Welcome to SIITME

The International Symposium for Design and Technology in Electronic Packaging (SIITME) is a premier Central European event in the field of electronics industry, being from 1995 a scientific forum for exchanging information between academia and industry from Central and Eastern Europe on the topics related to their experimental and theoretical work in the field of electronics and micro-systems, manufacturing technologies and advanced packaging. The symposium combines the oral and poster presentations in an attractive configuration, as well as individual meetings between professors, students, senior and young scientists who can discuss scientific and educational issues and organize future national and international cooperation. It is our pleasure to encourage you to participate in SIITME 2010, organized by The University of Pitesti and Politehnica University of Bucharest, a top class, four day long scientific event.

Keynote speakers

Keynote speaker: Prof. Dr. Ing. Karlheinz Bock University of Berlin (TU Berlin), Fraunhofer Research Institution for Modular Solid State Technologies EMFT Presentation: “OLAE (Organic Large Area Electronics) and Hetero-System Integration� Professor Dr.-Ing. Karlheinz Bock is professor at the University of Berlin (TU Berlin), Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, head of the Technologies of Microperipherics, Chair of Polytronic Microsystems. He is a Member of Board of Acting Directors of Fraunhofer IZM (kommissarische Leitung des IZM). He is the Acting Director of Fraunhofer EMFT, and Department Head of Polytronic and multi-functional Systems at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Modular Solid State Technologies EMFT, former Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) Munich. The focus in Munich, under Acting Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karlheinz Bock, will be on so-called multifunctional on-top technologies (MOTT) and on board-level polytronics. To ensure the highest possible flexibility, the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft has decided to continue the research topics in Munich within an independent institute. The Fraunhofer Institute for Modular Solid State Technology (EMFT) in Munich opened officially on July 1st, 2010 and will merge polytronic and biosystem integration research with research on silicon and MEMS technologies. This move is expected to produce significant research and development synergies and advance multifunctional system development.

Keynote speaker: Dr. Philippe Morey-Chaisemartin Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, CIME Nanotech Presentation: “Teaching microsystems in a moving industry environment� Philippe Morey got his Ph.D. in microelectronics in 1986 at the University of Grenoble (France). He spent 12 years at STMicroelectronics in various positions (design engineer, mask data preparation manager, video processor design leader and others). He, together with two colleagues, set up a company specialized in software development for silicon chip production optimization and is still chief technical officer of this company. He is currently Associated Professor at Grenoble INP engineering school, being responsible for vocational training in microelectronics and manage European projects for CIME (Centre Interuniversitaire de MicroElectronique).

e-Training Thursday, September 23 First part - 14:00 - 17:15 Second part - 17:45 - 20:00 TITLE:  “E-Training Microsystems Technologies“ OPEN DEMONSTRATION WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS: Professors and scientists from the “E-Training Microsystems Technologies” (MSYSTECH) project consortium (project manager: Assoc. Prof. Norocel Codreanu, Ph.D., “Politehnica” University of Bucharest, Romania, Center for Technological Electronics and Interconnection Techniques) PARTICIPATION: free of charge OBJECTIVES: The workshop wants to demonstrate the importance of microsystems and microsystems e-training in the frame of electronics industry. The innovative performance-centered training approach and practice-oriented Internet courses, developed based on a Leonardo da Vinci European project, are destined to vocational education, training of SMEs specialists, students from universities and other potential users, as educated but unemployed people (engineers, physicists, etc.) looking for additional training for employment. The focus is on the transfer of innovation in the multi-disciplinary area of microsystems. The objectives are: identifying and analyzing the user requirements of managers, engineers, students and technical staff in the field of microsystems technologies, presenting the e-learning environment with various multi-media training materials oriented to improve professional skills, and training the core user groups and future trainers (train-the-trainers action). The Internet courses within the MSYSTECH project (www.msystech.eu) provide new opportunities for co-operation between vocational training institutions, universities and SMEs in the sharing of knowledge and educational resources. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:  • Basics of microsystems and microsystems technologies; • Fundamentals of thermal management at microsystems level; • Introduction to packaging technologies; • Engineering aspects of photomasks data preparation.

e-Training

WORKSHOP OUTLINE: 1. Introduction in the “E-Training Microsystems Technologies” (MSYSTECH) project; 2. Microsystems Design and Technology - the objective of the course is to show the physical background and the approaches that are used in the design of MEMS-based sensors and actuators. The course will give an overview of microsystem technology and its applications. The course suits especially well for students who aim for R&D tasks; 3. Packaging Technologies - the objective of the course is to introduce the learners in microsystems packaging technologies, including design, analysis, fabrication, assembling, characterization and testing. In addition, this course will also introduce the most recent developments of micro- and nano-fabrication technologies. 4. Thermal Management of Microsystems - the learners will be able to define the most appropriate method of design and packaging of different microsystems for effective heat transfer and minimization of the hot spot effect; to evaluate the reliability and to identify the possible defaults due to overheating in order to insure the reliable functioning of the microsystem; 5. Photomasks Data Preparation - the main goal of this course is to present the techniques used in micro - and nano-components photomask data preparation. This course will allow fully understanding all the issues related to this critical step of chip development as well as the methods used to reduce both costs and delays; 6. Development of electronic modules in the frame of the project and trends toward future miniaturization to the microsystems level. SHORT COURSE TITLE:  “Transmission line animations in MATLAB“ INSTRUCTORS: Dr. Marius RANGU, “Politehnica” University of Timişoara, România Cătălin NEGREA, “Politehnica” University of Timişoara, România  PARTICIPATION: free of charge OBJECTIVES: Today’s high-speed electronic applications  cannot  ignore the  transmission line  effects  of  the  electronic  packaging. As  a  consequence, today’s engineers  must  then  be  trained  in  signal  integrity  and  one  of  the major topics  of  signal  integrity  is  transmission  line  signal  propagation. To  ease the  understanding  of  such  topics,  we  developed,  at  “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, Romania, an educational tool for transmission lines animations, which  is  freely  available  for  universities. This  short  course  presents this  tool, how  it  can  be  used  in  educational  activities and  how  it  can  be  modified to deal with more complex electrical models.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:   • Dr. Marius RANGU is lecturer at the Electronics and Telecommunications Faculty at “Politehnica” University of Timisoara, Romania, where he  is  involved in education and  research  in Electronic Packaging, Computer Aided Design and  Electronic  Systems  Testing.  He  has  a  bachelor  degree in  electronics  and a  PhD  degree in  Signal  Integrity,  earned  in  2008 at “Politehnica”  University of Bucharest.  • Catalin NEGREA is assistant professor at the Electronics and Telecommunications  Faculty  at “Politehnica”  University  of  Timisoara.  He  has  a  bachelor  degree in electronics and is currently a PhD Student at “Politehnica”University  of Bucharest.

STEFANESTI Vineyard is located 10 km from Pitesti. First mentioned in writing by the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus, in 330 BC. It is mentioned in the Wallachian Chronicles in 1388. In Stefanesti is produced, mainly, high quality white wines, such as Feteasca White, Sauvignon and Riesling Italian red wines but also Feteasca Black, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Burgund Mare times, but aromatic white wines such as: “Tamaioasa Romaneasca “ and “Muscat Ottonel“. Founded in 1959, vineyard resort Stefanesti was organized as a horticultural unit in the area in order to restore and extend viticulture and fruit growing, especially on hilly terrain.

“CURTEA DE ARGES” MONASTERY Location: Curtea de Arges town, Arges district, 36 km North-West from Pitesti. It was founded by Neagoe Basarab (1512-1517). It is considered to be a masterpiece, an outstanding historical monument. This monastery was an episcopal place between 1739 and 1748, becoming, after1990, an episcopal and monastic place. This is also the place where the relics of the Saint Nifon are preserved in a coffin made of silver and plated with gold. The Saint’s head and hands represent a present got by Neagoe Basarab from the monks who live in The Athos Mountains. There is also a coffin with the relics of the Saint Serghie, Vach and Saint Martyr Tatiana.

General information This monastery represents the Romanian Emperors’ necropolis. The portraits of the King Carol and the Queen Elisabeth can be found on the nave (or pronaos) walls. There are also the portraits of the Romanian rulers and “The Gospel of the Resurrection on the Good Saturday”, written with golden letters by the Queen Elisabeth.

”VIDRARU DAM” AND SURROUNDING Location: Argeş River, Arges district It is an arch dam built on a foundation of rock, and it was built to produce hydroelectricity. Its construction created a reservoir, Lake Vidraru. The dam’s height is 166 meters, the arch length 305 meters, water accumulation volume 465 million cubic meters, the reservoir has a total shoreline (perimeter) length of 28km. It was built in 1965 on the Argeş River. Situated between Frunţii Mountains and Ghiţu mountains, the lake collects the Capra, Buda and some other smaller rivers (Râul Doamnei, Cernatu and Vâlsan, Topolog, Valea lui Stan and Limpedea), with a total flow of about 5.5 million l /s. The total surface of the lake is 3,930,000 sq m, 10.3 km in length, with a maximum width of 2.2 km in the Valea Lupului zone - Călugăriţa. Normal level or water retention is 830.00 meters above the sea level (mdM). The dam’s construction took 5 and a half years. It required 42km of subterranean tunnels, excavation of 1,768,000 cubic meters of hard rocks, out of which approximatively 1 million had to be extracted from underground, 930,000 cubic meters of concrete, out of which 400,000 cubic meters were underground and required the installation of 6,300 tons of electro-mechanical equipment. When completed, it ranked 5th in Europe, and 9th in the world. In an average hydrological year it can generate approximately of 400 GWh/year.

General information TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS How to reach at “Cornul Vanatorului”, Pitesti By plane. From Otopeni Airport, near Bucharest, you can take bus or train to Bucharest. From Bucharest you can reach to Pitesti by train from Bucharest North (Bucuresti Nord) Rail Station. There are trains to Pitesti by two hours intervals (departures: 9:20; 11:20; 13:20; 15:20; 17:20). Please consult the train timetable at http://www.mersultrenurilorcfr.ro/ From Pitesti Rail Station to Trivale you can take the bus Nr. 8 and take off at the end of the line (the last bus station). From this point, there are about 800 m forward to the Cornul Vanatorului Center. Also you can take a taxi for about 15-20 lei (4-5 euro).

The 2011 SIITME Conference will be held in Timișoara, România

“Politehnica” University of Timisoara is one of the biggest and most well-known technical universities from Central and Eastern Europe. It was founded in 1920, short time after the union in one state of all the romanian territories -supervened in the context of the political redefinitions in Europe, following at the end of the First World War-, in order to respond to the need of engineers felt by the Romanian society at that time, within the economical revival it assumed. Today, “Politehnica“ University of Timisoara has 10 faculties and 4 independent departments, 15 000 students and 1700 teaching and administrative stuff. It has cooperation agreements with more than 100 universities from all over Europe, USA, Canada and Japan.
