Mel Brimfield From This World, to That Which Is to Come Preview | Rhagddangosiad: 20.03.20, 6-8PM The exhibition takes its title from John Bunyan’s 1678 parable The Pilgrim’s Progress, written whilst incarcerated in Bedford Gaol for lay preaching. Within the narrative, as Bunyan sleeps, he dreams of devout everyman Christian, who abandons his family and the City of Destruction to journey to the Celestial City and salvation. This infamous fictional pilgrimage is adopted by Bedford-born Brimfield as a loose allegory for a collapse of mental health and fraught journey to recovery. Scripted audio monologues and film works are staged amidst theatrical sets and props, casting visitors as both audience and performer. In the darkly comedic Ungeziefer, a hapless voiceover artist attempts to record an abridged audiobook of Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, heckled by a cast of shrieking voices. Xenobath begins as a detective’s log of a surveillance operation before dissolving into a poetic monologue, a collective hallucination articulated by an oscillating swarm of voices. The alienating effects of perceptual and cognitive malfunction resonate throughout the body of work on display. The accessibility and value of creativity to the isolated is both the subject and method of STAND, produced in collaboration with composer Gwyneth Herbert. The epic sound piece foregrounds organisations across the UK who provide crucial opportunities for socialising through communal activity to support wellness and recovery.

Mae teitl yr arddangosfa yn dod o lyfr John Bunyan o 1678, The Pilgrim’s Progress, a ysgrifennodd pan oedd yng Ngharchar Bedford am bregethu lleyg. Yn y naratif, wrth i Bunyan gysgu mae’n breuddwydio am Christian, dyn pobun duwiol sy’n gadael ei deulu a Dinas Dinistr i deithio i’r Ddinas Nefolaidd ac at iachawdwriaeth. Mae Mel Brimfield, a anwyd yn Bedford, yn defnyddio’r bererindod ffuglennol enwog yma fel dameg fras am gwymp iechyd meddwl a thaith ofidus at adferiad. Mae darnau ffilm a monologau sain wedi’u sgriptio wedi’u llwyfannu ymhlith setiau ac offer theatr, sy’n troi’r ymwelwyr yn gynulleidfa ac yn berfformwyr. Yn yr Ungeziefer doniol a thywyll, mae artist lleisio anffodus yn ceisio recordio llyfr sain cryno o Metamorphosis gan Franz Kafka, ond caiff ei heclo gan gast o leisiau’n sgrechian. Mae Xenobath yn dechrau fel cofnod ditectif o gyrch goruchwyliaeth, cyn ymdoddi’n fonolog farddonol, rhithweledigaeth gasgliadol wedi’i chyfleu gan haid o leisiau’n pendilio. Mae effaith arallu diffyg gwybyddol a chanfyddiadol yn cyseinio drwy’r corff o waith a gaiff ei arddangos. Hygyrchedd a gwerth creadigrwydd i’r arunig yw pwnc a dull STAND, a gynhyrchwyd ar y cyd â’r gyfansoddwraig Gwyneth Herbert. Mae’r darn sain epig yn flaendir i sefydliadau ledled gwledydd Prydain sy’n darparu cyfleoedd hollbwysig ar gyfer cymdeithasu drwy weithgarwch cymunedol i gefnogi llesiant a gwella.

Ron Geesin 07.02 8pm

13.02 2pm From Rome To Stourbridge : 2000 Years If Cameo Glass Charles Hajdamach Cameo glass has the most romantic history in glassmaking. It first appears during the Roman Empire with masterpieces such as the Portland Vase. The process was lost for almost 2,000 years until it was revived in Stourbridge in 1876. The cameo tradition continues around the world today because of the Stourbridge cameo artists who had a huge influence on major European and American glassmakers.

O Rufain i Stourbridge: 2000 o Flynyddoedd o Wydr Cameo – Charles Hajdamach Hanes gwydr cameo yw un o hanesion mwyaf rhamantus y byd gwydr. Ymddangosodd yn wreiddiol yn ystod yr Ymerodraeth Rufeinig, gyda champweithiau fel Ffiol Portland. Collwyd y broses am bron i 2,000 o flynyddoedd, nes iddi gael ei hadfywio yn Stourbridge ym 1876. Mae’r traddodiad cameo yn parhau ledled y byd heddiw, diolch i artistiaid cameo Stourbridge, yr oedd ganddynt ddylanwad mawr ar wneuthurwyr gwydr Ewrop ac America. £7 (on the door, space permitting | wrth y drws, yn ddibynnol ar le).

Until | Tan 18.03.20 In 1972 Garth Evans created a large-scale sculpture that was placed in The Hayes, Cardiff city centre for six months as part of a ground-breaking national sculpture project. Garth chose Cardiff as the location for his work as he had very strong family connections with Wales and his Welsh grandfather’s tales of his time as a miner were hugely influential in the sculpture’s form — evoking both a hammer-like tool and the image of a mine tunnel. After the project, the sculpture was relocated to Leicestershire where it remained hidden, neglected and unseen by the public for almost 50 years. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign supported by Art Happens with Art Fund, the generous donations of the public have enabled us to carry out the specialist restoration that was so desperately needed. In a unique project, Chapter has been able to return the work to its original location, for six months. You can see it at The Hayes, in Cardiff city centre.

Ym 1972, creodd Garth Evans gerflun ar raddfa fawr a osodwyd yn yr Aes yng nghanol dinas Caerdydd am chwe mis fel rhan o brosiect cerfluniau ledled gwledydd Prydain a oedd yn torri tir newydd. Dewisodd Garth Gaerdydd yn lleoliad i’w waith, gan fod ganddo gysylltiadau teuluol cryf iawn gyda Chymru, ac roedd hanesion ei daid am ei gyfnod fel glöwr yn ddylanwadol iawn ar ffurf y cerflun – sy’n ymdebygu i siâp morthwyl ac i dwnnel glofa. Ar ôl y prosiect, symudwyd y cerflun i Swydd Gaerlŷr, ac yno mae wedi cael ei esgeuluso a’i guddio rhag y cyhoedd ers bron i hanner can mlynedd. Yn dilyn ymgyrch cyllido torfol lwyddiannus gyda chefnogaeth Art Happens gydag Art Fund, mae rhoddion hael y cyhoedd wedi’n galluogi ni i gynnal y gwaith adfer arbenigol yr oedd mawr ei angen arno. Mewn prosiect unigryw, mae Chapter wedi gallu dychwelyd y gwaith i’w leoliad gwreiddiol, am chwe mis. Mae i’w weld yn yr Aes, yng nghanol dinas Caerdydd.

About the Artist Garth Evans was born in Cheshire in 1934 and studied sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art, London and now lives and works in North East Connecticut, USA. Since the 1960s, Evans has exhibited widely across the UK and USA including in ‘British Sculpture ‘72’, Royal Academy of Arts, London (1972) and ‘The Condition of Sculpture’, Hayward Gallery, London (1975). His work is represented in numerous collections including Tate; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum.

Ynglŷn â’r artist Ganwyd Garth Evans yn Swydd Gaer ym 1934, ac astudiodd gerflunio yn Ysgol Celf Gain Slade, Llundain ac mae’n byw ac yn gweithio bellach yn Ne Ddwyrain Connecticut, Unol Daleithiau America. Ers y chwedegau, mae Garth wedi arddangos ei waith ledled gwledydd Prydain ac Unol Daleithiau America, gan gynnwys yn ‘British Sculpture ‘72’, Academi Frenhinol y Celfyddydau, Llundain (1972) a ‘The Condition of Sculpture’, Oriel Hayward, Llundain (1975). Yn 2013, curadodd yr artist Richard Deacon arddangosfa arolwg ‘Garth Evans’ ym Mharc Cerfluniau Swydd Efrog. Mae ei waith i’w weld mewn nifer o gasgliadau, yn cynnwys y Tate; yr Amgueddfa Gelf Fetropolitan, Efrog Newydd; yr Amgueddfa Celfyddydau Modern, Efrog Newydd; Amgueddfa Fictoria ac Albert, a’r Amgueddfa Brydeinig.

Exhibition supported by The Henry Moore Foundation and Hales Gallery. The sculpture project is supported by Art Fund through Art Happens, Studio Response, Anthony Stokes, Landsec, Cardiff City Council and the many donors and supporters who made the restoration and relocation possible.

Cefnogir yr arddangosfa gan Sefydliad Henry Moore ac Oriel Hales. Cefnogir prosiect y cerflun gan Art Fund drwy Art Happens, Studio Response, Anthony Stokes, Landsec, Cyngor Dinas Caerdydd a’r noddwyr a’r cefnogwyr niferus a wnaeth y gwaith adfer ac ail-leoli’n bosib.
