The history of the iconic “lion” logo of Peugeot traces back to 1847, when the company used to manufacture saw blades and steel goods. According to branding experts, the lion portrays three major attributes of Peugeot saw blades; the strong teeth, the elastic blade, and the swift cut. The logo first appeared on the “Peugeot Bros” arrow in 1950, and was registered as a trademark in 1858. Peugeot cars are identified by their trademarked three or four digit numerical name that represents their specific model type. Instead of using words or descriptive terms, Peugeot has always used numbers to label their vehicles: for example, three digits like 207 and 308 for regular cars, and four digits like 4007 for SUVs and 4X4s. These numbers stamped on all Peugeot cars are not randomly chosen; each digit represents a part of the Peugeot identity. What sets Peugeot Pinetown apart from other dealerships? • Our passion. Every member of our staff is well trained and extremely passionate about the brand which they represent and that translates into unrivalled commitment to satisfy each and every one of our customers needs. • Peugeot Pinetown’s management team with over 35 years experience and numerous accolades received from Peugeot South Africa. • No other Peugeot Dealer is more actively involved in their community for example, our 8 year relationship with Meals On Wheels (recently celebrated their 50th anniversary) who we partner with to deliver meals to communities throughout South Africa and have currently supplied over 60 panel vans to ensure efficient delivery, as well as transport for the aged. • The first dealer outside of France to open a boutique store inside the Galleria Mall as well as our partnership with Glenwood Prepatory School.

Judges Settle on Top Ten for Fashion Challenge Durban - Ten designs encompassing the spirit of the Vodacom Durban July theme “The Big Screen” have been chosen from around the country for the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Challenge presented by LIPSY. Five of Durban’s favourite designers and fashion influencers sifted through the vast number of storyboard entries to select the ten designs that best reflected the elegant fashion flavour of the Vodacom Durban July. After thorough deliberation emerging designers Nthabeleng Tseeke, Sthembile Zuma, Ngcebo Mnyandu, Larisa Terblanche, Daniel Panton, Sibusiswe Msimang, Gloudine Van Der Ryst, Refiloe Neo Mocwa, Hanli Van Der Spuy, Kabelo Legodi and Samantha Rosemary Feher were hand-picked by the judges. “In terms of the Big Screen theme, it really is such a wide scope. Simply, the top ten managed to think out of the box,” expressed judge Terrence Pillay. “It’s very easy to design something that’s a typical red carpet Hollywood look, but a lot of these designers actually visited the movies in their design,” Pillay added. Designs drew inspiration from timeless classics like The Great Gatsby and James Bond as well as silver screen icons Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin. Much loved fashion designer Kathrin Kidger echoed Pillay’s words. “The selection of designs incorporated so many different aspects of the theme. We are really looking forward to an elegant, well-polished July.” The fashion forward designs impressed Monica Holman of Gold Circle. “It’s exciting to see designs following European trends. It's going to be one amazing runway show!” Designs were chosen according to a tough creative brief that included fashion components such as fit, quality-of-finish and interpretation of the theme. Sindi Shangase from the Durban Fashion Fair further explained the judge’s final decision saying that, “The chosen designs are able to be translated into a garment that can be worn and that the model will be comfortable in.” “The top ten have interpreted the theme well this year and I’m so excited to see the finished product,” said top Durban designer Zama Mathe, who along with Kidger will feature in the line-up for the Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase, presented by LIPSY. The public can view the top ten designs at the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase on 18th and 20th June at Greyville Racecourse and at the Vodacom Durban July Preview Fashion Show at Gateway on 4th July.

Bookworms Do it Better.

1. You will optimize your brain power. This shouldn’t come as a shock, but studies suggest reading makes you smart. Unlike watching television, which requires no thought process, reading is an active learning experience that will keep your mind sharp (even in old age). 2. You will increase your odds of success. The more books you read, the more knowledge you will have, the more strategies and resources your brain will store, the more likely you will succeed. 3. You will immerse yourself in a new world. Sometimes our daily life can start to feel dull, dry or depressing - I know it, you know it, we all know it. At times like this, we like to dive into a good fiction book for a much-needed escape into another world, where we can forget about whatever problems are stressing us out. Whether you want to travel to the land of the Hobbits, a galaxy far away or a tropical destination in a steamy romance novel is up to you. You’ll come back refreshed after your mini-vacation to a fresh and exciting place in the world of words.

you know _____?” more often, making it easier to start conversations with strangers (or, as I like to say, “People who aren’t my friends yet”). 6. You will entertain yourself for a low price. If you’re looking for entertainment on a budget, you can’t beat books. Thanks to the popularity of electronic reading devices like the Kindle and re-selling websites like eBay, it’s never been easier to entertain yourself for hours at a time, for the low cost. 7. You will discover surprising new ideas that are interesting and engaging. Reading introduces us to concepts like mindful eating, relaxation exercises, and the importance of loving ourselves. If we didn’t read, we wouldn’t even be aware of these ideas, which have defined our entire coaching philosophy. If you don’t read, you could be missing out on intriguing ideas that would likewise re-define your personal purpose or business philosophy.

4. You will improve your vocabulary. The more words you’re capable of using, the better you will become at expressing your thoughts and feelings. I couldn’t imagine how we would write articles like this if we didn’t actively aim to expand our vocabulary, because using the same few words to express ourselves would get awfully boring in a hurry (don’t you agree?).

8. You will eliminate boredom during down-time.Have you ever found yourself stuck in a waiting room, bored out of your mind, with nothing to read but gossip magazines? If so, you should know that it is wise to keep a book in your purse or car at all times, as you never know when you’ll find yourself with some time to kill. Even if you just take a few minutes to read a chapter during your commute and lunch break every day, those minutes will quickly turn into hours if repeated consistently.

5. You will have things to talk about at parties. Reading more books will enable you to say the sentence, “Did

9. You will strengthen your patience muscles. We live in a society that expects instant gratification, which

is anything, but a blessing for most people’s success in life, as there is nothing “quick” or “easy” about losing weight or starting a successful business. While it might be “easier” to watch a two-hour movie, it is far more beneficial to spend forty-eight hours reading a book. Opting for the book over the TV will strengthen your patience muscles over time, resulting in more success in business and life. 10. You will become an expert in your field. Don’t you think reading academic journals, articles, and books by experts in your field might make you better at what you do? If you can’t be bothered to learn more about your profession, then your lack of passion could be a sign that you’re in the wrong field. The more books you read, the better off you’re gonna be. 11. You will reduce stress and unwind into a good night’s sleep. Exposing yourself to artificial light on your cellphone, TV or tablet reduces your body’s production of melatonin, which can make it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, if you do so late at night. You would be wise to cut off all electronics at least an hour before bed, and replace that with a good book, which is a much better sleep-friendly alternative. 12. You will change your life. I firmly believe that if it wasn’t for books, I wouldn’t have achieved an awful lot in my life; nor would I have the knowledge, imagination or creativity that I depend on as a writer, business owner, and coach. I hope these reasons to read more books encourage you to unlock your potential with the power of reading.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION So... we’ve reached a point in our relationship to discuss that ‘let’s hide our heads under the duvet cover and pretend it didn’t happen!’ subject. It’s time to come clean and speak openly about a topic often considered taboo (what happens in the bedroom, stays in the bedroom ‌ I hear someone whispering!) ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION, believe it or not, affects an estimated 11 million men in Africa. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection adequate for satisfying sexual activity. Back to basics‌ during sexual stimulation, the brain-nerve-blood vessel pathway effects an increase in blood flow to the penis causing engorgement with blood leading to stiffening and elongation. After sexual activity, the blood is able to flow out of the penis, causing it to become flaccid. Therefore, it makes sense that anything that interferes with this process can cause ED – these include arterial disease (high blood pressure, diabetes, cigarette smoking, high cholesterol, obesity) chronic kidney or heart disease, stroke, spinal cord or nerve injury, overuse of alcohol, psychological issues (stress, anxiety, depression), side effect of medication. Of note, cardiovascular disease is linked to ED due to the underlying arterial disease and ED is often, the first presenting marker of underlying CV pathology. The first step in treating ED is to overcome the stigma attached to it – on both the side of the health practitioner and the patient. Speak to your partner, come in as a couple (if u’re comfortable, that is) and let’s address the problem. We have to find out the underlying issue instead of labelling everything as ‘performance anxiety’. And Please ‌ I beg you .. don’t rush for a quick fix: the harder, stronger, makes you last longer cure might be your next admission letter to hospital.

Be safe – come in‌ we have much to chat about! HAPPY FATHER’S DAY‌ to the brave, strong, dedicated and ever-patient dads.

Ways to Improve Your Memory By Dr. Mercola

It was once believed that brain function peaked during early adulthood and then slowly declined, leading to lapses in memory and brain fog during your golden years. Now it's known that our modern lifestyle plays a significant role in contributing to cognitive decline, which is why exposure to toxins, chemicals, poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, and much more can actually hinder the functioning of your brain. The flipside is also true in that a healthy lifestyle can support your brain health and even encourage your brain to grow new neurons, a process known as neurogenesis. Your brain's hippocampus, i.e. the memory center, is especially able to grow new cells and it's now known that your hippocampus regenerates throughout your entire lifetime (even into your 90s), provided you give it the tools to do so. These "tools" are primarily lifestylebased, which is wonderful news. You don't need an expensive prescription medication or any medical procedure at all to boost your brain, and your memory. You simply must try out the following tricks to improve your memory.

Eat Right

The foods you eat – and don't eat – play a crucial role in your memory. Fresh vegetables are essential, as are healthy fats and avoiding sugar and grain carbohydrates. For instance, curry, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and walnuts contain antioxidants and other compounds that protect your brain health and may even stimulate the production of new brain cells. Increasing your animal-based omega-3 fat intake and reducing consumption of damaged omega-6 fats (think processed vegetable oils)

in order to balance your omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, is also important. I prefer krill oil to fish oil, as krill oil also contains astaxanthin, which not only protects the omega-3 fats from oxidation but also appears to be particularly beneficial for brain health. Coconut oil is another healthful fat for brain function. According to research by Dr. Mary Newport, just over two tablespoons of coconut oil (about 35 ml or 7 level teaspoons) would supply you with the equivalent of 20 grams of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), which is indicated as either a preventative measure against degenerative neurological diseases, or as a treatment for an already established case.

Exercise encourages your brain to work at optimum capacity by stimulating nerve cells to multiply, strengthening their interconnections and protecting them from damage. During exercise nerve cells release proteins known as neurotrophic factors. One in particular, called brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), triggers numerous other chemicals that promote neural health, and directly benefits cognitive functions, including learning. A 2010 study on primates published in Neuroscience also revealed that regular exercise not only improved blood flow to the brain, but also helped the monkeys learn new tasks twice as quickly as non-exercising monkeys. This is a benefit the researchers believe would hold true for people as well.1 In a separate one yearlong study, individuals who engaged in exercise were actually growing and expanding the brain's memory center one to two percent per year,

where typically that center would have continued to decline in size. To get the most out of your workouts, I recommend a comprehensive program that includes high-intensity interval exercise, strength training, stretching, and core work, along with regular intermittent movement.

Stop Multitasking

Used for decades to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible, as quickly as possible. Ultimately, multitasking may actually slow you down, make you prone to errors as well as make you forgetful. Research shows you actually need about eight seconds to commit a piece of information to your memory, so if you're talking on your phone and carrying in groceries when you put down your car keys, you're unlikely to remember where you left them. The opposite of multitasking would be mindfulness, which helps you achieve undistracted focus. Students who took a mindfulness class improved reading comprehension test scores and working memory capacity, as well as experienced fewer distracting thoughts. If you find yourself trying to complete five tasks at once, stop yourself and focus your attention back to the task at hand. If distracting thoughts enter your head, remind yourself that these are only "projections," not reality, and allow them to pass by without stressing you out. You can then end your day with a 10- or 15-minute meditation session to help stop your mind from wandering and relax into a restful sleep.

UNMARRIED FATHERS KNOW YOUR RIGHTS The general public have a misperception that the rights of biological unmarried fathers are limited in respect of their child/children and that the mother has complete control over what is best for their child/children. The Children’s Act 38 of 2005 repealed many of the old laws that regulated the relationship between parents and their children in South Africa, including the Natural Fathers of Children Born out of Wedlock Act 86 of 1997. The biological unmarried father acquires full parental responsibilities and rights in respect of the child, if at the time of the child’s birth he is living with the mother in a permanent life-partnership or if he, regardless of whether he has lived or is living with the mother consents to be identified or successfully applies in terms of section 26 of The Children’s Act to be identified as the child’s father or pays damages in terms of customary law or contributes or has attempted in good faith to contribute to the child’s upbringing for a reasonable period and contributes or has attempted in good faith to contribute towards expenses in connection with the maintenance of the child for a reasonable period. This does not affect the duty of a father to contribute towards the maintenance of the child in any way. In legal terms, what does the phrase “full parental responsibilities and rights” actually mean and include? 1. The responsibility and right to care for the child; 2. To maintain contact with the child; 3. To act as guardian of the child; 4. To contribute to the maintenance of the child. If there is a dispute between the biological unmarried father and the biological mother of a child with regard to the fulfilment by that unmarried father of the conditions set out above or where the biological mother refuses contact with the child/children to the biological father, the matter must be referred for mediation to a family advocate, social worker, social service professional or other suitably qualified person. Any party to the mediation may have the outcome of the mediation reviewed by a court. This applies regardless of whether the child was born before or after the commencement of this Act. Unmarried fathers of child/children born out of wedlock now have more effective ways to obtain, challenge and enforce the rights they may have in respect of their child/children. The new Children’s Act has addressed the failures of the past and has provided for equality between parents.

Father, dear father!

By Felicity Keats

There is a very special place in any girl, or woman’s life, that

belongs to her father. Boys too look up to that role model of how to live and what is right to do. So we honour our men on father’s day and give love and special blessings for that first-ever man in a girl’s life, and for that great example to a boy. Men symbolize the Mars element – warrior like, strong, climbing mountains, developing cities, out to make the world, and their own lives, all the better for their involvement. This takes strength to overcome enormous hurdles, to be able to leapfrog up to a higher level when the sun seems to have disappeared and still to offer leadership and support to their wives and their families. This is no mean task that our men, and father’s, perform. Even in a humble position, they labour for their loved ones, their wives and children, working hard and doing the best they can for a brighter future than perhaps they themselves never had. But in that Mars heart of theirs, there is also the Venus element, the soft and loving side, that has joy in seeing the flight and song of a bird, or the sunlight glimpsing through the dark trees. That softer side that gasps in wonder at seeing the unfurling of a new leaf, or the petals of a flower as they open to grace the day. Often this heart needs the soft touch of a woman, mother, wife, daughter or son, to honour the man on father’s day. A phone call, a box of chocolates or an unexpected joyful visit says to that man “I love you, and thank you for being a father. I really value you and what you have done for me.” So, let us heap blessings and love on the heads of our dear men – could we call them “fathers of the nation?”

Durban Youth Council

TThe Durban Youth Council is the Ultimate Youth Organisation in Durban "Today's Youth... Tomorrow's Leaders..." The Durban Youth Council has been operational since 1966 and is a project of the Junior Chamber South Africa (Durban Chapter). The Council is composed of over 100 grade 11 students from more than 40 schools in the Durban area, and is constantly growing. The Council strives to create young leaders who serve and support their community and make a difference in the lives of those around them. It is the students themselves that run the council with guidance of a Steering Committee. The Durban Youth Council is the ultimate youth organisation in Durban. DYC is a non-profit and a-political organisation that aims at uplifting the lifestyle of

Durban and in particular the youth. "Our vibrantly futuristic team is all for the youth" says Thando Hlongwane. All the money that is raised throughout their year is used to fund various Community Service based projects. Some money is also donated to an organisation of their choice on completion of their Council year. Each year brings new Councillors and presents unique challenges for the Council to work harder, persevere and donate more money than their predecessors, leaving a lasting legacy in Durban. ChangeNOW Magazine interviewed Thando Hlongwane, 2014 Mayor of the Durban Youth Council to give us more insight on the organization.

Thando Hlongwane, 2014 Mayor of the Durban Youth Council

What is the mission of Durban Youth Council (DYC)? The objective of the DYC is to develop young leaders through service to the community. The DYC's misson is to get young people involved in making a difference through community based projects. What advice would you give to current grade 10 students that want to be a part of DYC 2015? The best part about being a part of the DYC is that while learning and serving the community you are also having fun. If you are thinking of joining the DYC you need to understand that the DYC demands a lot of you, emotionally, physically and more so mentally. Your ability to balance and plan your life correctly

Durban Youth Council - Today's Youth... Tomorrow's

Uplifting Communities

ChangeNOW Magazine Supports our Youth.

will ultimately decide the success of your council year. If you have a passion for serving others, the spirit of Ubuntu, then joining the DYC is a decision you will never regret. What are the challenges that the DYC face? The first challenge has to do with the fact that we are a NPO and a NGO. We have no external financial support, which proves to be quite challenging because for every project we do, we have to fundraise or seek sponsorship. The DYC has over 100 enthusiastic Grade 11 learners from nearly 40 schools in the greater Durban area. We all know how challenging grade 11 can be. Hence, one of the challenges that council members face is striking a balance between Academics,

DYC and Extra-Curricular activities. What projects is the DYC currently working on? We are currently working on a project, which we call "Adopt a School". The DYC has adopted 2 schools in Umlazi, Isikhwelo and Zandile Primary. Together with the principals of the schools, we've identified problems in both schools and we are sourcing sponsorship and funding to solve all the problems in the two schools. Other projects include "Youth Month","Mandela Day", "World Blood Donor Day" and "One in a million". Everyone is talking about employability skills, how does the DYC equip its scholars for Life?

Leaders... One dream for all. Inspiring Change.

Being a part of The DYC is one of the most challenging, but also most rewarding things you could ever do. It teaches us teamwork, time management, reallife problem solving, planning skills and various other skills which will become an aid when we leave school. DYC members get a taste at what it is like to "work" for an organisation where each individual's commitment, dedication and hard work is essential for success of the organisation. What is most rewarding about being part of DYC? The most rewarding thing about being part of the DYC is knowing that you are working together with young people like yourself, who share the same passion, which is serving the community.

He’s the man!

Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III A.K.A Aloe Blacc won our hearts first with his single “I need a dollar” and now he’s topping the charts with “The Man.” Born on January 7th 1979 with a passion and talent for music, he started playing a rented trumpet when he was in third grade. But Blacc has come far from the young days of playing the trumpet and singing back up. Aloe Blacc performed the vocals on Avicii’s “Wake me up” and we all remember the frenzy that track created. “Wake me up” reached number one in 103 countries and became the fastest selling single in UK. We hope to hear many more great tunes featuring the man himself.

Looking for

Change_ Setters. We look at society and often we are the very first people to judge and criticise but really what is it that you are doing differently. In fashion we have the trendsetters those who push the boundaries but, what are we doing that instills change for a better human society. Maybe you’ve started your own business or you help out at the local shelter whether it is big or small it doesn’t matter. A great man once said, “Be the Change you want to see in the world.” So my fellow readers I challenge you to be a Change_Setter. Send me your story on why you are a Change_Setter with a photo of you as well as your twitter handle (if you have one) and I will feature you in next month’s magazine. E. T. @ChangeNOW_teenz

Transformers 4: Age of Extinction Our favourite mechanical friends are back but this time they may be in danger. A mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that will bring down the Autobots and Decipticons. A group of businessmen and scientists attempt to learn from the past and push the boundaries of technology. Unfortunately this movie does not feature Shia Labeouf, the talented and handsome Mark Wahlberg does justice to the main character (Cade Yeager). Also starring Nicola Peltz and Jay Reynor, you can catch this movie in cinemas from June 27th, 2014.

Keeping it relaxed I call this time study season because really this is when people suddenly pull out the files that are coated with cobwebs from under the bed and then attempt to learn. You’re studying and its cold so there is nothing better than a pair of sweats and your favourite hoodie. Wear something that makes you feel good and is comfortable so keep the skinny jeans and stilettos in your closets and go for the girl next-door look or what I call it “I just woke up now and I don’t care” look. You can find a variety of hoodies and sweat pants from many clothing outlets e.g. Mr. Price, Cotton On and Factorie.

Surfs Up! Calling all water babies and music junkies, watch the professionals ride the waves and hear the best of South African entertainment. Mr. Price Pro Ballito is back! One of the hottest surfing events in Durban will be held from 30th June. Start the holidays with a bang and head out to the beach, where the action will be happening from the extreme sporting competitions to the music concerts. The music lineup is fantastic with Matthew Mole, Gangs of Ballet, Chianosky, Mafikizolo, and Locnville. This is the beach event you don’t want to miss!

Nail-biting season Mid-term exams are here and this is usually the time where we cram till early hours of the morning, have excessive cravings and we seem to chew our whole nail off. My advice, just take a breather, calm down and honestly please get enough sleep. I doubt you’re going to remember much if you’re tired just before you write your exams. Have a good breakfast, I know that slab of chocolate looks tempting, but you can devour it, when you walk out of that exam feeling good. Keep your frame of mind positive and keep your thoughts in order. Oh!, one more thing try not to attempt to learn something brand new in the morning before your paper because you may end up confusing yourself more, putting you in a state of panic. Deep breath, smile, think and write.
