WELCOME I am delighted to welcome you to the fifth season of our concert series, “Passport to Worlds of Music.” Every year we curate a selection of world music and dance traditions deeply grounded in the cultures and regions from which they come. We showcase artists that preserve these traditions in the modern world through live performance. This year we are presenting six concerts that include the music of Cape Verde, South Korea, Senegal, Mexico, South India, and Poland. We hope you enjoy the CWM’s 2019–20 musical tour. And we thank you for your support and enthusiasm.

MISSION & VISION The Center for World Music fosters intercultural awareness and understanding through in-depth encounters with the world’s performing arts traditions. We envision a world that celebrates cross-cultural understanding, respect, communication, and healing through the performing arts traditions of cultures around the globe.

CWM PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY Access for Special Populations Access to the Performing Arts for Seniors presents the world’s music and dance on location in affordable housing facilities for seniors with limited access to cultural enrichment.

Odissi Dance School In collaboration with the Orissa Dance Academy (Odisha, India), the CWM brings visiting artists from India to San Diego for extended teaching residencies facilitated through our Odissi Dance School.

Public Concerts & Programming The CWM works closely with community partners to bring vibrant world music and dance presentations to locations that serve San Diego residents. Our partners include museums, libraries, parks, and nonprofits supporting the public good.

IN THE SCHOOLS The CWM’s World Music in the Schools program facilitates crosscultural learning opportunities in the performing arts traditions of the world, bringing master artists to teach in pre-K–12 San Diego area schools.

YOUR SUPPORT The world's performing arts should not be limited to those lucky enough to travel. The Center for World Music brings in-depth encounters with these traditions home to San Diego to enrich all of us, young and old. Your support brings artists representing musical and dance traditions from around the world to children and adults faced with economic or physical limitations.
