Life Groups start back this month. “What’s a Life Group?” I’m glad you asked. A Life Group at Central is a small group of people that meet at various times and places. The purpose of the groups is fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. The schedule on the front page of this month’s newsletter shows where each group meets and who acts as group facilitator. We would like to have every person who attends Central be part of a life group. All you have to do is show up and attend one of the groups. The ideal size for a group is about 8-15 people. As you can see from the schedule on the front page, we currently have seven groups that meet. As we get more people involved, we hope to expand the number of groups. Most of our groups meet at the church. There are four groups that meet at the church on Wednesday nights following the fellowship meal. One group meets in the CCC fellowship hall on the first and third Sunday nights of the month. Two groups meet off-site, one at the home of Pat and Leigh Hull, and one geared mostly toward young adults, at the home of Kris and Cooper Mangrum. When the groups meet, they engage in a time of fellowship, followed by a prayer time and then they participate in some sort of Bible study and spiritual discussion. This is a great time to get to know other people from the church, to explore spiritual questions, and to learn more about the Bible. We live in a culture that is becoming more and more biblically illiterate. Jesus instructed us to “make disciples.” A disciple is a devoted follower of Christ and devoted followers should have a good knowledge of the Scriptures. In August, several of the Life Groups are going to use a book that will help people gain a greater understanding of the Bible and what Christianity is all about. This new book is called Core 52. It is written with the idea that if you will study one short passage of scripture each week for one year (52 weeks), then you will have a much greater biblical knowledge. It takes only fifteen minutes a day, five days a week to gain a strong biblical perspective of the most important themes of the Bible. Mark Moore, the author of the book, has chosen what he calls the 52 most power packed passages in the Bible to build your Bible IQ in a year. Look at the schedule on the front of the newsletter to find the groups that are going to begin studying this book in August. I hope you will involve yourself in one of our life groups. Who knows, eventually you may become a group facilitator and help us start some new groups and reach more people with the message of the Bible. God bless you all and please pray that our Life Groups will be effective in helping folks gain a greater understanding of the Bible and reach more people. Love, Grace, & Peace,
Kris' o r n e r
Back in the swing of things…
For many of us, summer is a nice break from the norm. Whether it’s going on vacation or spending more time with family, we all appreciate some change from time to time. As much as I love the summer, there’s a part of me that can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. When the calendar turns to August, routine is the first word that comes to mind. The kids are heading back to school, vacations are mostly over, and our activities here at Central begin to return to normal.
With that said, our Adult Choir rehearsals are about to ramp back up beginning on Wednesday, July 31. Our normal rehearsals will take place at 7 PM each Wednesday but we will meet at 7:30 PM on July 31, due to the Encounter service we are holding. Each year around this time, it’s important to let you know that this is the perfect time to join our choir.
ELDERS David Hacker, Chairman John Culp Joel Faidley Dennis Holbrook Bill Parker Eric Reecher
Whether you have experience in a choir or not, there is always room for more singers! Currently, our choir has a mixture of those who do read music and some who don’t. We go at a fairly easy pace so that everyone can learn together. On top of weekly rehearsals, our choir typically sings one special selection during the traditional service every week. We will also soon begin to prepare for our Christmas program, which will take place on December 22 this year. If you have an interest in singing and/or learning more about the choir, this is your opportunity.
Pat Hull Larry O’Bryant Bill Parker Bob Parker Don Smith
If you are interested in joining the choir, please don’t hesitate to talk to me about it. Feel free to drop me an email as well at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. I hope you and your family had a great summer break! We are praying for all of you as we transition back into more of a normal routine!
Until next time, Kris

Our family wishes to thank you for your outpouring of love through your prayers, visits, phone calls, flowers, cards and gifts while mom was in the hospital and hospice. The meal was superb.
