Ballo Filipinos in the Netherlands were briefed on the issue of the West Philippine Sea at the Philippine Embassy in The Hague, The Netherlands. Atty. Henry Bensurto, Jr. of the Department of Foreign Affairs led the briefing. “It is important for Filipinos to know what the policy is all about. We need everyone’s support in our fight to take back the West Philippine Sea. To get that support, they have to know what we’re fighting for,” he explained. He ensured the Filipinos present during the briefing that the maintenance of the relationship of China and the Philippines are of paramount importance and that we do not intend to go to war because of the dispute.

We will try to resolve this as peaceful as possible. No one in his right mind will wage war against another country because no wins in a war. - Bensurto

“We are just taking what’s ours. It is good to resolve this now, once and for all,” Bensurto added.

The Department of Foreign Affairs assured Filipinos abroad that the relationship between the Philippines and China will not be affected by the dispute.
