Dr. Paul Goddard Missions Pastor

A HEART FOR THE HURTIN In Matthew’s Gospel (Matthew 25:31–46) Jesus told a parable about His return and His subsequent “judgment of the nations.” This passage tells us that the criterion He uses for separating the “sheep from the goats,” for determining the eternal destination of those who stand before Him is “...inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to Me.” (vs. 40) The Missions Ministry of our church has been partners with Union Rescue Mission (URM), a local ministry to the homeless, for more than 21 years. The Executive Director of URM, Dennis Bender, recently sent us a report on their accomplishments this past year. In 2017 URM provided: •

More than 95,000 meals

Safe shelter for an average of 116 homeless individuals each night in our facilities

The Gospel message which led 221 men to commit their lives to Jesus

Bible study and pastoral care where the love and grace of Jesus Christ is offered freely to hurting individuals

Countless hours of education and job-skills training

Coats, shirts, gloves, pants, jackets, shoes and other essential clothing to chase away the cold. He concludes by thanking supporters for their continuing and faithful partnership that “...demonstrates a deep concern for people in our community who struggle with daily essentials and are burdened by overwhelming challenges.”
