The Mystical Arts of Tibet

Richard Gere and Sacred Music, Sacred Dance ADrepung Loseling

Pealer Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center The Tibetan Monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery return to Frostburg for an extraordinary five-day residency endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The performance of Sacred Music, Sacred Dance combines chanting, music and dance with a goal of world healing. Pieces are drawn from the authentic Tibetan temple dances and music that have been performed for thousands of years. Drepung Loseling monks are renowned for multiphonic chanting, known as zokkay (complete chord). Chantmasters simultaneously intone three notes, each individually creating a complete chord. Robed in colorful, intricate costumes and playing traditional instruments, the monks invite audiences to experience the beauty of their ancient culture. The New York Times described the experience as “remarkable … the music and the dance invoke sacred ecstasy.” CES MEMBERS ONLY $19.20 ADULT $24.00 UNDER 17/ FSU STAFF $21.60 FSU STUDENT $5.00
