Warm greetings from all of us at the Community Foundation! We hope this season brings you peace, joy and comfort as you spend time with loved ones.
We thank you for your continued support of CFES, and hope you had an opportunity to join us in celebration of FY2019 at our recent Annual Meeting in November. Once again, our friends at PAC14 recorded the event and it is available for viewing online, along with our most recent Annual Report. As we start the new year, we welcome new board members Ed Barber, Dean Lewis and David Mitchell. Volunteers are the foundation of a successful organization and we are grateful for these new members. In January, we will also welcome Veronique Diriker to the Foundation as our new Chief Strategy Officer. While we spent much of the past year celebrating what has been accomplished in the past 35 years, it’s what lies ahead that continues to excite and inspire us. CFES works with hundreds of local charitable organizations throughout the Lower Shore, and we recognize that the needs of our community are great. We encourage you to find those causes that mean the most to you and commit to making a difference in 2020, not just during the holidays, but year round. Your time, talents, and generosity are invaluable to making our community great. We appreciate those who become Friends of the Foundation by contributing to our Annual Appeal as your support enables us to impact this community in so many ways. The Community Foundation is a willing and able partner to assist you in maximizing your charitable giving throughout the year. Join us in welcoming our new staff & Board of Directors members! Dr. Veronique Diriker Dr. Veronique Diriker will join the Foundation in January 2020 as the Chief Strategy Officer. Veronique will lead the Foundation’s strategic planning and implementation with a focus on its continued growth, impact and effectiveness. Her professional experience includes nonprofit management & leadership, university development, nonprofit fundraising, public policy analysis & consulting, event planning, program development, higher education teaching, outcomes assessment & program evaluation, and community outreach. Salisbury became home to Veronique more than 30 years ago when she and her husband, Memo, relocated from Boston. She is a long time donor, friend and supporter of the Foundation, enjoys spending time with her beloved dog Seamus and using her love of art as a strategy for building the Arts & Abilities Fund she and Memo created at CFES.
Dean Lewis Dean Lewis is the CFO & Treasurer of Calvin B. Taylor Bank. Dean is a CPA and holds a master’s degree in taxation. Dean currently serves on the Board of Taylor Bank and the Atlantic General Hospital Foundation. He is also a member of the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees of Atlantic General Hospital, Franklin P. Perdue School of Business Career Advisory Board at Salisbury University and the Investment Committee of CFES. Dean resides in Berlin with his wife Michelle and three children.
Ed Barber Ed Barber retired in 2011 as Assistant Superintendent for Administration of Worcester County Public Schools. Ed has 37 years experience in education, starting as a school psychologist and then school principal and supervisor in Somerset county. Ed resides in Snow Hill with his wife Diana and has one son.

David Mitchell Judge David Mitchell retired as an Associate Judge of Baltimore City Circuit Court. He was appointed to Maryland’s Eighth Judicial Circuit in 1984 and served until his retirement in 2001. David has served on the board of directors of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and The Peddie School. He has served as Chairman of the Committee on Constitution and Canons for the Episcopal Diocese of Easton. David resides in Hebron with his wife Diane. They have three children and five grandchildren.

Annual Meeting Thank You Sponsors
The 35th Annual Meeting and Award Luncheon took place November 1, 2019, at the Fountains Wedding & Conference Center in Salisbury, MD. More than 325 people were in attendance to celebrate the Foundationâ€™s yearly accomplishments. In FY 2019 the Foundation awarded over $600,000 in scholarships and a record breaking $6.4 million in grants.
The Nonprofit Award of Excellence honoring Richard A. Henson was awarded to Chesapeake Housing Mission. With 1,449 volunteers in all, CHM has helped over 450 clients in its first 10 years.
The Frank H. Morris Humanitarian Award was awarded to Pam & Macky Stansell for their exemplary leadership, vision, compassion, and dedication to community and philanthropy.
The Mary Gladys Jones Volunteer of the Year Award was awarded to Mr. Ace Parker for his many years of dedicated service to others.
The Chairmanâ€™s Award was presented to John Allen for his dedication to CFES and his numerous philanthropic efforts.
