Newsletter Submission Deadline If you, or your group, would like to place an article, meeting time, thank you note, etc. in the newsletter, please remember to submit to the office by the 20th of the prior month. I am thankful! There are so many things that I could name for which I am thankful. Many of them are not material items, but rather people. When I begin to think about how thankful I am, I can only turn to God and give Him the glory. He has blessed me in so many ways. Now, I’m not going to name all the ways I am blessed or all the people who are a blessing to me (surely, I would forget to mention someone and get in trouble). When I pray each day, I usually use an acrostic to guide my prayers: A.C.T.S. The “A” stands for Adoration. I spend a few minutes in adoration of God, i.e. what He has done, who He is, and how He works. “C” stands for Confession. I have to take a little more time here as I talk with God about my shortcomings and ways to overcome my failures. The “S” stands for Supplications, which are requests that I make to God for Him to do something. As a pastor, I pray for a lot of people, so this takes a while. You may have noticed I skipped the “T.” Well, that stands for Thanksgiving. I spend some time here most days, also. This is really an area where I am so often amazed. When I think about all that God is doing in my family, in our church, and just in my life in general, I can’t help but be grateful. God works so many ways in our lives that perhaps we often take Him for granted. When I am feeling down or having a difficult time, it is uplifting to take a few minutes and thank Him for His many blessings. I hope you will do the same. Think through all aspects of your life, family, career, community, hobbies, special interests, etc. You will begin to notice some blessings you probably haven’t thought about. I heard about a woman who was very tired one night and at the end of a long day, she was overheard by one of her family members, praying this prayer: Thank You Lord, for all the dirty dishes, it means I had company for dinner. Thank You Lord, for all the laundry I had to do today, it means my family is still here with me. Thank You Lord, for the carpet being dirty it means I have had a lot of guests. Thank You Lord, for house-cleaning that needs to be done, it means I have a warm place to live. Thank You Lord, that I have to get up early in the morning and go to work, it means I have a paycheck that I can cover my bills. Thank You Lord,… And on and on she went. This prayer certainly puts a whole new perspective on things for me. If you think about it, we do have a lot to be thankful for. Our country has created a day which we set aside for thankfulness which we call Thanksgiving Day. For so many, it’s about taking a day or two off, eating a bunch of food, and watching football. All of these things are fine, but let’s remember the real reason we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a day that we should set aside to be thankful to the Lord. In many parts of the world, there is so much turmoil. We all go through seasons in life where we have trouble and problems, but no matter what we have going on, we can still find a number of areas where we can thank the Lord. My heart overflows with thankfulness and I can only pray, “Thank You Lord, for being You and for loving me; for providing all the friends and family I have to enjoy life with; for Central Christian Church and all the folks that impact me regularly through their love, generosity and faithful service to you; for forgiving my sins and promising me a place in eternity with You. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.” Love, Grace, & Peace,

Pastor Mark

Kris' o r n e r

As I sit and write this article, I can’t help but reflect on the fact it’s been eight years since I began ministry here at Central. If you would have told the 20-year-old version of me that eight years later, I would be sitting here in this same office, I’m not sure I would have believed you.

I can’t begin to tell you how much Central means to me. It’s the church that taught me how to take my faith seriously. It’s the church that took me in as one of its own. It’s the church that taught me how important it is to serve and give back with the talents God gifted me with. It’s the church that took a chance on a college kid who was pursuing music ministry. It’s the church that established a foundation of faith, not only for me, but for my brother, who will graduate from Johnson University in 2020 to pursue a career in ministry. It’s the church where I met my wife and it’s also the church our growing family plans to call home for the foreseeable future. As we approach this season of Thanksgiving, I wanted to take just a moment to reflect on how thankful I am for this place. I’m thankful for the opportunity to work here and grow closer to Jesus. I’m thankful for my family and friends, many of whom are also a part of this church. I’m thankful for our staff, our volunteers, our elders and deacons, and anyone who plays a role in making this church run smoothly. After spending lots of time with my firstborn son, it’s easy to find myself reflecting on the many blessings God has given me. You certainly don’t have to be a new parent to get there for yourself. Be sure to focus and reflect on the many blessings in our lives during this season. May we be ever grateful for the goodness of God and may He continue to bless your life. Until next time, Kris
