It is a new year! We always seem to think about fresh beginnings this time of year. Many people use the new year as a time of reflection and refocus. Diet plans are formulated and gym memberships skyrocket as people think about getting fit. Some folks reevaluate their financial situation and develop a new budget. Goals are set at work to make this a better year than last year. It seems this time of year we always think about physical health, mental health, financial health, emotional health, etc. What about “spiritual health,” have you thought about that lately? The CCC staff and I have been discussing spiritual health and we want to place focus on that this year. We want to have a spiritually healthy church which means we must have some spiritually healthy people attending the church. Not everyone will be as spiritually healthy as they could be because we are all at different levels of spiritual maturity. All of us, however, can work on and strive to improve our spiritual health. We are going to kick this year off with a sermon series to help us get focused on spiritual health. It is going to be a great series and it is for folks who have been in church for a long time and for those who haven’t been in a while. Let’s face it, for some, the American church has been given a bad name. Whether you’ve never been to church, had a bad church experience, or have been attending church your entire life, we’ve all heard stories that tend to make us cringe. We believe it’s time to rediscover what the church is supposed to be about. Christ commissioned the church as a community of people, gathering to worship regularly, grow spiritually, serve humbly, give generously, and find encouragement to live faithfully. Our new sermon series, entitled Rediscovering Church, will begin on January 6th. We want as many people as possible to “rediscover” what church should be and for all of us to join together to make it happen. We invite you to join us in January as we begin the rediscovery process together. Throughout this seven-week series, we will focus on the true purpose and mission of the church. No matter how many times we’ve stepped into a church building, we can all use a refresher on why the church exists. Please use the Rediscovering Church invitation cards (available at the Welcome Center) to invite others to join us on Sunday mornings. Please begin to pray about who you might invite and make plans to be here each Sunday. Make it one of your goals this year to work on your spiritual health. Love, Grace & Peace,

Pastor Mark

Happy New Year!

Are you feeling refreshed? I know I am! Christmas is such a busy time for all of us, especially around the church. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their hard work in making this Christmas season so special. The Adult Choir program was fantastic! I heard many of you say it’s one of the best the choir has ever done. Great job, choir! A Very Merry Hillside was a smashing success as well. We had tons of fun worshiping with you, giving away some Christmas prizes, and we can’t forget the cookies and hot cocoa! The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service was also such a great way to wrap up our special services. We hope you enjoyed this annual Central tradition. It takes so many people to make events like this happen so smoothly. Thank you for your dedication in making it such a great time of year!

As we shift gears into yet another new year, I wanted to talk a little bit about our theme for 2019. Each year, we sit down and discuss where we feel God is leading us in the coming year. Two years ago, we felt called to focus on being “DEVOTED” Disciples of Christ. You remember? Worship, Grow, Serve, Give, and Live! In 2018, we celebrated 50 Years of Ministry at Melrose and we went “back to the basics”. This year, we are asking you to join us on yet another challenging mission. Our theme for 2019 comes from one of Paul’s most popular passages from the book of Romans: (Romans 12:1-2)

This is a difficult challenge to accept. Paul says IF we can accept this challenge, then we “will be able to test and approve what God’s will is”! Have you ever wanted to be sure of God’s will? Paul says this is possible if we live as living sacrifices and don’t conform to the pattern of this world. Our focus in 2019 is to heed Paul’s advice to the Romans. “…be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind. (v. 2)” Throughout this year, we will be focusing on how we can be TRANSFORMED in Christ! We are excited to go on this journey with you. May God bless you and your family during the New Year! Until next time, Kris

Matt’s Moment Matt Mosher, Minister of Youth & Connection Kori, Elliana, and I are so excited to get here and be here! A little bit about the Mosher family. Kori and I met on eHarmony. It’s a great story about finding a Godly woman, and there’s lots Welcome Mosher Family! of fun little stories, like Kori buying me a pound of the best coffee I’ve ever had on our first date! We started dating in March 2014, and got married on April 23rd, 2016. Our cute bundle of joy, Elliana, was born on Sept 9, 2018. Our lives have been forever changed, and her smiles and noises make me smile daily :). I like technology, but I have to limit myself with it otherwise I would get sucked in and waste a ton of time! I am a board game nerd, and roped Kori into becoming one, too! Growing up, I played soccer and baseball into MS and HS. I also was in band until 8th grade. I am 31 years old, but most people wouldn’t guess it because I am a jokester and love having a good time! People also say I look young, but those comments are disappearing as the years pass. Our family likes the organic and natural route of living… which I am still learning what that means. One of my life goals is to be a jack of all trades kind of guy. I learned to do work on my cars. Next is woodworking. And after that, who knows? When it comes to the church, I am passionate about discipleship. Jesus was all about transformation on a personal level through loving on and challenging individuals. JANUARY 11–13 It’s a beautiful and messy ride! I strive to imitate Jesus in my life and ministry I can’t wait to walk alongside y’all! We look forward to finalizing (or having final- Please be in prayer for our students and leaders as they participate in the Tennessee ized by the time you read it) our transition January 1st! Thanks and blessings, Matt Mosher.

Clothing Pantry During the 2018, our clothing pantry provided clothes to 211 families, totaling 681 people. This ministry is a great blessing to all who donate clothing items, volunteer to wash, sort, and work in the pantry, and to all the families that receive these needed items. We look forward to 2019! Currently, we are in need of men’s jeans & casual pants (all sizes) and ladies and men’s athletic shoes. Thank you for your support! Thank you to everyone who participated in CCC’s Angel Tree this year. We were able to provide a wonderful Christmas to 12 children. Your generous support makes this program successful. A special thanks goes out to Donna Allen and Teresa Hagy for heading up the program this year.
