GET INSPIRED

Across the continuum of Team Care In this chapter, you’ll hear stories from our members and providers on the benefits of the Team Care model.

Healthe Clinic

A decade of improving health and care In the fall of 2005, Neal Patterson and his leadership team decided something had to change – it was time to disrupt the health and care status quo for Cerner’s associates and their families. It was then that Cerner made two bold decisions – to create our own third-party administrator to adjudicate our claims and to open an on-site clinic at World Headquarters Campus. By being more innovative and creating more services in-house, this opportunity would offer Cerner a deeper understanding of health care and greater transparency to data. In 2006, Neal’s vision became reality as medical claims processing came in-house and the Healthe Clinic opened its doors for the first time to associates and their families. “The Healthe Clinic was an opportunity to provide services to people in the way I was trained,” recalled David Nill, MD, chief medical officer of Healthe at Cerner. “The focus was on the individual getting or staying healthy as opposed to rapidly churning people through a clinic.”

7

91% of respondents rated their visit as excellent.

97%

Our clinics are changing the way we provide on-site health and care. “The opening of each additional Healthe Clinic has served as major milestones during the journey,” said David. “We’re changing the way primary care is delivered.” Originally, the clinic was planned to operate in an urgent care capacity; however, the Healthe Clinic quickly evolved to a medical home for ongoing, comprehensive care. You’ll experience something much more than a typical community clinic. At the Healthe Clinic, our experienced providers deliver transparent and comprehensive care that places you at the center of the experience. “We seek to reduce wasted time waiting while adding more time with the care team,” said David.

of respondents said that Healthe Clinic providers gave easy-to-understand instructions, listened carefully, knew the important information about their health history and explained things adequately.

The care team brings the experience to our associates with the clinic’s physical structure of a front and back stage, offering privacy and confidentiality. The use of leading-edge technology helps facilitate and increase

efficiencies and better connects patients to their data and providers. Representatives from employers and health systems are impressed by our approach to care. “When a team from Intermountain Healthcare reacted to our clinic during a tour, they told me that we were truly ahead of the curve,” recalled David. When asked by the CIO what the most important thing his team should hear about or see while visiting Cerner, the answer was: the clinic. The Healthe Clinic gives you access to a high-performing care team that works together, based on a relationship of trust, respect and shared decision-making, to help ensure personal health goals are not only met but exceeded. Healthe Clinic and pharmacy at Innovations Breaking ground on healthier living In early 2017, we opened the doors to our newest Healthe Clinic and pharmacy at Innovations. As the fourth Kansas City site, the Innovations Healthe Clinic includes many of the evolved design principles we debuted at the Continuous Healthe Clinic. The new clinic features additional care suites and more space for clinical collaboration. “We are excited for new opportunities for our varying provider teams to collaborate,” said Mary Beth Russell, Healthe Clinic manager. “The Innovations Healthe Clinic layout facilitates increased Team Care coordination between our primary care providers, therapists, dietitians, coaches and chiropractors. We’ve found that space design is crucial to the execution of the medical home model.”

Innovating the consumer and provider experience using technology internally and for clients At Cerner, we’re positioned to test our solutions internally through Healthe at Cerner’s strategic alignments with the Population Health member engagement and technology teams. At the same time, our associates and their families are empowered to improve their health. As a consumer-focused living lab, our associates are the first to test and try new technology before it’s made available to clients. Cerner’s consumer solutions follow a business-to-business-to-consumer business model, meaning we sell consumer-based solutions to health systems and employers then market the solutions to their consumers. Because of the more direct alignment to consumers, the Healthe Clinic is one of our most valuable avenues in testing the latest technology and trying out bold and innovative ideas. Solutions such

as a clinical rooming solution and a redefined check-in experience, through the implementation of self-registration kiosks, are just a few of the innovations tested in the clinic and brought to market. The clinical rooming solution is an ambulatory technology that focuses on the status of care suites, such as patient occupancy status and cleanliness. A small screen is placed at each care suite entrance to allow physicians and member service specialists to quickly and effectively know the status of a room, through stop-light coding system, and can take action where needed. Self-registration kiosks allow for quicker member check-ins, while offering member service specialists more time for interactions with members on the phone or when scheduling new appointments.

Healthe Clinic members use a self-registration kiosk for efficient check-in.

There’s still no “I” in Team Care “The Team Care approach is extremely valuable and beneficial not only to the member, but the care team as well,” said Rachel Holt, MD. “You just don’t see this type of care out in the community.” Steven Young, director of Cerner Connect, believes in this approach. “A couple of years ago, some of my health habits began to slip,” said Steven. “I had always been a member at the Healthe Clinic, but only when the Team Care approach was implemented did I truly experience integrated care.” Rachel Holt, MD, (center) is pictured with her Healthe Clinic care team, that includes a visit navigator, nurse, pharmacist, health coach and dietitian.

What if your primary care physician regularly communicated with your registered dietitian, who spoke with your behavioral therapist, who worked to connect you to a fitness specialist, who got you set up with your very own personalized fitness plan? Doesn’t sound possible, does it? But it is! The Healthe Clinic has made this highly collaborative and interconnected approach a reality, which we call, Team Care. With Team Care, clinic members receive personal, connected care from members of their clinical team.

11

When meeting with Dr. Holt, the two discussed and addressed his rising blood pressure. After getting the results of Steven’s Healthe Living with Rewards screening, they noticed other numbers slipping, including his cholesterol. Steven recalled, “I knew I needed to make a change, but the biggest challenge was myself. I was educated enough to know how to make changes and thought I could do it on my own.” But when the numbers indicated pre-diabetes, that’s when Steven really started to pay more attention. Dr. Holt connected Steven with Rachel Schieber, senior wellness coach and member of Dr. Holt’s care team, where they set sustainable and attainable goals. “Rachel was great to work with; she was so patient with me,” said Steven. “She helped me build my toolkit into a series of things I could turn to when I started to struggle with my goals. The best thing I told myself was to get away from the ‘all or nothing’ attitude. I don’t have to be perfect.”

GET I N S P I RE D – ACROSS TH E CO NTINU U M O F TE AM CARE

After having this change of heart and setting goals through monthly conversations with Schieber, Steven has seen success. In 2016, he lost 30 pounds, and his journey to better health is ongoing. With support from his wife, Steven has set his sights on changing his lifestyle to no longer need medication and lose more weight. “I don’t want my behavior to be detrimental to my health. I want these healthy habits to become part of my day-to-day,” said Steven. And that’s exactly what he is doing. He wears his Fitbit and takes walks each day, tracks what he eats with MyFitnessPal and visits the Healthe Fitness Center three to five times a week. “Again, it’s about getting away from the ‘all or nothing’ mentality and just doing what you can,” said Steven.

“The whole team is wonderful. When something goes wrong, they are always in sync, so they are all aware of what’s happening. We’re not treating symptoms, we’re treating the behavior and psychology. The approach is holistic and it’s equipping me to handle situations on my own.” To Steven, Team Care is valuable because it’s holding him accountable – through the good and the bad. “It’s making me become more self-aware through the goals I’ve set. My cholesterol is down, my blood pressure is down and my glucose is much better,” said Steven. “I’m not quite where I want to be yet, but with Team Care and my own willingness to change, I’m confident I can get there.” Watch our care team story here: http://bit.ly/2DPj5BP

Health and wellness coaching for a better you Adam Anderson’s story Change is hard, especially when it comes to your health. It can be even harder to go it alone. At Cerner, we want you to feel connected and supported throughout your health journey. That’s why we offer health and wellness coaching as part of our Team Care model in the Healthe Clinic. Our coaches are motivating, supportive and empowering to help you make positive behavior changes. When you meet with a health or wellness coach, you’ll create a road map to enhance and improve your well-being through short- and long-term action plans to help you achieve your overall health goals. When Adam Anderson, production owner architect, joined Cerner in 2015, he took advantage of the Healthe at Cerner programs and on-site services by scheduling his physical through the Healthe Clinic – a routine activity that turned into an eye-opening experience. Adam was 422 pounds and pre-diabetic with a high A1C level. He set out to change his life. Whatever it takes.

Through Healthe at Cerner’s coordinated programs and Team Care collaboration, Adam immediately connected with a wellness coach, registered dietitian and fitness specialist. He began working out at the Healthe Fitness Center for an hour a day, five days a week. Adam went from being up and active only when necessary to not sitting still for more than 30 minutes at a time – making his 10,000 daily steps goal a breeze. Diet changes were also key to Adam’s new lifestyle; goodbye fatty, salty and sugary foods. With smaller portions and adding more fruits and vegetables to his diet, Adam went from consuming around 5,000 calories a day to around 2,000 – less than half! How did he stay motivated during that time? Support from his daughter and a little one on the way. Of course, seeing the numbers on the scale go down and fitting into old clothes were also big motivators. “I had no idea how fast things would change, especially with regard to my heart health. It feels like I’m finally recovering from a 12-year illness that was dragging me to the grave,” Adam said. Watch Adam’s story here: http://bit.ly/2DOFFql

Prescribing clarity, safety and transparency to associates Michelle Hudson’s story Are your medications safe, effective and affordable? That’s what the Pharmacy Advocacy Program is here to help you ensure. Powered by the Healthe Pharmacy and Tria Health, the program allows you to speak one-on-one with a pharmacist and feel confident in your medication management. “As Healthe Clinic pharmacists, we have firsthand experience in working with members who are trying to juggle the coordination of multiple meds, endless provider visits, and all the while, making efforts to live or maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Erin Smith, Healthe Clinic pharmacist. “The Pharmacy Advocacy Program is extremely important for these members as it provides assistance in identifying ways to save money on medications, alerts potential harmful interactions and helps with staying compliant on medications.” Michelle Hudson, a professional illustrator and photographer, suffers from chronic migraines. “I would have upward of four to five a week,” said Michelle. “Erin contacted me about the

15

Pharmacy Advocacy Program, explained what it was and I agreed to participate. It seemed like a good way to express my concerns over what drugs I was taking for my migraines, and what my options were as I felt that I was being limited.” In going through the advocacy program, Michelle was able to move forward with her migraine issue and is now being treated by a neurologist. “I no longer feel like I’m going to the doctor for a band aid,” Michelle said. “Since joining this program, I have had a much better relationship with the pharmacy and care team at Cerner. There doesn’t seem to be that awkwardness anymore, which could have prevented the right questions from being asked.”

To date, nearly 600 members have engaged in and benefited from the program.

Pharmacy Advocacy Program – Asthma management program Tyler and Lauren Maniez’s story When Ethan Maniez was hospitalized with a severe case of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) at 3 months old, his parents, Tyler, manager, and Lauren, were warned about the onset of asthma as Ethan grew older. Around the time Ethan turned 18 months old, his newly acquired walking skills quickly turned into running. But when his physical activity caused him to suffer severe coughing fits, Tyler and Lauren became concerned.

care from Tria Health and the Healthe Pharmacy. Cerner health benefits members, who have an active asthma diagnosis, are given the unique opportunity to receive complete coverage on their inhaled corticosteroids by engaging in the program after their first fill of the medication. “Without the program, would we have purchased the medication for Ethan anyway? Of course,” Tyler said. “However, this invaluable program has provided immense relief for me

“From our initial visits with his pediatrician and an allergist, Ethan was given treatments to help with his breathing,” Tyler explained. “But soon after, he was diagnosed with pre-asthma and it was recommended we give him nightly treatments of something called budesonide.” This medication combats the full onset of asthma. Upon discovering that budesonide is an expensive medication, Tyler and Lauren spoke to a clinician at the Healthe Pharmacy who directed them to Cerner’s asthma management program. Asthma management is offered through our Pharmacy Advocacy Program and delivered through the comprehensive

and Lauren in many ways. Not only has it helped reduce the cost burden and allowed us to be proactive in Ethan’s care, but as busy parents, it’s amazing to have a program that is simple, efficient and hassle-free.” As Ethan continues to grow, his asthma is under control and he can enjoy being a kid. “He’s running around and no longer has breathing problems,” Tyler said. “We feel confident that the medication we were able to receive through this amazing benefit has helped propel Ethan ahead of the asthma.” Tyler and Lauren still engage with a Tria Health pharmacist on a regular basis to check on Ethan’s health status and ensure that the medication is working properly. To learn more about working confidentially with a pharmacist who will collaborate with both you and your prescribing physician to help ensure your meds are safe, effective and affordable, visit healtheatcerner.com.

“I am truly impressed with Cerner’s Pharmacy Advocacy Program,” said Lynn Allen, health benefits member. “When you have multiple health conditions like I do, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage all the medications prescribed by multiple providers.” So, when Lynn received a call from Tria Health to ask if she and her husband would be interested in participating in the program, Lynn’s response was, “Absolutely!” Working side by side with Tria, Lynn has gained a deeper understanding of her medications. “One of the best features of this program is that I have the opportunity to talk with someone who is knowledgeable and can give me information that is specific to my medical conditions. This allows me to ask meaningful questions and interact with someone who is not on a time crunch or in a fast-paced clinical setting. I am empowered to be proactive in my own health care.” Lynn and her Tria pharmacist touch base regularly to help ensure her medications are safe, effective and affordable. “I know I have a pharmacy health advocate in my corner whom I can speak to whenever needed,” explained Lynn. “Cerner is asking us to be more proactive and take health care into our own hands, and this program is a perfect avenue to do that. My husband and I are grateful that Cerner offers this amazing benefit.”

It pays to be tobacco-free El Paul Pomerantz’s story These days, mornings are a lot different for El Paul Pomerantz, team lead and senior technical writer. Reflecting on stories from his tobacco smoking days, El Paul recalls, “I used to wake up in the morning wanting to cough up a lung. My kids would always ask me if I was OK.” For the last 31 years, El Paul smoked a pack of cigarettes every day. The extremely addicting habit was negatively affecting his health and his family, who kept asking him to quit. “I would have shortness of breath when trying to run or pretty much after doing anything. But the biggest thing as a smoker that you don’t really realize until you quit is how badly you smell like an old dirty cigarette; you literally lose your sense of smell,” El Paul said.

“I noted the surcharge for tobacco users and decided that I didn’t want to have to pay for my smoking habits. So when signing up, I didn’t know not smoking wasn’t an option. I pretty much had it set in my head that I was going to quit smoking,” El Paul said. With this newfound motivation, El Paul signed up for the on-site tobacco cessation sessions offered through the Healthe Clinic. “The cessation program was awesome! If that opportunity hadn’t surfaced from my benefits enrollment, I probably wouldn’t have quit,” El Paul admits.

So what was the turning point for El Paul? It was a combination of a benefits surcharge, his family and, of course, his health. During the 2016 benefits annual enrollment, Cerner benefits issued a tobacco surcharge notice. Any individual signing up for the health plan who uses tobacco will incur a surcharge on the health plan premiums if he or she did not elect to participate in an approved tobacco cessation course. Approved courses are available either through the Healthe Clinic or through New Directions Behavioral Health.

19

With a supportive and encouraging instructor, El Paul’s tobacco cessation sessions were interactive and collaborative. The instructor followed up after each session and made sure everyone was doing their homework. “Going to the sessions and hearing other people share their stories and what they were going through made my experience much more valuable, and I felt motivated and supported by the leader of the sessions,” El Paul mentioned. But as with any habit, breaking up is hard to do. The most challenging times were the hours during the day in which El Paul would normally light a cigarette. “I had to schedule meetings over the normal times I would typically go have a cigarette,” he said. “The biggest challenge for me was not being able to smoke in my car.” With the support he found through the tobacco cessation program and ongoing encouragement from his family, El Paul has been tobacco-free since January 5, 2016. The benefits of not smoking have been plentiful for him, including not having to pay a tobacco surcharge. “I save nearly $140 a month just on cigarette cost. I eat a lot healthier now and

can actually taste food. My cardio is so much better and I can run a 5k without coughing up a lung. I’m also told I don’t smell like a dirty cigarette anymore!” Something El Paul wants other tobacco users to know is that if you think tobacco may not affect you now, it will down the road. Stick around and stay healthy for your family and friends. According to the World Health Organization, “Tobacco use is one of the main risk factors for a number of chronic diseases, including cancer, lung diseases and cardiovascular diseases.” In 2010, all of our campuses became 100 percent tobacco-free. This is just another effort in reinforcing our commitment to healthy lifestyles and a cleaner environment for associates. Because we believe in joint accountability, we wanted to provide the appropriate resources and tools for associates who use tobacco to feel empowered and finally be able to quit.

Your Medical Ally Mike and Tracy Boyd’s story For the better part of 2016, Tracy’s husband, Mike, had been experiencing hip irritation. The levels of irritation had slowly progressed from “I hope this goes away” to “What’s really going on?” to finally “I’ve got a real problem.” When November rolled around, Mike experienced the tears and frustration that came with the realization that he would need to have surgery. “I’ve had surgery in the past to repair both my Achilles tendons, where I had to be off my feet for six weeks at a time. It’s just something I never wanted to go through again,” Mike explained. “There was so much we did not know about hip surgery; the different options and all the various things to watch out for – we just felt lost,” Mike recalled. After learning more about one of Cerner’s benefits tools, Your Medical Ally, Tracy took special notice of the Surgical Decision Support (SDS) information. She said, “The information mentioned ‘hip replacement’ as one of the eligible procedures for SDS, which caught my eye, knowing that Mike was heading in

that direction.” Tracy then logged into ConsumerMedical’s website via healtheatcerner.com to request more information. “We’ve been extremely happy with the information we’ve received from ConsumerMedical,” Mike said. “We were better able to pick a surgeon who met our needs, and it’s amazing how much it helped clear the clouds we were in. We had a firm footing under our feet to move forward, as opposed to the process pulling us forward without us having any idea of where we were going.” On June 5, 2017, Mike went through with the hip surgery. He still uses precautions when walking and putting weight on his legs, but Mike is in a much better place. “I’ve gone from the joint itself being painful on every step, to the muscle tissue around the joint being achy from the surgery – this is bothersome, but it’s not at all bothersome like when the joint itself was the problem,” Mike described.

Now that Mike has had the surgery, he’s looking forward to all the travel plans ahead for him and Tracy. “We live in a Fitbit-oriented world, so if I can get back to my 10,000-step mindset, that’s really where I want to be.” Since 2015, Your Medical Ally has helped nearly 8,000 members find their way to better health care information. Genomic analysis and lifestyle Coaching pilot tests personalization What if you could predict a chronic condition before it occurs? A new genomics pilot, launched by the Healthe Clinic, is designed to enhance an individual’s involvement in their heath and care. By analyzing personal genomic data, members can better understand how to improve their lifestyle habits and help prevent future chronic illness.

Participants who consented to the study submitted their 23andMe genomic data, and over the course of a year, completed three screenings and had the option to work with a health or wellness coach and registered dietitian to improve lifestyle habits and decrease risk of chronic disease. To learn more about the program, visit kansascity.com/news/business/article114272788.html.

This study aims to advance the practice of personalized medicine with genomic and biometric information. Using the data discovered, the hope is to identify potential chronic conditions earlier in life to possibly avoid or minimize the increased risk of illnesses, such as: • Type 2 diabetes • Metabolic syndrome • Osteoporosis • Depression • Obesity

Cerner Maternity: What you can expect when you’re expecting Alex Rico’s story the maternity navigation program for health coaching and education and delivery with a Cerner Certified Maternity Partner. Healthe Clinic maternity navigators provide members with guidance spanning the preconception, prenatal, delivery and postpartum phases of the maternity experience. The navigator works closely with members to achieve a healthy pregnancy, an optimal delivery experience, a healthy baby and a smooth return to work. As first-time parents, when Alex Rico, manager, lead project manager, and his wife, Christine, heard about Cerner Maternity, they knew right away that they’d want to engage.

Welcoming a new arrival? Having a baby is an exciting and amazing time but can also be confusing and a bit challenging. You have so much to figure out and it can get overwhelming. Do you know how to plan your leave? Do you know what to expect during pregnancy and delivery? How do you prepare for returning to work while continuing to care for your newborn? From planning to start a family to going back to work after maternity leave, we know the journey can be complicated, and that’s why we created Cerner Maternity. The program enhances the entire maternity experience through two main components:

31

“Having a baby is stressful, and this program basically removes a lot of the stress when it comes to picking a place to deliver and getting ready for that major event,” Alex said. “Since we were wholly new to the birthing experience and process, we were looking for a facility where we could focus on Christine and her needs rather than the details of process and protocol.” During sessions with their maternity navigator, Alex and Christine were appreciative of the step-by-step guidance. “She walked us through everything we needed to know, from class offerings to timelines for making decisions and contacts for everything in between,” Alex said.

Progyny: The birth of a beautiful partnership Cerner partners with two Kansas City-area hospitals, Shawnee Mission Health and TMC-Lakewood, to facilitate a high-quality delivery. These Cerner-certified maternity partners are committed to aligning with Cerner’s criteria around patient-centered care, evidence-based medicine, use of technology and outstanding member experience.

Through a partnership between Cerner and Progyny, medical and prescription medication coverage is available to health plan members who may need to pursue fertility treatment, preserve their fertility or receive information regarding the path of surrogacy. The benefit also includes coverage for fertility medication coverage and administration. Using the latest science, Progyny provides our eligible members with a smart fertility benefit to increase success rates related to fertility treatments. Progyny provides a best-in-class network and robust resources, including a patient care advocate who provides guidance, support and expert access.

“We had a phenomenal experience delivering at Shawnee Mission Health,” Alex said. “The staff was engaged, courteous and informative. Plus, they were patient and did everything they could to help us through the process. Thanks to the enhanced experience and care we received throughout Christine’s pregnancy, we now have a healthy, happy, snuggly boy named Oliver.”

A mother and her baby can breathe easy Victoria Tiernan’s story As first-time parents, Cerner associate Victoria Tiernan, program manager, and her husband wanted to take advantage of the Cerner Maternity program and its on-site classes, which are available at no cost to our associates and their partners. Victoria said, “When I was pregnant with my daughter, I began looking into the program to see what all was available.”

While Grace swallowed the first two drops just fine, Victoria knew immediately something was wrong after the third drop. She explained how Grace began to aspirate, “Her face turned bright red and had a look of panic as her arms flailed out to the sides like she did when she was scared. She began making a choking sound, and I realized her chest wasn’t rising and falling; she got so red she was almost purple.”

While Victoria and her husband enrolled in many of the Cerner Maternity classes, they were especially interested in Introduction to Infant CPR – a one-hour course led by an American Heart Association certified instructor. The course helps prepare parents to respond and manage in an emergency situation, such as choking, until professional help arrives. Victoria explained, “It’s a skill you hope to never need, but one you want to have before you ever need it.” Due to scheduling conflicts and the high demand for the course, class instructor and Cerner Security Specialist Norma Lollas met with the couple one week prior to their daughter’s due date to review the class content. Three months later, after Grace was born, Victoria was home alone with her one night while her husband was working late. Grace had caught her first illness from day care and had a fever. Leaving her phone downstairs, Victoria took Grace up to her room to give her a dose of infant’s Tylenol, a very thick syrup – and the first thing Grace had ever consumed aside from breastmilk.

33

Norma Lollas, Infant CPR instructor, was instrumental in helping prepare Victoria, with daughter Grace, for what would be one of the scariest moments of her life.

GET INS PIRE D – CO NS U ME R E MPOWE RME NT

Despite her panic, Victoria remembered what Norma taught her and took action. “I grabbed my daughter, held her in a prone position with her head lower than her body and gave repeated pats to her back. After a few pats, she started to cough and the Tylenol drained out,” she said. “We both proceeded to cry hysterically.” Victoria doesn’t like letting her mind wander to what might have happened had she not taken the Introduction to Infant CPR class with Norma. She stated, “That night, and the course of my family’s lives, could have ended very differently.” A year later, Victoria and her husband are still incredibly grateful they had the opportunity to take the course. She emphasized, “As parents, the health and safety of our children are always on our mind. I can’t think of a reason not to take the Cerner Maternity courses, especially when they’re so conveniently offered to us.”

Choking is one of the leading causes of unintentional death for infants, who require a different rescue procedure than adults.

Mobile Mammograms Georgia Ramage’s story Each year, women at our Kansas City campuses have the opportunity to schedule an appointment for a mammogram screening with an on-site mobile mammography unit. In 2016, 147 women received an on-site mammogram screening. One associate, Georgia Ramage, discussed how this routine screening helped save her life.

ultrasound. Georgia said, “The radiologist took my hand and gently explained that they had picked up a small, solid tumor-like lump in my right breast. She recommended I consult a breast surgeon for a biopsy.”

Like many of us, Georgia’s busy life made it easy for her to put others ahead of herself. This includes monitoring her health and delaying her annual preventative mammogram screening. But six years ago, a friend and fellow associate convinced Georgia to register for an appointment with the on-site mobile mammography unit – a decision that would change her life. Georgia recalled, “We were walking past the Healthe Clinic at the time, and she reasoned it would only take a few minutes.” After her appointment, Georgia was called and told a follow-up ultrasound was recommended. While she wasn’t concerned initially, she knew something wasn’t right when the radiologist came into the room after her

WOMEN IN THE U.S. will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. cancer.org/cancer/breast-cancer/about/ how-common-is-breast-cancer.html

In a state of shock, Georgia found herself crying in her car – no recollection of leaving the doctor’s office. She remembers speaking to her husband after receiving the news, “I called my husband at work and he said all the right things. This did not necessarily mean cancer; everything would be fine and he loved me.” After it was confirmed that the tumor did indeed indicate cancer, Georgia and her husband met with the surgeon and discussed her options. At the time, they were also informed the tumor was up against her chest wall. Without the mammogram, it would likely never have been found until it was much too late. Post-surgery, Georgia awoke in recovery to her surgeon telling her there was microinvasion in her lymph nodes, so it had been necessary to remove them from her right arm. This discovery also meant she would have to see an

oncologist for chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Throughout her experience, Georgia’s husband, son and friends provided her strength, encouragement and laughter along the way. She also received tremendous support from her fellow associates. She said, “I treasure the book, ‘The Little Engine That Could,’ presented to me and signed by my Cerner family when I completed treatment.” Now, Georgia is cancer-free and has advice for other women who may also be delaying scheduling a mammogram screening. She said, “I am here today, healthy and happy, because a mammogram found a tumor early enough. It has been six wonderful years of life and love I might not have experienced without that mammogram.” She continued, “When I think of all the laughter and friendship I could have missed, I am so grateful. Thanks to my employer bringing the mammogram to me, I am here to tell other women to get your mammogram screening.”

Early detection of breast cancer with screening mammography means that treatment can be started earlier in the course of the disease, possibly before it has spread.

When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, Georgia asked for enough time to see her son graduate from high school. Now, she’s not only cancer-free, but was able to see her son graduate from college and continue into the next chapter of his life. cancer.gov/types/breast/mammograms-fact-sheet

Cerner Motion Health Move well and move often Ever stop to think about how you move? Or if you’re moving right? Movement is something many of us take for granted, but for some, chronic pain or lingering injuries can inhibit how we move. The Cerner Motion HealthSM program is a strategically driven initiative that aims to prevent, identify and address the musculoskeletal needs of individuals. This comprehensive program offers members a new experience in musculoskeletal assessment and provides a personalized movement-based treatment approach through reset, retrain and reinforce methods. A variety of on-site offerings, along with online resources and education, exist to help members throughout their musculoskeletal health journey. Programming includes access to certified athletic trainers and a Motion Capture, which is a 12-movement musculoskeletal screening using the latest marker-less 3D motion capture technology. The Motion Capture generates a personalized rehabilitative exercise plan to include mobility classes in our Healthe Fitness Center. “With motion health and the technology behind the programming, we’re giving people a glimpse into their bodies, telling them what’s going on and

39

empowering them with the tools and resources to address it,” said Rebekah Grube, Cerner Motion Health program manager and certified athletic trainer. “We believe that with the right corrective steps, many individuals can get better without costly procedures, medications and therapies. We want members to have a body that moves well and moves often.” Many members have greatly benefitted from participation in the program, including increased activity with minimal or no pain, cost savings from avoiding expensive surgery, medication or physical therapy, and overall healthier bodies. “The first time I engaged in motion health was through a motion capture,” said Bill Vega, technical project manager with Population Health. “In the analysis, they found that I had ‘red zones’ in my neck that needed improvement, which was odd to me since I didn’t think I had any problems in that area. A week later, I noticed the neck pain.” This revelation made Bill want to figure out the source of the problem and take steps to reduce his pain. He completed exercises offered through the motion health program, then he attended acupuncture sessions and had a few chiropractic adjustments. Bill found the program invaluable for identifying problem areas before they presented themselves. “I’m also seeing Rebekah for some of my hamstring issues,” said Bill. “With her expertise and the personalized exercises, I am healing my

hamstrings the right way through recovery and strength. With her help, we’ve developed a walk/run program to help get on the path to running again. I’ve also found the Cerner Running & Cycling Club to be a great way to implement my exercises.” Our motion health success stories don’t end with Bill. “When my back pain persisted, a friend of mine told me to go see Rebekah,” said Mark Brewer, system architect. “After completing a Motion Capture analysis and working with Rebekah, I found the pain stemmed from my SI joint.” Mark regularly completes the personalized stretches and exercises provided by Rebekah and her team and, although minor back pain persists, he is starting to see an increase in flexibility. “We do a lot of sitting at Cerner,” said Mark. “I think that the biggest benefit of the program is stretching your body out correctly, but it does take commitment to do it. I can sit in a chair now, whereas before I had to stand because of the pain. I can also get back to the gym and exercise on the elliptical and the bike.” Mark’s ultimate goal is to run again and continue to take motion health mobility classes.

With the help of the Motion Health program, Bill Vega is on the path to running again.

Motion health Since launching the motion capture system, we’ve made significant progress in our ability to scale, analyze and deliver results, as well as prescribe personalized corrective plans. The development of sophisticated algorithms and the build of an online portal removed the arduous task of manually analyzing and delivering results. Delivering results accurately and quickly enabled us to perform thousands of associate motion captures and educate them about their musculoskeletal dysfunctions and provide them an action plan to achieve better health.

Women on Weights Stronger is beautiful

For many women, working out in the free weights area of a fitness center can be intimidating, especially if you’re going alone or not familiar with how to use the equipment properly. Women on Weights (WoW) is a small group training program specifically designed for women who are new to lifting weights and want to get stronger and feel more confident in the gym. Groups meet about twice a week and are led by a Healthe Fitness Center fitness specialist. WoW incorporates the fun of working out in a group setting, while providing a challenging circuit-style workout. Participants learn proper equipment setup, form and technique, all while staying motivated with other women. “I wanted to add strength training into my routine, but I was intimidated by the equipment and the men who often dominate it,” said Gina Harlow, interface architect and WoW participant. “The last time I used fitness equipment was a couple of decades ago.”

47

Gina found out about WoW through a colleague and ultimately decided to join. “The fitness specialists are fun and upbeat, super informative and helpful with ensuring the movements are being done correctly with focus on the proper muscle groups,” Gina said. “They pushed me a little further than I would’ve thought to push myself, which allowed me to see results in a shorter timeframe than I anticipated. I’ve noticed an increase in my strength, energy level and mental health.” Rebecca Ebert, another WoW participant, had a similar experience. “I used to lift weights and enjoyed it, but it had been so long, I wasn’t sure where or how to start again. Having a few colleagues from my team also join WoW was the final push for me to get started. It was nice having that support system,” said Rebecca. “Seeing the same people at each session and working with fitness specialists who are super motivating and enthusiastic keep me going.” To sign up, visit the Healthe Fitness Center front desk.

Kansas City Corporate Challenge Sparking the competitive spirit

When April rolls around, the weather isn’t the only thing that heats up in Kansas City. Competition also heats up as companies from around the area gear up for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge (KCCC). Cerner team captains round up their athletes for practice sessions and talk strategy on how to maintain Cerner’s impressive winning streak. KCCC is a great way for associates to interact and network with other companies in the Kansas City area, while also showing our competitive spirit. As the competition promotes a healthy lifestyle and staying active, it also challenges individuals to push themselves to achieve their personal fitness goals. Kushal Gurung, software architect, has participated in KCCC since 2012 in the 5k and half marathon events. “It definitely keeps me motivated to train hard,” said Kushal. “I am extremely happy with the improvements I have made since 2012.” Since starting in the competition, Kushal has achieved his personal goals in these two events – one, to run a 5k in less than 20 minutes and the other to run the half marathon in less than an hour and 30 minutes. “It is an amazing feeling to participate in the KCCC events representing Cerner,” Kushal said.

Malvern Biking Events

Rain or shine, hitting the pedal grind On cold, dark early mornings, when others are still waking up or brewing their warm cup of joe, Cerner Malvern bikers are hitting the Chester Valley Trail in Exton, Pennsylvania, spinning their way to work. These riders are part of Cerner’s sponsored Bike to Work events, which stemmed from the challenge put forth by the Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC). From June to October, dedicated riders meet every second Wednesday of the month and bike to work. The goal is to improve air quality by reducing emissions, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle. Jenny Brower, senior software engineer, and Pete Githens, technical project manager, both Bike to Work participants and Malvern winners of Cerner’s Tour de Cerner challenge, lead the charge as these riders brave the elements while spinning their way to campus. “When I first got into biking, I was asked by fellow Cerner associate Sobrina Butler to join me in the week-long TMACC Bike to Work challenge,” recalled Jenny. “So, I pulled out my daughter’s old mountain bike and put on a pair of jean shorts, due to my lack of biking attire, and I biked to work a few times – even though it rained the entire week.” To begin, the group only had a few riders, but after the cyclists received some internal executive support and word of mouth spread, that number slowly grew.

51

Pete remembered the first time he biked to work. “I got started through my involvement in triathlons and had heard about the Bike to Work challenge through Jenny, and thought, well why wouldn’t I do it, too? I ride my bike all the time anyway.” Pete also saw this challenge as a great way to get other people involved in cycling. “Now, we see up to 29 riders at a time; interest has really grown and our numbers have gone off the chart!” Jenny said about the increased participation. “We’ve got more people riding and riding more at home as well.” Because of the commitment and participation of bikers, our Malvern associates have won the TMACC Corporate Challenge for the last six years. And in 2016, we received third place in the National Bike Challenge through the local TMACC with 18 riders logging more than 5,800 miles from May through September. As bikers continue to ride and grow their numbers, they’re excited to log their miles and participate in the Healthe Fitness Center’s Running and Cycling Clubs.

A focus on mental and emotional health

Resources to help you be happy, healthy and productive Brain and emotional health play a significant role in our personal well-being. According to the World Health Organization, one in four people will be affected by mental illness at some point in their lives. This stat shows that, in one way or another, we all need to work on our mental health. At Cerner, we want you to be happy, healthy and productive. That’s why over the last five years, we’ve invested in the behavioral health space through our benefits plan design, on-site services, wellness class education and web-based tools. Looking to the future, we will continue to emphasize brain and emotional health efforts across the spectrum of health and care.

53

“Brain health is important because it is principal to all other health-based improvements, yet it remains one of the most overlooked aspects of our health. Understanding behavior, the neurological pathways that lead to our habits and tendencies, gives us the best chance to improve our health. Humans need help in navigating that complexity and that is why it is important for Cerner to have this focus.”

THRIVE

Your journey to mental well-being To help battle the stigma around mental health, we launched the THRIVE campaign to encourage associates to raise awareness and support themselves and others on their mental well-being journey. Throughout the campaign, fellow associates and executive leadership shared stories about their mental health journeys and started conversations on mental health. Each week was centered around a different way to improve your mental well-being: Mindfulness, sleep, positivity and resiliency. Associates could particpate through attending wellness classes, listening to podcasts, reading informational toolkits and more. “We deal with change constantly and this change comes as adversity sometimes, both in our personal and professional lives. Resiliency is an important life skill that helps us deal with adversity and thrive.”

“Sometimes all it takes is sharing your own story to get others to open up and know they are not alone.” Eva Karp Sr. VP & Chief Clinical & Patient Safety Officer

MyBrainSolutions Life gets busy, even overwhelming at times, but intentional focus on mindfulness and meditation can help to increase resilience and reduce stress. Cerner partners with MyBrainSolutions to offer associates access to online tools for mental gymnastics to work on skills, such as memory, concentration, resilience and alertness. The tool even provides solutions for practicing mindfulness and meditation. Try it out at mybrainsolutions.com/cerner.

In addition to benefitting from Motion Health programing, Bill Vega, technical project manager with Population Health, also participates in Mindful Minutes sessions. “Attending a Mindful Minutes session, especially those focused on mindful breathing techniques, is the best 15-minute investment I can make in myself during the day,” said Bill.

Healthe Minds manager toolkit In collaboration with the Healthe Clinic and Associate Relations, Healthe at Cerner developed the Healthe Minds manager toolkit as a practical guide for supplying managers with tools and resources needed to support associates from a brain-health perspective. “Our world, inside and outside of Cerner, is exponentially more complicated than it has ever been. This complexity requires a shared accountability to cope and to be healthy,” said Jerad Frey, director of Revenue Cycle Development. “The facts, resources and guidance available in the toolkit, and broadly in the behavioral health offerings from Cerner, will allow for a common understanding of this extremely important aspect of life. With broad awareness, we’ll be able to foster an environment that empowers and enables associates to deliver high levels of value while continually improving their overall health.”

Mindful Minutes Mindful Minutes are 15-minute telephonic sessions led by members from the Healthe Clinic and Healthe Fitness Center teams. “The sessions lead associates in meditation and mindfulness practices to help them reset stress response, improve sleep, increase feelings of well-being and much more,” said Erin Schepmann, Healthe Clinic senior wellness coach and leader of Mindful Minutes sessions.

Healthe at Cerner Center at Manyata Helping associates stay active, near and far

Associates in Bangalore witness the results of their healthy living efforts for the first time by using Cerner Millennium® in their Healthe Clinic. “This is our living lab where we are bringing health care providers and technology together to actively manage the health of our associates,” said Rama Nadimpalli, senior vice president and General Manager, Cerner India.

Associates in India can enjoy easy access to facilities that will help them improve their health. A symbol of Cerner’s commitment to improving the health and care of populations – starting with our own associates. On September 7, 2016, the Healthe at Cerner Center opened its doors on the ground floor of Cerner’s H2 Manyata office. “Being a population health care company, Cerner believes in knowing, engaging and managing the population,” said Arielle Bogorad, senior director, Worldwide Benefits, Wellness & Fitness.

Along with a Healthe Clinic and Healthe Fitness Center, the Healthe at Cerner Center offers associates ongoing, comprehensive wellness and educational programming across a broad spectrum of themes. “The Healthe at Cerner journey in Cerner India began in 2011 with labs, biometrics and flu vaccination events and continued growing to encompass nutrition consultations in 2014,” explained Prashanti Ambarish, center manager, Healthe at Cerner Center. “Education and awareness are the core foundation for driving Healthe at Cerner programs and services. A healthy lifestyle is key to mitigating the risks of disease many years down the line,” said Emma Tapscott, manager, Worldwide Wellness – Healthe at Cerner.

Armed with knowledge and tools, associates are empowered to manage their health and care and take steps to prevent diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Incremental changes in eating habits and movement can make a great impact on a healthy life. For Healthe Heroes like Palaniappan Sankar, knowledge architect, meeting the goals set by a nutritionist in an incremental manner with fitness training helps pave the way for a better, healthier lifestyle. In addition to the Healthe Clinic, the Healthe Fitness Center is a first of its kind at a

Cerner office outside of Kansas City. The Healthe Fitness Center is powered by state-of-the-art Technogym fitness equipment and technology. Associates can participate in challenges and see leaderboards as motivation to help them work toward their health goals. The equipment’s cloud-based technology allows associates to remotely engage with the fitness specialists in a personalized and scalable manner. Pradeep Premakumar, portfolio area leader for Bangalore, checks in at the Healthe at Cerner Center regularly to stay on track with his fitness goals. “Prior to the center, I used to work out thrice a week but did

not stick to a routine or a plan,” explained Pradeep. “I knew the opening of the center would help me become more disciplined with my workouts. I was happy to know that I could bring in some variation to my workout with the GroupX classes, and, of course, the variety of equipment at the Healthe at Cerner Center, which I like to call the Rolls Royce of gym equipment.” Pradeep participates in some of the GroupX classes, which motivates him to push and challenge himself more than he would on his own. “Because of my workout schedule and GroupX attendance, I am more conscious about my health and have certainly improved my strength and endurance, and I feel more energetic throughout the day. I have also started to eat healthier,” said Pradeep.

I also meet with the on-site nutritionist and physician to receive additional guidance and coaching.” As a night-shift associate, Sachin finds that going to the fitness center before work actually helps keep him more focused and active for his job role. “Cerner is going above and beyond to provide these world-class facilities to us,” Sachin said. “I encourage other Manyata associates to take advantage of this amazing service that’s right at our doorstep.”

Healthier communities In this final chapter, you’ll read how our communities support and encourage healthier lifestyles.

Healthe Heroes Live every day like a hero Seeing your coworkers and friends make healthier choices and lifestyle changes can be a powerful motivator to inspire changes of your own. We like to call those inspiring individuals Healthe Heroes. Are you or someone you know a Healthe Hero? A Healthe Hero is an associate who takes actions, whether big or small, to live a healthier life and inspires others to do the same. No matter where one is along his or her wellness journey, a Healthe Hero feels empowered to make positive changes in life and is constantly striving to achieve an optimal level of health while inspiring others. It could be as simple as taking the stairs or packing a healthy snack or as large as training to run a marathon. Know someone who exemplifies these attributes? Visit the Healthe at Cerner uCern group to nominate a fellow associate for this recognition. By exhibiting healthy behaviors on a daily basis, even while on the road, Steve Pirone, vice president of Cerner Health Services Consulting Operations, was nominated as a Healthe Hero. However, not so long ago, Steve had very different health habits. As a traveling associate, he didn’t follow the best diet or workout routine. Then, out of nowhere, his daughter told him something that inspired him to take action. Watch Steve’s full story at connect.ucern.com/videos/44103. Bone Marrow Donation Tyler Jacobs’ Story

What if you could give someone a second chance at life? According to DKMS, a nonprofit that focuses on eliminating blood cancer, every three minutes in the U.S., someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, for which a bone marrow transplant may be the only chance for survival. However, finding a genetic match for someone in need can be difficult with six out of 10 patients unable to find a compatible donor. Cerner partners with DKMS to offer on-site bone marrow donation registry drives to help find those genetic matches. The more individuals on the registry, the better the chances for those in need. After coming across an article about how to become a bone marrow donor, Cerner associate Tyler Jacobs started looking further into the topic and, without much hesitation, decided to register. “I felt the call to help, so I did it,” said Tyler. “How often can you so easily give something back knowing that you are helping a real family? You could literally be saving a life.” And Tyler did receive that call to help. Twice. Within a few months of registering, Tyler received a call that he had been matched to a man in his 50s with a form of leukemia.

65

This particular case ended up not working out as they went with another match candidate. But a little over a year later, Tyler found out he was matched again, this time, to an infant with a rare autoimmune disorder. “My reaction both times was surprise,” recalled Tyler. “When you get the call, things kind of slow down. You can feel the adrenaline surge, and your mind starts racing.” When Tyler received the call about the infant, he knew he had to help. After going through what seemed like endless amounts of blood work, having a physical, EKG and chest X-rays done, the results determined Tyler was healthy enough to donate. He then scheduled a date for donation, undergoing an outpatient surgical procedure to extract the bone marrow. “I think the moment it all became real was when I was lying in bed waiting to go back for the surgery,” said Tyler. “My humility always hates admitting that you really do feel like a hero lying there. Every nurse you meet is thanking you and telling you what a great thing you’re doing. The doctors are all super supportive and encouraging. Even the lady who would eventually carry the bone marrow to the helicopter and take it to the receiving hospital to be given to my recipient came down and thanked me. It was humbling and elevating at the same time.”

GET INS PIRE D – H E ALTH IE R CO MMU NITIE S

The bone marrow registry followed up with Tyler after the surgery to make sure all was OK and to answer any questions or address concerns. They communicated with Tyler, although intentionally vaguely, to let him know of the crucial milestones the child achieved at one week, one month, six months – even a year after donation. After that year had passed, the recipient’s family reached out to Tyler directly to share photos with him. Tyler hopes to eventually meet them face to face. Tyler encourages others to take the step to join the registry. “The greatest benefit of this entire process is knowing that there is a family that is whole and a little boy who can fully enjoy life because of me taking a little time and a few small risks. That is worth it. You can be the cure.”

Between 2009-2017, Cerner registered nearly 1,500 individuals for the DKMS donor registry. Of

Heroes come in all (blood) types Cerner associates continue to show their passion to help save lives with our quarterly on-site blood drives in Kansas City and Malvern. Since 2014, we have nearly doubled our annual blood donations to the American Red Cross and Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City. In 2017 alone, our associates donated nearly 1,600 units of blood. Estimates suggest a single blood donation may save up to three lives. This means our associates may have donated enough life-saving blood to over 4,500 patients in need.

those registered, 13 were matches and went on to donate.

First Hand Healthe communities

Empowering communities to achieve better health The complexity and cost of the health care system can be baffling. The system can be so overwhelming that some individuals – insured or not – ignore chronic conditions or disregard indicators that their health is deteriorating. This delay in managing health makes it more likely that issues will become critical, requiring expensive and extensive reactive care. The First Hand Foundation’s Healthe Communities program proactively addresses the health needs of a population by offering complimentary, confidential and convenient wellness screenings to adults and children alike. Healthe Communities is proud to partner with St. Sabina Parish to partner with the Healthe Communities program to provide its parishioners with a comprehensive wellness center for its health and wellness needs – at no cost. “Our role is to make sure people can navigate the health care system and be active in their own health. Because of the programming we’ve put in place at St. Sabina, there is now a growing level of awareness, and people are more present with improving their health,” said Jeannine Midgett, director of the wellness center at St. Sabina. “The center helps to remove the obstacles people face when trying to focus on their health.”

67

As part of the wellness center at St. Sabina, health screenings are offered as an important first step, but active follow-ups and support are what make Healthe Communities most effective. Post-screening visits with a health coach help individuals truly understand the results of their screening. The coach provides recommendations to address any conditions that were revealed and makes connections to appropriate care providers in the community. This added guidance removes uncertainty and confusion and gives each individual a clear plan to implement. The center offers a variety of wellness programming, including health education classes, fitness classes and other special events, all empowering participants to proactively take charge of their well-being. Check out inspiring stories from parishioners who took advantage of the wellness center at St. Sabina to manage their health at firsthandfoundation.org/programs/healthe-communities.
