EVENTS CALENDAR Inspiring 2017 ARTISTRY

Message from our ARTWORK artistic director

Thank you to all our supporters:

173mm high x 148mm wide (plus 3mm full Dearbleed) Music Lovers, Welcome to our 2017 Events Calendar. This year we have a broad range of exciting and inspiring concerts and workshops. Our major production of Central Coast Opera’s Carmen by Bizet will build on the wonderful footings laid down by Help. Help. The Globolinks! and The Magic Flute. These previous operas were both incredibly successful and this year’s production of Carmen, at the Laycock Street Community Theatre, will raise the bar to the next level. This production is a must see event so be sure to make a night of it with family and friends. We are very privileged and delighted to have Andrey Gugnin, winner of the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition include us on his national tour. Thanks to Steinway & Sons and the Conservatorium, you will experience Andrey’s artistry on the same instrument that was used at the competition in one stunning performance here on the coast in early July. If you’ve never been to one of our Premier Ensembles concerts, come along and hear our top students performing in our large ensembles at the end of each term. These young musicians are an inspiration to behold and we are very proud to showcase them to the public. We look forward to seeing you supporting the Coast’s musicians of the future at these concerts. The Crossroads Festival of Chamber Music returns with a tribute to Richard Goldner. Romanian-born Jewish immigrant Goldner founded Sydney Musica Viva to promote chamber music in his adoptive home. 25 years later Musica Viva is still running strong,

presenting concerts and musical presentations in schools around Australia. In 2017 we have switched to online ticketing so you can purchase your tickets any time, anywhere. We believe this is the way forward for concert goers and we hope you enjoy a smooth transition with our electronic ticketing. We look forward to seeing you, your family and friends become part of a wonderful, diverse and fulfilling musical experience by visiting the Conservatorium and our associated venues in 2017. Can the Harrigans save their family tradition or will the Animal Activists destroy the greyhound industry?

by Dorian Mode

Central Coast jazz artist/writer and dog lover Dorian Mode has been feverishly writing his hilarious script for a new musical based on the Harrigans, whose world is turned upside down after a Four Corners exposé on the Greyhound Racing industry. Will their boy find love with the local animal activist, will the stirrers uncover a mass grave, or will there be happy endings all round. A story of love and sleeping with the enemy where the audience gets to tell the writer what works, what needs work and build a musical for professional production. Under Dorian’s watchful eye, the actors, with a 10-piece ensemble of Conservatorium music teachers of the highest calibre, will workshop this comical satire. Don’t miss this WORLD PREMIERE READING of Dorian Mode’s new work DishLickers! The Musical.

CONCERT 3

MOZART REQUIEM The towering magnificence of the Requiem of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: a cornerstone of the classical repertoire (and yet one veiled in speculation, myth, untruths and half-truths) grips the listener and performers alike, in awe of its beauty. The wonderful sacred space and acoustics of St John the Baptist is the ideal location for what promises to be a memorable finale to the 2017 concert season.
