Mark’s Minute . . . STAFF Easter is one of my favorite times of year. It’s a wonderful time of year, the weather is changing, the flowers are blooming, the days are longer, and there is great excitement around the church. People who don’t regularly attend church are often looking for a place they can attend on Easter Sunday. We have a great schedule of events planned and you can read all about them in Kris’s article.

Newsletter Submission Deadline If you, or your group, would like to place an article, meeting time, thank you note, etc. in the newsletter, please remember to submit to the office by the 20th of the prior month. Submissions received after the 20th will not be included in the upcoming month’s newsletter. Thank you for your cooperation!

Easter is always a good time to invite friends and family that don’t have a home church to come visit Central. Our programs are always well done and we offer a variety of events for all ages. Many of you have asked, “What can I do?” and I have come up with an answer. It’s simple, “invite” people to come be part of what we are doing. There is a simple way to approach someone to invite them to participate. This works with people who are outside the church or with people who are already attending on Sunday morning, but haven’t plugged in to anything else. Here’s a simple way to “Invite:” 1) Introduce yourself – Tell them your name and then listen for them to respond back with their name. Repeat their name back to them, so you make sure you get it right. 2) Initiate a conversation – Ask if they live close by, if they attend church, or if they plan to go to church for Easter, etc. If you are speaking to a person who is already at Central, you might ask if this is their first time here, if they know anyone here, or if they have any questions about the church. 3) Invite them – If the person you engage is outside the church, be prepared to tell them about the events we have going on during the Easter season. Let them know about the 9:00am and 11:00am services and what they can expect. If you are greeting someone who is already at our church, invite them to join you for Sunday school or to come to our Wednesday night meal and Life Groups. We want to reach all kinds of people with the Good News of the Gospel. Inviting them to church or inviting them to participate in a small group of some kind will go a long way toward helping them engage in the life of the church. The three “I’s” mentioned above (Introduce, Initiate, Invite), are a simple way to start a conversation with someone that could change their life. I don’t know about you, but it makes me feel good when I help someone discover something that affects them in a positive way. God wants to use all of us to help reach the world with Christ’s message of good news, hope, and eternal life. Let’s begin to pray for the upcoming Easter season, that we will reach out to many people, that many will respond to the invitation, and that lives will be changed through Jesus Christ. Please take time to remember this simple formula: How Can I help? Introduce Initiate Invite Love, Grace, & Peace,

Pastor Mark

Easter is almost here!

As we approach the Easter season, we have several programs planned at Central. Here is some more information about the special events we’ll be hosting this year: th

On Wednesday, April 17 , we will host Easter Family Fun Night. Join us at 5:30 PM for the regular fellowship meal but stick around for lots of fun. Beginning around 6:30 PM, we will be playing games, decorating Easter lanterns, and there will even be an Easter egg hunt for children! This will be an inter-generational event as all adult, youth, and children’s classes will come together for the evening!

On Friday, April 19th, we will have our annual Good Friday Hillside service. The service will begin at 7 PM and we’ll hear a message from guest speaker Micah Magee, student at Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee. Micah was scheduled to be with us for the Christmas Hillside until it was postponed due to snow. We will also be incorporating the Easter lanterns from Easter Family Fun Night. You won’t want to miss this special service as we focus on finding hope in the midst of struggle. Finally, on Sunday, April 21st, we will be on a normal schedule for Easter Sunday. Though it is a regular schedule, both services will have special elements. Also, we will have a booth set up for your family to have a nice family portrait made in your Easter best! We hope you plan to join us this Easter season as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ! Remember, this is a perfect opportunity to invite someone to church! Until next time, Kris

7th Annual Public Safety Appreciation Lunch

This campus ministry to the students of ETSU functions with the expectation of providing opportunities for peers to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through sharing experiences. Our weekly activities achieve this. Each Wednesday evening we worship together with Jesuscentric teaching as we reinforce New Testament theology. For the fall 2018 semester we applied some of the stories told by Jesus in the Gospels. This spring we have turned the conversation to the letter to the Hebrews. Our free Tuesday lunch provides an important social opportunity for students to interact casually during the middle of a common day, often inviting friends who have no other Christian connection. Local congregations cater this meal. We offer several excellent, staff-led small group Bible studies each semester as well as weekly service projects, semester retreats, and missions projects. Those details can be found on our freshly updated website. We have worked to build friendships with international students, particularly by hosting WORLD CAFÉ, a Friday night hang-out at our Campus House. We welcomed many students from several nations this past semester. During any given week, we estimate that one hundred different students come through the Campus House at least once. Several enter multiple times.

Missions Corner

The CSF staff changed recently. In the fall, we added Katy Woodward to fill a part-time (30 hours/week) vacancy that Trivia Eggers had created when she moved. Also, the Advisory Board determined to bring the status of our international student minister from self-funded to permanent, while remaining at 20 hours/week. Every semester CSF employs a student intern to work in various ministry capacities for the group. We also have an intern to help with international ministry and a seminary student as a super- intern. Our Servant Team of five men and women assumes responsibility for the spiritual maturity of their younger peers. As the spring 2019 semester concludes, please continue praying for us as we commit to being in the right place at the right time for this crucial generation -- even through the summer.

Join Our Team! We are currently accepting applications for additional paid nursery attendants. See Stephanie Boyles for more information.
