Cake shop is served up with a special surprise at business awards night Report by Tom Martin CAKE shop staff from Waterloo have come up with a recipe for success after they were given a special gong at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards 2017. Caz’s Kitchen, on St John's Road, was shortlisted in both the Retailer of the Year and Community Impact Award categories when the ceremony was held last week at the Titanic Hotel, in Liverpool. But the independently run business, which was first opened by owner Caroline Hill in 2014, was actually given a Special Judges Award after impressing the panel. The category was actually created just so Caz’s Kitchen could receive the award, such was the popularity of the business. Caroline said: “We are truly and utterly stunned that they made up an award just for us! “A huge thank you again for all of your support and love for our little business we are beyond made up!” This year’s Merseyside Independent Business Awards, now in their fifth year and headline sponsored by Liverpool BID Company, attracted the highest-ever number of nominations and the awards ceremony itself sold out in advance.
