INSIDE THIS WEEK: MP set to hold public meeting on ‘green energy future’ for town A PUBLIC meeting will be held in Formby to discuss the town’s ‘green energy future.’ MP Bill Esterson, along with campaign group Merseyside Labour for a Green New Deal, will lay out the party's plans to deliver a net-zero carbon economy. The public meeting, open to all, will be held at Holy Trinity Church parish hall, on Rosemary Lane, from 8pm tomorrow (Thursday, October 10). Mr Esterson has been a consistent and vocal critic of fracking and recently voted in Parliament to declare a climate emergency in the UK. He said: “We need a complete change in our economy that delivers prosperity and revitalises communities which have seen living standards fall since heavy industry closed in the 1980s. “There are massive opportunities for economic success from investing in technology and skills in wind, solar and tidal energy; in low carbon buses, trains and cars; in energy efficient homes; and in sustainable farming. “We should be making the most of wind energy in Liverpool Bay and on the land and many more people could have solar panels. “Meanwhile, thousands of households would benefit from better insulation and reducing their energy bills, which would produce well paid work for many in the construction industry and there are great ideas for carbon capture and storage in farming and for planting more trees and other plants to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. “I also want to know what ideas my constituents have for tackling this massive issue which is why I invite residents to join me at this public meeting on October 10."

DISPOSAL ZONE ORDER TO TACKLE FIREWORK YOB GANGS AT SHOPS Police use special measure at weekend to deal with youths who had caused distress to store staff Report by Danielle Thompson A TEMPORARY ‘dispersal zone’ was imposed in Formby by police at the weekend to tackle gangs of yobs who had been throwing fireworks. Merseyside Police authorised the measure to be effective from 6pm on Sunday, October 6 until 1am on Monday, October 7, following reports of anti-social behaviour with throwing fireworks and making fires in the area. The area covered was bounded by Duke Street Park, Formby Outlined and encom- Chapel Lane was included in the dispersal zone passing: Chapel Lane, Brows Lane, Freshfield Road, Kings Road, Duke Street (Formby Train Sta- causing or likely to cause crime, nuisance or antition), Raven Meols Lane, Liverpool Road Back to the social behaviour to leave the area for up to 48 hours. junction (Roundabout) with Three Tuns Lane. Any breaches of officers powers to direct people they suspect are this can lead to their arrest.

Inspector Simon Rowland said: “This order is not about bothering people going about their legitimate daily business. “But we recognise the impact anti-social behaviour has on individuals and communities and we targeted people involved in this type of behaviour. “The dispersal zone gives us the powers we need to deal effectively with people and I would urge anyone in the area with any information on anti-social or criminal activity in their area to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” Formby MP Bill Esterson said: “I fully support our hard pressed police in keeping Formby safe. “There is no excuse for anti-social or criminal behaviour of the kind they are tacking with dispersal orders. “The police used similar orders to good effect in Maghull and I hope that this is successful in Formby as well. “We need to recruit the extra police we need but it will take time to recruit and train the extra police and more officers are leaving all the time through retirement, sadly including early retirement. “Dispersal orders are a start and the police have my full support.”
