Poland Christmas in Poland begins with the vigil. It is the time when the

family

gathers

to

celebrate

the

birth

of

Christ.

When

everyone is seated at the table they cut the traditional bread called "oplatek" (a wafer) and wish health and happiness for the coming year. At least 12 dishes (for the twelve apostles) are prepared and also sweets and candy canes. December 6th is special for children. It is the day of St. Nicholas. This
