Position: Communications and Marketing Director Reports to: Deputy Director / Leadership Council Job Summary: The Markets Platform acts as the primary communication and relationship manager between CES and its targeted markets - members, subscribers, public entities, private and public (Federal/State) funders, foundations, donors, teachers, advocacy groups, professional organizations, employees, potential markets, etc. The leader works collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement communications and marketing strategy to broaden the audience for the agency’s programs, and oversee organizational messaging and constituent services. The Leader is accountable for the overall effectiveness of the Markets Platform and is a member of the Leadership Council. Major Responsibilities: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact; work with a core team to implement those strategies. Manage and oversee communications and marketing activities of the agency: Public Relations, Website, Graphics and Print materials, Advertising, and outreach to member districts, funders, and other markets, press releases and use of social media Develop and refine the agency’s "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency Develop and refine policies and procedures for communication, marketing, use of social media, Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support the agency’s work, and create and implement plans to exploit them Identify and match up staff to act as liaisons with our targeted markets and equip them with training and tools to be effective in this role. Develop and manage outreach strategies for staff to bring information on challenges/needs into CES and protocols for communicating those needs to the appropriate CES platform /program manager and tracking follow-through. Collaborate with Teaching and Learning platform staff and the Knowledge Management Platform to develop and manage service agreements/partnerships; summarize the implications of these relationships for use by platforms – integrating functions to assure that there is synergy among CES services; and establish benchmarks for monitoring by liaisons. Supervise staff in Communications roles and in Markets Platform Additional Responsibilities Lead the Markets Platform Work collaboratively with the organization's website and social network communities With the Executive or Deputy Director, represent CES at media opportunities and community events. Participate as a member of the Leadership council, assisting in the enhancement and growth of the CES organization.
Hiring Requirements/Preferences: BA/BS degree and minimum of 10 years of strategic marketing experience in educational markets preferable Extensive communications experience that includes a blend of advocacy and media relations Track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive communications environment Exemplary public speaking and writing skills required, as are the ability to work with widely diverse personalities. Strong familiarity with social media and digital marketing tools and strategies. Visionary outlook with the ability to facilitate collaboration and create synergy Innovation, creativity and a high level of energy are desired traits Ability to coach and support others in active listening skills, needs assessment and data collection Willingness to adjust workload and procedures based on feedback and self analysis Demonstrated ability to develop and contract new business opportunities.
