Drew S. Hernandez is 5’11”, a lifelong Arizonan, & the Chamber’s newest staff member. After graduating summa cum laude from ASU, Drew worked in-house for D2C & B2B companies to develop engaging initiatives that provide value for a variety of audiences. With a passion for film & 2D animation, Drew views marketing as an opportunity to tell interactive stories with chamber members as the main character, supporting on-brand campaigns that provide entertainment, education, or social currency. To him, ads aren’t competing with each other - they’re competing with everything a person can pay attention to, so businesses craving metric boosts need visuals & campaigns so compelling that the press will voluntarily cover them. 4

Workforce Development
CUSD Student Turned Successful Chandler Entrepreneur Christian Weninger’s entrepreneurial journey, rooted in Chandler Unified School District (CUSD), showcases a remarkable evolution from QNDP magazine to the dynamic entity that is NeverNot Social. Graduating in 2019, Christian faced initial criticism during the first year and a half due to his age, challenging the norms and perceptions surrounding young entrepreneurs. The transition from QNDP to NeverNot Social on March 1, 2020, marked a significant chapter. The team, now comprising five members and two paid interns, continued their impactful work, generating ideas that caught the attention of international companies. This evolution is well-captured on NeverNot Social’s website, illustrating their commitment to innovation in marketing and collaboration with global entities. Christian’s journey also includes recognition at Z Con, where he was invited as a changemaker from Gen Z. The narrative of NeverNot Social goes beyond business; it’s about amplifying the voices of Gen Z, ensuring they have a seat at the table in an ever-changing landscape. The website emphasizes the company’s ethos, highlighting the team’s dedication to challenging conventional norms, embracing creativity, and making a positive impact on the community. The about page emphasizes the team’s roots in CUSD and the mentorship that has played a crucial role in their success. Christian’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to changing the narrative for young entrepreneurs. Never Not Social stands as a testament to the power of youth voices, continually evolving and making waves in the digital marketing arena.
Innovation, Progress Embody the State of our City By: Mayor Kevin Hartke
This past year, numerous manufacturing and technology companies expanded their operations, new business ventures launched, and residents benefitted from diverse retail and restaurant experiences. Together, we worked with employers and educational partners to advance programs and the development of a skilled workforce necessary to fuel innovation and business growth in Chandler. These are a few of the notable successes of the past year that earned Chandler the 2023 Best City for Business title from the Arizona Commerce and Industry. I invite the Chandler Chamber and its members to join myself and members of the City Council as we explore these topics in more depth at the 2024 State of the City. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave. The event is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so members can take mingle, sample food with an international flair from Chandler restaurants and enjoy a community game night themed lobby experience. The program begins at 6:30 p.m., highlighting key accomplishments and previewing significant items ahead this year. Visit chandleraz.gov/ StateoftheCity for details as we celebrate our community. During this time of the year, we approach new opportunities with enthusiasm. It’s a time to set goals, pursue new endeavors and build on our collective success. Chandler is a place for bold ideas, strategic initiatives and collaborative ventures. The talent within our business community is a source of strength. Collaboration among Chandler’s business community and the city fosters an environment for innovation and mutual support. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of commerce and public policy, may this new year bring prosperity, growth and continued success. I look forward to our interactions at Chamber events and I hope you’ll join me at this year’s State of the City event.

NEW INITIATIVE
Chandler Chamber of Commerce Unveils New Initiatives for Workforce Development and Business-Education Partnership The Chandler Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of several new initiatives tailored to address the dynamic workforce and education needs of the business community. In September 2023, the Chamber carried out its annual Education and Workforce Development Survey. Among the business respondents, common challenges included a shortage of qualified candidates, deficits in occupational soft skills, and gaps in critical thinking. However, businesses acknowledged the significance of apprenticeships, internships, and externships in bolstering workforce development. The Chandler Chamber listened to the business community and created a new Workforce Hub which unveils the Chandler Chamber Community Foundation’s Workforce Readiness Internship Program. This program will allow businesses to host an intern and help students succeed in their future endeavors while businesses are simultaneously developing their talent pipeline. Terri Kimble, President & CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce said, “The Chamber recognizes the importance of preparing students for entering the workforce; the Chamber’s new programs aim to provide access to the diverse career opportunities available within Chandler. By bridging the gap between business and education, we aim to empower the next generation of leaders and innovators.” Robert Sinkule, 2024 Incoming Chair of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, said, “Business retention and expansion visits are a cornerstone of the Chamber’s advocacy and how we identify barriers for growth. Business, community and education leaders engage in roundtable conversations addressing workforce, education, and relevant public policy. These collaborative discussions empower leaders to come up with innovative solutions, fortifying Chandler’s thriving economic landscape.” The Chamber’s Workforce Hub will also be home to a new business portal. It will serve as a vital conduit, enabling both businesses and educational institutions to articulate their workforce, education, and community partnership objectives directly to the Chamber of Commerce. This centralized platform will facilitate seamless communication, ensuring that all stakeholders are interconnected and collaboratively aligned in pursuit of shared community goals. As we begin the new year we are excited for the road ahead. Together, with our community partners in business and education, we are poised to build an even more dynamic workforce for the future of Chandler. Meta Teams up with SRP and Ørsted to Support Data Center with Clean Energy
Meta announced its Mesa data center will soon be supported by new solar energy from Salt River Project (SRP) through a contract with a leading U.S. clean energy provider, Ørsted. Under the contract, Meta will receive the majority portion of the solar energy generated by Ørsted’s Eleven Mile Solar Center, a 300-MW solar farm and 300MW, four-hour battery energy storage system currently under construction in Pinal County, Arizona.
Celebrate the Print Big Sale It’s a super deal for businesses and a great way to kick off a successful 2024. Because the more you print, the more you’ll save! It’s so easy to take advantage of this offer. From now until February 10, purchase prints (like business cards, signs, flyers, brochures and more) and we’ll give you a discount of $20, $50 or $100 off depending on your order size. With savings like this you can get the word out to more customers and make your budget work harder.
Once online in 2024, this will be the largest solarplus-battery project on SRP’s power grid, and one of the largest battery energy storage systems built in a single phase in the U.S. The solar and stored energy not needed by the Meta data center will be available to SRP’s larger customer base. In addition to this newly announced project, Meta will also receive an allocation of 50 MW from the 100-MW West Line Solar Facility, which opened earlier this year in Eloy, AZ, and will soon receive a portion of solar energy from the 200-MW Brittlebush Solar Facility in Coolidge, AZ, which is expected to be online in 2024. These projects

will each further enable Meta to reach its 100% renewable energy and net zero goals. “SRP is pleased to partner with Meta to add more solar to help meet Meta’s renewable energy goals and SRP’s sustainability commitments,” said Bobby Olsen, Chief Planning, Strategy and Sustainability Executive at SRP. “As SRP focuses on responsibly decarbonizing our generation mix, we will need to more than double our power resource capacity by 2035. Strategic partnerships with customers like Meta and renewable energy developers like Ørsted help us get there.”

DE&I
Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee (DEIB Committee). You may be wondering, why? What does that have to do with the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and why should it matter to me as a business owner? The goal of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce DEIB Committee is to provide a series of vital educational training programs, workshops and discussions to better promote the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within Chandler businesses. Why does DEIB matter in business? Ensuring people feel included and like they belong is important to employees, customers and investors. · Employees: Research shows that companies that invest in DEIB leads to stronger retention, higher performance and overall satisfaction. (McKinsey & Company) · Customers: Public display of commitment to DEIB helps build a loyal customer base. Customer preference is growing for brands committed to and displaying DEIB. (Adobe) · Investors: More transparency on what businesses are doing with DEIB. With impacts on productivity and profitability, DEIB is on investor’s radar. (PwC) What does it even mean? DEIB in business is a commitment to implement strategies, policies, and processes that prioritize an organizational culture that helps all employees and customers feel welcome. · Diversity: Refers to who is represented in the workforce and typically includes but is not limited to attributes such as gender, age, ethnic background and abilities. (McKinsey & Company) · Equity: Gallup defines equity as fair treatment, access and advancement for each person in an organization · Inclusion: “how the workforce experiences the workplace and the degree to which organizations embrace all employees and enable them to make meaningful contributions”(McKinsey & Company) · Belonging: “Belonging is an accumulation of day-to-day experiences that enables a person to feel safe and bring their full, unique self to work” (Great Place to Work) All of these letters are like the ingredients of a recipe that will make your business and the people in them operate more smoothly. DEIB is critical to ensuring a strong business culture, and to quote the famous management consultant, Peter Drucker “Culture beats strategy for breakfast.”. So if you are a business owner tired of turnover, low productivity and employee culture challenges, consider evaluating how DEIB looks at your business and join us at one of our workshops or discussions.
