T

here exists a concerted campaign to delegitimise Israel and there are many fronts upon which it is being perpetrated. Take for example heritage. UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) have recently ruled that Israel has no right to add to the National Heritage list the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, where almost all of Israel’s patriarchs and matriarchs are buried. What is more UNESCO has permitted the tomb of Rachel, Israel’s other matriarch, to be re-labelled as an Islamic mosque, and to demand that Israel remove this site from its National Heritage list. This is symptomatic of ongoing efforts to erase Jewish history and supersede Jewish religious sites with Islamic institutions. Sadly it is a representative body of the ‘Nations’ that is perpetrating this outcome. One may well ask the question as did the Psalmist ‘Why do the nations conspire?’ (Psalm 2:1a). A brief report on BBC Radio 4 Today programme illustrates how a relatively isolated situation is manoeuvred to fit a wider agenda. The olive grove harvest for Arabs living in an area under Palestinian Authority control appears to have suffered from vandalism and also the effects of an environmental incident. The issue is reported in such a way as to effectively delegitimise the Bible by pitting it against International Law. Clearly it is important for those who interpret the Bible to make sure that they correctly handle the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15b), but it is worth noticing where the ‘nations’ feature once more, this time in the term ‘inter…‘Nation’…al’ law. There is also a parallel campaign to delegitimise Christian Zionism through utilising a spurious mixture of theological and social justice standpoints. A documentary entitled ‘With God on Our Side’ is having various showings throughout the UK. It claims to look at the theology of Christian Zionism, which it describes as teaching that because Jews are God’s chosen people they have a divine right to the land of Israel. It purports to ask the question as to whether there is a Biblical alternative for Christians who love and support the people of Israel that does not favour one people over another but instead promotes peace and reconciliation for both Jews and Palestinians. Unfortunately the nice sounding words on the cover translate to a whole serious of inaccuracies, halftruths, imbalance and insinuation* focusing particularly on the Dispensationalist view rather than the traditional UK evangelical position. Added to this is the Bible Lands’ article with photograhs in Autumn 2010 New Wine magazine and the recent Methodist Conference report debacle, amongst many others, which show similar characteristics.

As this edition of In Touch illustrates, our office, Area Reps and Advocates are very much engaged in addressing these issues with the objective of re-dressing the balance. This is important work for us to do as representing Christian Friends of Israel both in the political arena and amongst our fellow Christians, thereby expressing our friendship toward Israel and the Jewish community. We appreciate your ongoing support as we continue in this two-fold engagement.

CFI Reps...On The Front Line I

n January 2008, David Soakell was asked by CFI-UK Head Office to take on the role of Church Liaison Officer in the new Directorship re-structure of the ministry. This role involves the care of established Area Representatives and the recruiting of new CFI-UK Reps. We are really thrilled at just how the Lord is blessing CFI with new Reps, along with the encouragement it brings to our established team around the country. On the 3rd and 4th November, 2010, most of our Area Reps were able to come together for a great time of teaching, equipping and encouraging at a residential conference. This was held near Thetford at Letton Hall, a Christian Conference Centre, situated in a Grade II Listed country house in the heart of rural Norfolk. Set in 10 beautiful acres with excellent facilities (to find out more go to http://www. lettonhall.org) it is also at Letton Hall that our Norwich/Thetford CFI Area Reps, Bill and Val Crudgington are based. They were willing to bless CFIUK with the use of this place for the conference...and what a blessing they were to all of us as we gathered there. Our Area Reps travelled from many areas: as far afield as Inverness, Belfast, Sussex, North Wales and Birmingham. It was great to fellowship with long-standing friends and co-workers, along with welcoming on board the very latest recruits, David and Lynne Brown from Cardiff. After an informal meal, David welcomed everyone and introduced the representatives. He then introduced the CFI-UK Director Jacob Vince and CFI Trustee Chairman Bob Hobbs. The idea of us all meeting together was to share ideas and difficulties, and to get to know each other better. David covered some of the basics, as some of the representatives had been with CFI from the beginning and others were very new. He and Julia had started out as representatives for the North East and still undertake that role as well, so they understand what is involved. He showed a PowerPoint® presentation and explained the areas of responsibility for a representative such as “seeking opportunities”, “tours and conferences” and “being a local resource centre”, as well as a variety of other possibilities. The feedback from the conference has been very encouraging, and we certainly hope to repeat this again in future years. However, just a glance at where our Area Reps are will show you where we are still very much in need of new people to come on board. So far, we have Representatives in North Wales, South Wales, Monmouth, Weston Supermare, Dorset, Devon, West Sussex, Essex, Great Yarmouth and South Norfolk, Thetford and Norwich area, Birmingham, Stoke, Lincolnshire, Manchester, The Wirral, Dewsbury, The North East, Edinburgh, Perth, Inverness, and Bangor/Belfast. So, as you can see, we are still need more Reps...in Scotland, Cumbria, Northumbria, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Derbyshire, Leicester, Coventry, Oxford, Ipswich, London, and Southampton to name but just a few. So, if you feel the Lord is calling you to this important role, then do get in touch with David Soakell (CFI-UK Church Liaison Officer) at david@cfi.org.uk or via the Eastbourne office. Editor’s note: Both Jacob (in his editorial) and David in his report above mentioned the ongoing issue of Replacement Theology. Eliyahu Ben-Haim, of Intercessors for Israel, has written an excellent booklet as a rebuttal of the anti-Zionist DVD “With God On Our Side”. CFI-UK has ordered stock of this from IFIJ and by the time you receive this edition of In Touch pricing details will be known and included on the enclosed Response Form. We commend this publication to you for your consideration.

Standing with Israel! F

or many, if not all of us, the ever-increasing attempts to delegitimise the very existence of the State of Israel have long-since moved beyond the rumblings – and at times, rantings – of what was once a very vocal minority. Now it is a full-blown campaign that has insidiously infiltrated into almost every area of our national life: from what we can or cannot buy in our supermarkets, through the campuses of our universities, and on into the corridors of power at both national and local levels. This is nothing less than anti-Semitism, but by another name...antiZionism or anti-Israelism – you can choose. Saddest of all is to see that much of the Church, across all denominational lines and new church groupings throughout these islands, like the proverbial lemmings, have fallen into line with our increasingly secular and humanistic society, taking every opportunity to bash Israel verbally, while at the same time supporting those who openly want to see the destruction of the only democracy in the Middle East...and the Jewish people along with it. Against this backdrop, the time is approaching for CFIUK’s annual Joint Lobby of Parliament, undertaken in cooperation with our good friends at the Zionist Federation. This is THE event in the year where the Jewish community most appreciates the support of Christians from all over the UK. It is difficult to quantify the impact that is made when anywhere between 150 to 250 people descend on Westminster and ask to speak with their MPs on specific issues related to the current situation in the Middle East and the concerns of the Jewish community here in the UK. But be assured, the effort does make an impact. If they arrive in time for this mailing, you will have received a colour A5 flyer advertising the 2011 Lobby (similar to the one reproduced on this page). If not, then it will follow at the end of December. But we wanted you to know about this now, and to ask you to prayerfully consider joining us as we meet with our MPs at Westminster on the afternoon of January 26th. If you would like more information, please contact Robin or Jacob at CFI, using the usual contact details as printed on Page 2 of this magazine, or you can email us at: lobby2011@cfi.org.uk For obvious security reasons we will only be able to disclose full details of the day’s programme to those who are already part of CFI-UK’s network of Advocates, or to those who are definitely committed to supporting this initiative. As with our network of Area Reps, we are always eager to have more Advocates commit to this aspect of CFI-UK’s work. So if you would like to know more about what is involved, please use the same email address to request further information. If you are not able to join us on January 26th, then please cover this day and all the preparations beforehand in prayer. This is most definitely an opportunity to take the light of God into some of the darkest places in this nation...and the enemy does not like it. So intercessory prayer coverage is as much a necessity as coming to London or meeting your MP at his or her local office. Whatever you decide to do, this is another opportunity to stand with Israel and the Jewish people in a very practical way.

And No Regrets Below are extracts from a recent, stirring speech given by Canadian Prime Minister, Hon. Stephen Harper.

C

anadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, spoke up for the nation of Israel at a recent international conference in Ottawa, Canada. He stated, “Two weeks ago I visited Ukraine for the first time. In Kiev I laid a wreath at Babi Yar, the site of one of the numerous atrocities of the Holocaust. I was left there with much the same impression as I had in Auschwitz in 2008: that such horrors defy all comprehension. At the killing grounds of Babi Yar, I knew I was standing in a place where evil, evil at its most cruel, obscene, and grotesque had been unleashed. But while evil of this magnitude may be unfathomable, it is nonetheless a fact. It is a fact of history. And it is a fact of our nature that humans can choose to be inhuman. This is the paradox of freedom. That awesome power, that grave responsibility to choose between good and evil.” Prime Minister Harper continued, “Let us not forget that even in the darkest hours of the Holocaust, men were free to choose good. And some did. That is the eternal witness of the Righteous Among the Nations. And let us not forget that even now, there are those who would choose evil and would launch another Holocaust, if left unchecked. That is the challenge before us today. Those who threaten the Jewish people are a threat to all of us. The horror of the Holocaust is unique, but it is just one chapter in the long and unbroken history of anti-Semitism. Yet, in contemporary debates that influence the fate of the Jewish homeland, unfortunately, there are those who reject the language of good and evil. They say that the situation is not black and white, that we must not choose sides. In response to this resurgence of moral ambivalence on these issues, we must speak clearly. Remembering the Holocaust is not merely an act of historical recognition. It must also be an understanding and an undertaking. An understanding that the same threats exist today. And an undertaking of a solemn responsibility to fight those threats.” Stephen Harper then went on to say that Jews in many parts of the world today and many different settings are increasingly subjected to vandalism, threats, slurs, and just plain, old-fashioned lies. He also stated that one ruthless champion of that ideology brazenly threatens to “wipe Israel off the map”, and time and again flouts the obligations that his country has taken under international treaties. He stated, “We have seen all this before. And we have no excuse to be complacent. In fact we have a duty to take action. And for all of us, that starts at home. In Canada, we have taken a number of steps to assess and combat antiSemitism in our own country… For the first time, we are dealing with Canada’s own record of officially sanctioned anti-Semitism. We have created a fund for education about our country’s deliberate rejection of Jewish refugees before and during the Second World War. But of course we must also combat anti-Semitism beyond our borders, an evolving, global phenomenon. And we must recognise, that while its substance is as crude as ever, its method is now more sophisticated.” And speaking up for the Nation of Israel, Prime Minister Stephen Harper declared, “Harnessing disparate anti-Semitic, antiAmerican, and anti-Western ideologies, it [anti-Semitism] targets the Jewish people by targeting the Jewish homeland, Israel, as the source of injustice and conflict in the world, and uses, perversely, the language of human rights to do so. And I know, by the way, because I have the bruises to show for it, that whether it is at the United Nations, or any other international forum, the easy thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric, to pretend it is just being even-handed, and to excuse oneself with the label of “honest broker”. There are, after all, a lot more votes, a lot more, in being anti-Israeli than in taking a stand. But, as long as I am Prime Minister, whether it is at the UN or the Francophonie or anywhere else, Canada will take that stand, whatever the cost. And friends, I say this not just because it is the right thing to do, but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tells us all too well if we listen to it, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are a threat to all of us. Our work together is a sign of hope, just as the existence and persistence of the Jewish homeland is a sign of hope. And it is here that history serves not to warn but to inspire. As I said on the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel, Israel appeared as a light, in a world emerging from deep darkness. Against all odds, that light has not been extinguished. It burns bright, upheld by the universal principles of all civilised nations, freedom, democracy and justice. By working together more closely in the family of civilised nations, we affirm and strengthen those principles. And we declare our faith in humanity’s future in the power of good over evil.” As David Soakell, our Church Liaison Officer, said in his latest “Watching Over Zion” weekly prayer report after including the above extracted quotes from Stephen Harper’s full speech: “Amen and Amen! Let us pray for Prime Minister Stephen Harper: that his message will be heard by Obama, and Cameron, and other world leaders who need to hear this and act accordingly.”

O

f all the monumental architectural masterpieces built by Herod the Great during his threedecade reign as King of Israel, none is more awe inspiring than the majestic palatial resort-fortress he constructed on the edge of the Judean wilderness and named after himself: Herodium.

Poised atop a man-made mountain nearly twentyfive hundred feet high, Herodium afforded the King a panoramic view of his domain, including Jerusalem eight miles to the north. A ruthless ruler who gained power through political intrigue and marriage into the Hasmonean family, Herod was a master builder but a deeply troubled monarch. His rage and paranoia knew no bounds – even to the slaying of his own children and a beloved wife. His edifice complex was equally unchecked. Herod’s most famous project was the extensive expansion of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In addition to the harbour at Caesarea and the “hanging palace” at Masada, he built multiple fortresses. But Herodium held an honoured place in his heart. Not only was it a brilliantly designed fortress but the largest palatial complex in the Roman world at the time. Every conceivable luxury was incorporated into its design, including swimming pools, baths, gardens and a seven-hundred seat theatre. It also was the place Herod chose to be buried. Only recently have archaeologists discovered the elaborate two-story domed mausoleum that served as his final resting place – midway up the northern face of Herodium. Even the ornate sarcophagus that once held the King’s remains was found among the shattered remnants of his distant kingdom.

Nearby Herodium lay a small Jewish village named Beit Lechem (House of Bread in Hebrew). Only three miles away in distance, Bethlehem was a world removed from Herod’s opulence and grandeur. Populated

from the desk of

Dr. Dwight Pryor by the lowest strata of Roman society, shepherds, and other common folks, no more than 200-300 people likely lived in the lowly rural community at the time. Herod died and was entombed at Herodium in 4 BC. Probably two years earlier, perhaps in the springtime when shepherds remained in the fields lambing their sheep, an uncommon child was born in Bethlehem to devout Jewish parents. They had taken refuge in a borrowed stable – likely a cave beneath a home, where the animals were kept – and placed their son in a feeding trough. Though he was truly of royal descent, his arrival was attended by livestock and shepherds. Not costly incense but the pungent smells of a stable would have filled the room. Looking southeast from their primitive quarters, Jesus’ parents would have seen the monumental Herodium towering in the distance. What a contrast! One, a monument to self-exaltation; the other, a testament to the self-condescension of a loving God who, in accord with His word, sent His son to remedy the fractured human condition inherited from Adam. Though Jesus was “the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of His nature” (Hebrews 1:3), he did not aggrandise himself by his high-standing with God, but humbled himself and took on the role of a servant (Philippians 2:8) – first to the Jewish people, “on behalf of God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises given to the Patriarchs,” but also to the Gentiles, that they “might glorify God for his mercy” (Romans 15:8-9). Herod designated himself, “the Great,” and lorded it over fearful people. Jesus declared, “I am gentle and humble in heart; learn of me and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). Herod’s kingdom was built of might and power, and he raised up monuments to himself. Jesus proclaimed God’s kingship, propelled by the Holy Spirit, and he spent his life raising up many disciples. Bethlehem’s child embodied fully the character of the God of Abraham – a God though high and exalted, “he hath respect for the lowly” (Psalm 138:6, KJV). The Spirit of the true and living God, like water, always seeks out the low places. He is a “coming-down” God, passionate in pursuit of a people to bear His name and partner with Him in His redemptive agenda for the earth. So when this God sent His Anointed One with good news for the humble (Isaiah 61:1), it was not to Herodium but to Bethlehem that he came. The contrast could not be sharper. In the words of the biographer Matthew: “Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king…” (Matthew 2:1).

Not Once - But Twice! T

he images on the opposite page attempt to capture some sense of what CFI-UK’s 25th Anniversary Celebration was like this year, as friends and supporters met together at Victoria Baptist Church, Eastbourne on the weekend of October 15th and 16th.

There was a real feast from the Word of God brought through Lance Lambert (pictured top-left) and Dr. John Garr (pictured top-right). Former CFI-UK Director, Roy Thurley (pictured upper middle right) brought an eye-opening historical presentation on Israel’s legal right to reside in the Land, while Church Liaison Officer, David Soakell (pictured lower middle right) updated everyone of the valuable work done by CFI’s network of Area Representatives. In another part of the building Chip Kendall and CFI’s Sam Hailes (pictured lower right) led a seminar on CFI’s young adults ministry, Isrelate.com. At one point in the afternoon representatives from several pro-Israel ministries gathered on the platform (pictured upper middle left), and under the leadership of the Chairman of Love Never Fails, Rufus Barnes, prayed for the Lord’s continued blessing on the work and ministry of CFI-UK, under the leadership of Director, Jacob Vince (pictured lower middle left). Many agreed that this was one of the best CFI-UK Annual Celebrations ever, and both audio CD and video DVD recordings of the four main teaching sessions (two each by Lance Lambert and Dr. John Garr), plus Roy Thurley’s lunchtime seminar, are now available. Please see the separate enclosed information flyer for more details. You can order these either online at the www.cfi.org.uk/shop, or using the Response Form enclosed with this copy of In Touch. The following weekend the venue moved to the Belsey Bridge Conference Centre, near Bungay in Suffolk. This time a group of about 30 guests, including a few day visitors, were well-fed in every sense of the word. Dr. John Garr and his wife Pat, after a week of travelling in Scotland – including going all the way to Skye for a meeting – brought us seven

challenging teaching sessions on the overall theme of Kingdom Living: Learning To Walk With God. Details on how to order the audio CD and video DVD versions of these are also on the enclosed flyer.

lae WnM'[i Imanu El These two Hebrew words (pronounced “ee-mah-noo ale”)— occurring just twice in combination in the Hebrew Scriptures (and quoted once in the Greek New Testament)—convey one of the most profound messages ever given to mankind: ‘God is with us’. Many humans conceive God merely as Creator and Judge, too powerful and wrathful to be known intimately; some have a vague notion that He may be compassionate and merciful, but have not experienced this for themselves; sadly, only a relatively tiny minority ever truly know Him as Imanu El—‘God with us’. (Note that in Hebrew the verb ‘to be’ is not explicitly used in the present tense but can be implied from the context: hence, lae WnM'[i Imanu El can be translated legitimately either as ‘God is with us’ or simply ‘God with us’). The Jews had certainly encountered God’s presence. Indeed, He specifically assured the following Biblical characters, “I am with you” or “I will be with you”: Yitschaq/Isaac (Genesis 26:3,24), Ya‘aqov/Jacob (Genesis 28:15, 31:3), Mosheh/Moses (Exodus 3:12), Yehoshua/Joshua (Deuteronomy 31:23, Joshua 1:5, 3:7), Gid’on/Gideon ( Judges 6:16), Yarov‘am/Jeroboam (I Kings 11:38), and Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah ( Jeremiah 1:8,19, 15:20). And the same words comforted the whole nation of Yisra’el (Isaiah 41:8-10; 43:2,5; Jeremiah 30:11, 42:11, 46:28; Haggai 1:13, 2:4). The Jews adopted a term to denote the special presence of God: hn'ykiv. Shekhinah (commonly Anglicised as ‘Shekinah’). Coming from the root !k;v' shakhan ‘to settle down, abide, dwell, inhabit’, the word shekhinah—‘settling, abiding, dwelling, inhabiting’—refers to the special, abiding presence of God’s glory dwelling in the midst of His people. Whilst the actual word shekhinah is not found in the Bible, the root !kv sh-kh-n is, and the concept of the Shekhinah is very much a part of Judaism. In Rabbinic teaching the Shekhinah is said to be manifest when God sanctifies something or someone; it is a revelation of the holy in the midst of the profane. Shekhinah is closely associated with the Tabernacle and Temple. For instance, we read that “Mosheh was unable to enter the tent of meeting, because the cloud remained (!k;v' shakhan) on it, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle” (Exodus 40:35). A rare designation for the Temple is hn'ykiV.h; tyBe Bet ha-Shekhinah, literally ‘House of the Abiding’, ie the place of God’s glorious presence. The Talmud states that where ten are gathered for prayer, or even one sits and learns Torah, there the Shekhinah is (Berakhot 6a); which bears a striking resemblance to what Yeshua taught about His being specially present when two or three come together in His name (Matthew 18:20). The Talmud further teaches that the Shekhinah watches over the sick (Shabbat 12b); the traditional Jewish home aspired to the saying, “Where there is peace and harmony between husband and wife the Shekhinah dwells between them” (Sotah

17a); and a righteous judge is said to cause the Shekhinah to rest on Yisra’el, whereas an unrighteous one drives it away (Sanhedrin 7a). All of which serves to illustrate the centrality and importance in Jewish thinking of the special presence of God among His people. Notwithstanding all this, it would still have been astonishing to conceive of the Shekhinah being embodied in human form. Yes, God had appeared powerfully to the great patriarchs, and angels had conversed with men on a number of occasions. And on a superficial level, the prophetic sign conveyed by Yesha‘yahu (Isaiah) to the king of Yehudah ( Judah) of a child named Imanu El (Isaiah 7:14) might simply be taken as encouragement for King Achaz (Ahaz) and his people, that God would be with them to deliver them. But Yesha‘yahu was speaking under the influence of the Spirit, not only about his present circumstances but predicting a future Messianic event of unprecedented proportions (see I Peter 1:10-12). This child was not simply going to be called Imanu El in the sense of a mere label; rather He was going to be Imanu El—‘God with us’. (Note that the Hebrew term for ‘name’, ~ve shem, also embraces ‘character’ and ‘reputation’.) The incarnation is the greatest event ever to have happened on earth. The One Who had existed with God since the beginning of the world and, in fact, was God, and through Whom all things had been created, “became flesh/human and dwelt/lived among us; and we have seen His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” ( John 1:1-3,14). Significantly, the Complete Jewish Bible here (v.14) twice substitutes ‘Sh’khinah’ for ‘glory’, translator David Stern having appreciated from a Jewish perspective the awesome significance of Yeshua’s appearing. Furthermore, the writer of Hebrews declares that “He [the Son] is the brightness of His [God’s] glory (CJB: ‘the radiance of the Sh’khinah’) and the exact representation of His being/nature.” (Hebrews 1:3) The beginning of John’s Gospel speaks of Messiah not only as “The Word”, but also as “The Light”. It is noteworthy that light is an image which is often associated with the Shekhinah. Thus, on the verse, “…the earth shone with His glory” (Ezekiel 43:2b), the Rabbis remark, “This is the face of the Shekhinah” (Avot de-Rabbi Nathan, version 1, 13a). Furthermore, both the angels in heaven and the righteous in the world to come are said to be sustained by the radiance of the Shekhinah. (Exodus Rabbah 32:4; Berakhot 17a; cf Exodus 34:29–35 and Revelation 22:5). We know that “God does not show favouritism” (Romans 2:11, etc.) and it is said of the One called Imanu El that He “is the same yesterday, today and for ever” (Hebrew 13:8). So, the Shekhinah—the special, glorious presence of God—may potentially be manifested amongst any gathering of Believers at any given time. This is what Christians commonly call ‘revival’. Revival comes to those who humble themselves before God and seek Him earnestly and wholeheartedly. So in prayer and in deed, let us echo the words which conclude the wonderful Christmas carol, ‘O Little Town’: “O, come to us, abide with us, John C.P. Smith our Lord Emmanuel”.

“And remember! I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) 10 Y December 2010 Y Christian Friends of Israel In Touch 165

South Wales Gets In Touch C

hristian Friends of Israel warmly welcome on board David and Lynne Brown, our new CFI-UK Area Representatives for the Cardiff/Swansea area of South Wales. David and Lynne were brought up in the Church of England, however became involved with the Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1988, and having spent about 10 years trying to resist, they became fully involved in 1997. David writes, “Following this, fully expecting the threatened Armageddon at any moment, Lynne and I submerged ourselves fully into what we now realise is a cult. Numerous disasters befell us as Witnesses. Our son was nearly allowed to bleed to death, however I stepped in to take control of that, and this brought Lynne’s interest in the JW’s to an end. I however struggled on for about 4 years, but numerous confrontations in which I was labelled an “independent thinker” for reading passages of the Bible that throw doubt on the JW dogma, caused me to leave too.” David continues, “Then followed the most agonising period of our lives, with the shunning of Jehovah Witness’ and other reprisals we were suffering for leaving, it seemed that we would be driven back in to the ‘Watchtower’.” However, at this point, it would appear The LORD God of Israel truly stepped in. David Brown continues, “Robin Benson of CFI appeared on Revelation TV’s programme ‘Simply the Truth’ with Doug Harris, explaining the Passover and the interesting thing was the fact there were four Cups not one. Anyway, I contacted CFI for more information and a CFI Bookmark was sent to me containing all the scriptures relevant to Israel. Lynne and I couldn’t believe what we were reading, we had never thought about this as the Watchtower convinced us that they were the New Israel. In one quick swoop the iron grip of the Watchtower was broken, they were not the power we thought they were, and no matter what they said they were, they were not God’s exclusive channel on Earth today. All the terror, sleepless nights, and black depression of cult life were gone.” Today, David and Lynne walk in true Shalom (Peace) and Grace, with no fear or failure, only the opportunity to serve their loving Lord. However, the Lord has also opened up many doors for this couple to serve the work of CFI and to bless the people of Israel. Barely a week had passed after they had accepted the position as Area Reps for CFI before they were on the CFI Area Reps residential conference. And on returning from the conference, David and Lynne went back with guns blazing and straight into action. David Brown writes, “Well where do we start? Firstly our meeting with Bridges ( for Peace) was an outstanding success and we have arranged to work together with the Bridges team where we can. Next, two prayer groups were formed today, one at Elim City Temple, Swansea, which will be meeting Thursday evenings, another at Maesteg was reactivated, and a house prayer group is going to meet at Blackmill near Bridgend. We linked up with and arranged to help numerous supporters of CFI, so this place is on fire for this cause. And we have invites to 4 more events in the next few weeks.” You can contact David and Lynne Brown by Tel: 02920 761882 or email David at: harmony50@hotmail.co.uk Please do pray for our new Reps, indeed, we would ask for your continued prayers for all our Reps throughout the UK.

Have you ever wanted to do a thorough study on the Letter to the Hebrews? Let us invite you to consider taking out a subscription

to Dwight Pryor’s monthly ‘Haverim’ recordings and newsletter. Part 6 of this excellent study is released on Audio CD in November, and you can backdate your subscription to receive all of these, and then continue as each is released in the months ahead. You can subscribe online at the CFI-UK website, or call the Eastbourne office and request an subscription form. You will not regret it.

CFI-UK NEWS For your diary... As 2010 heads to its conclusion, initial planning is underway for CFI-UK’s activities in 2011. We thought you might like to have advance notice of the dates that are already fixed in the diary, so that you can mark these in yours or on your 2011 calendar. As the next year unfolds, fuller details will either be included in another In Touch magazine, or via an enclosed information leaflet or booking form where necessary. So for 2011, God willing, please note the following dates: 1. CFI-UK and Zionist Federation Joint Lobby of Parliament: January 26th – further details on Page 4 of this In Touch. 2. CFI-UK, Irish CFI, and ZF joint event: February 10th – Dublin – further details as soon as available. 3. CFI-UK, Northen Ireland FI, and ZF joint event: February 22nd – Belfast – further details as soon as available. 4. CFI-UK Prayer Conference: April 4th to 6th – Rockwell Green, Somerset – details in the coming months. 5. CFI-UK Annual Conference: October 14th to 15th – Victoria Baptist Church, Eastbourne – details in coming months. 6. CFI-UK national speaking tour with David Dolan as guest speaker: October 2011 – details in coming months. There are other items in the pipeline, including one or two possible tours in Israel. Details of all of these will be published as soon as they have been finalised.

CHANGES TO ‘IN TOUCH’ This edition of In Touch is the last to be published on a bimonthly basis. From 2011 the magazine will be issued on a quarterly basis, with editions available at the end of January, April, July and October for the foreseeable future. We will continue to offer the same varied content including Bible teaching, updates on CFI activities, and comment on current events connected with Israel and the Jewish people. We trust that the magazine will continue to be a blessing to all our readers and thank you for your ongoing interest and support.

What is your church or small group studying in 2011? If you have already used CFI-UK’s “Kesher Course”, then why not consider our follow-up: “Text And Context”. This excellent 14-part series is now out on DVD. Each set comes with a copy of the Student Guide, with further copies available from CFI at discounts similar to those for the Kesher Guides. We also offer an installment purchase plan.

On the other hand, if you or your church group are looking for a good introduction to understanding the Hebraic roots of our faith, and the place of Israel in God’s purposes today, then please consider investing in a Kesher Course.

14-DVD Set ~ £75.00 (incl. UK p&p)

Please note: both sets are only available in UK PAL format

Each 10-DVD set comes with a Leader’s and Student Guide. Further copies of the Student Guide can be bought separately, with a discount on multiples of 5 copies or more. CFI also offers an installment payment plan – details available upon request. 10-DVD Set ~ £60.00 (incl. UK p&p)
