The Importance of Remembering Chaplain’s Reflection: While I readily admit I am the very first to want to take a day off with my family, fire up the BBQ and enjoy life, I am also aware of how easy it is, if not careful, to let special days evolve into time of mere entertainment. I believe Memorial Day is one of those days that need to be reflected on using the original etymology of the word holiday; it needs to be a, holy-day. Not that it should necessarily hold religious meaning for everyone, but that it should be set aside as special, holy, where we take ample time to reflect on its original meaning and remember the incredible sacrifices so many have made to give you and I the freedom we love and cherish. I am very aware that so many of you not only do the remembering part, but the sacrifice as well, to ensure our country’s freedom. I hope none of us ever forget the importance of what we do out here, nor those who have paid the ultimate price while wearing the uniform.
