Reflections From the Chaps ~ June 20, 2011

Happy Father’s Day! Chaplain’s Reflection: Throughout the years, I have more than once heard the adage, that most any male of age can father a child, but it takes a real man to be a great father. I like that saying, because I believe it is so true. Actually, when I think of a great dad or father, it’s difficult not to think of our Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment. A good father espouses all these qualities. He considers it a tremendous honor to simply be a father, he has courage to be a good role model and raise his child or children in a worthy manner, even when it’s not so cool and he is committed to his incredible responsibility no matter what happens and even when times get tough! Speaking of honor, I hope you will take time to honor the fathers you know and love out there by simply recognizing them for who they are and what they do. Take care, God bless and a sincere Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there who have made life so special for us! Food 4 Thought: “He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.” –Clarence Budington Kelland A Second Helping: “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.” –Mark Twain Dessert with a Smile: "A father carries pictures where his money used to be.” –Anonymous
