EELGRASS // Tiburon, CA Abstracting the formal language and behavior of eelgrass into a structural system. Allowing this new structure to grow from an old military site overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Circulation, exhibits, and a lecture hall weave between preserved walls of the existing building and eelgrass structure. These new growths serve as atriums and terraces that connect all levels. PUBLIC RIFT // Minneapolis, MN Three theaters stacked vertically, each attracting a different demographic group. Narrow, triple-height “rifts� allow for moments of visual connection between audiences and performers when crossing between theater, backstage, and lobby. Snaking through the rift is a public elevated walkway, allowing non-paying members of the community a glimpse into the workings of the theater. PAUSE // Ontario Ridge, CA Three nodes, all connected by a path, offer opportunities for mindfulness in prepartion for a Buddhist meditation center that awaits at the end of the trail. This delibarate lengthening of the path invites reflective thought. The nodes themselves have moveable pieces that encourage interaction on the part of the user. UNVEILED // San Jose, CA Rebuilding the relationship between the police and their community. A two-story vertical moving “veil” made of polycarbonate panels allows the station to take on four different “modes” with varying levels of public access. Moments are carefully crafted around this veil at different times throughout the day to create a variety of experiences that engage the public. Winter 2016, Brian Osborn Studio
