Chadwell Primary School Think Believe Aspire Dare

Newsletter Edition 10: 2016

It’s the end of November and as expected the weather has turned cold. What I like about November is the change of season; watching the leaves change colour and fall from the tree, the icy mornings and the clear blue skies. It has been a busy month and especially with the run up to the end of term, there are never enough hours in the day. I think the highlight this month was when the School Council attended City Hall for a tour. They were fortunate enough to have met the new mayor, Sadiq Khan, who insisted on having his photograph taken with the group. How lucky were they!! Some of our school community celebrated Diwali within the last month. Such occasions are always a good opportunity for families and friends to come together. We have also had quite a few dress down days this month that have all supported good causes. Thank you to everyone for supporting these causes. As part of our end of term preparations, our pupils have been rehearsing for their Christmas performances, the first of which are at the end of this week. These are quickly followed by the Christmas Fair and end of term parties, which we all enjoy. Thank you to those parents were have ensured that their child’s attendance has remained above 96% all term. There is a close correlation between excellent attendance and how well pupils go on to achieve at school. I would also like to thank all of those parents who have been taking the time to read with their child. Please continue to read with your child over the holidays so that they don’t fall out of the habit! Mr Walker

The last day of term is Friday 16th December at 1.30pm First day of the Spring term is Wednesday 4th January 2017 at 9.10am

Welcome back! We are all pleased to welcome back to school Mrs Daydy. Since September, class 1D have been taught by Mrs Jass who will continue to alongside Mrs Daydy between now and the end of term to ensure consistency and smooth transition of responsibilities. I am sure our Parents will welcome and support Mrs Daydy as much as the Chadwell staff who are delighted to welcome her back to school!

We are proud to support many different Charities and over the last month we have contributed to The Royal British Legion, Bullying UK and Stonewall Rainbow Laces! Thank you to everyone who to support the school in raising money for Charity and have contributed in raising the following amounts; The Royal British Legion = £235 Stonewall rainbow laces = £128 Wear blue for Bullying UK = £238

Our guide Richard showed us around the building and we were able to see the original medals and trophies from the 2012 London Olympic Games. We paid homage to Olympic heroes Usain Bolt and Mo Farah by having a photo posing in their famous celebratory poses the Mo Bot and the Lightning Bolt. Afterwards, whilst Richard was taking us to see the London Assembly Hall, we were extremely lucky to meet the Mayor Sadiq Khan who was busy being interviewed for television. Once he was finished his interview he stopped his busy schedule for a minute and asked if he could have a photo taken with us, we were so excited! As soon as we left the Assembly hall we walked down the beautiful glass spiral staircase where we had amazing views of the River Thames. It again was our lucky day as we saw a 62 Gun Salute outside the Tower of London to mark Prince Charles birthday! Finally, we had to make our way back to school, but not before posing again for some last photos outside some famous London landmarks. We had such an amazing day!

School Council trip to City Hall

This term school council visited City Hall to learn about the Greater London Authority, the Mayors job and the history of London.

Cashless School As you are aware as of January 2017 we will begin a phased introduction of payments to be made electronically through The school have participated in vigorous research demonstrations and meetings with various providers before making a decision to partner with a well-established, parent friendly platform that we are confident will support both the schools and our Parent’s needs. As many of our Parents are aware, since April 2016 ISS our school lunch providers no longer accept cash as a tender and the move to cashless has worked very successfully in this instance. Transitioning all school payments for Trips, Clubs, Music Tuition and Voluntary Contributions is a natural conversion not only for our school but many others too.

When do we begin taking payments online? From January 2017 all payments and authorisation for school enrichment clubs and music tuition will need to be made online.

From February 2017 all payments and authorisation for school trips will need to be made online. From April 2017 ALL payments and authorisation will need to be made online. Paying online electronically is designed to provide an easier, secure and faster way to pay and track payments made for Trips, Clubs, Music Tuition and Voluntary Contributions. The link to access ‘School Money’ will be available on our website and in order to start using the service it is important that you provide the school with your most up-todate contact information so that we can begin the set-up process.

Important information! From April 2017 all Uniform Sales with the school’s official uniform supplier Brigade will need to be placed online. The school office will continue to sell uniform until the end of March. You will receive a letter on Thursday 1st December with more details.
