Letter From Your Editor: Hey everyone, Once again the holiday season has arrived and 2013 is coming to a close. It’s amazing how much we’ve done this year as a club and I have to say this has been a wonderful term thanks to the spirit and enthusiasm of our members. As a club officer I am very fortunate to be able to guide and motivate such a passionate and delightful group of Key Clubbers. :) My favorite part about the Thanksgiving Run was getting to spend the morning with my Key Club family and enjoying our time together, and not discussing school, the future, or anything of that nature. Instead, we cheered. laughed, and scrambled to distribute enough water for the runners— all of those were cherished times. The last club photo we took was for last year’s yearbook. So I decided it was time for a new one. As time consuming as my job is, the patience and dedication of our volunteers makes it so rewarding and tremendous. I thank each and every member for their commitment and labor, and I wish everyone a safe and happy winter vacation. Hope to see you all in 2014!

Sincerely,

Chantalle Cheung 2

FALL RALLY Fall Rally took place on November 9th at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Attendees enjoyed a long day at the park celebrating service, showing individual spirit and division pride, and helping raise awareness for our CNH Kiwanis Foundation’s Pediatric Trauma Program. The proceeds from the ticket sales in addition to the funds raised through bake sales, car washes, and more by Key Clubbers are donated on behalf of the respective divisions to support PTP.

This year, Fall Rally had a slow start. Security check held up the lines, causing over half of our club to arrive late. Since we only had a few members in the stadium on time, our division didn’t make it past the preliminary rounds of the spirit battle. But despite these reasons, our division remained spirited and cheerful. In the end, the fun and excitement of the entire day brought people even closer as a Key Club family, and that’s enough to be joyous about.

Thanksgiving Run On a bright and early Thanksgiving morning, 20 volunteers showed up at the Foothill Blvd. and Castle Rd. intersection to help set up the water station turnaround for the annual 5K Thanksgiving Day Run hosted by The Community Center of La Canada Flintridge . Key Clubbers cheered and encouraged the marathon runners while continuously pouring water into cups and handing them out. While there were many splashes and spills, everyone had high energy and enthusiasm throughout the entire event.

Philippines Typhoon Relief Fundraiser

What is Trick-or Treat for UNICEF? Every Halloween, the orange UNICEF boxes let trick-or-treaters collect change along with candy. Over $170 million has been raised since the campaign started in 1950, helping UNICEF provide life saving medicine, nutrition, clean water, education, and emergency relief to children all over the world. The cumulative impact of pennies, nickels and dimes has been enormous. Every Key Clubber has the power to impact another child's life, even if the total raised seems small.

Recently, the Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines killing about 10,000 people and left around 600,000 homeless, displaced, and in dire need of assistance. UNICEF, the same organization behind the Trick-or-Treat fundraiser, is leading the relief efforts. Due to our current partnering with UNICEF, La Canada Key Clubbers were able to take a part in the relief effort. After spending an hour counting all the coins and dollar bills, the total amount of money added up to over $450! Through the money raised with the Trick-or-Treat boxes, we can provide assistance to make a difference in people’s lives.
