About This Catalog Eanes ISD’s Community Education Programs are dedicated to providing quality education in a variety of subjects to students of all ages. We offer many diverse classes, fulfilling both academic and recreational needs. Please take a moment to look through this catalog to see the classes offered this Fall. Our classes offer opportunities to pick up a new hobby, make new friends in the Eanes community, and improve personal skills and knowledge. Your support of Community Education also gives back to our schools. All profits from the Child Development Center, Eanes After School Youth Care and Enrichment Courses are returned to the district. Since 1999 we have contributed over 3 million dollars to EISD’s general fund! The success and interest of our programs depends upon meeting the continuously changing needs and interests of our community. Barton Creek Elementary Computers, Engineering and Chess Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® Engineering - Transportation Timeline Students build a centrifuge, space robot, satellite, and more! Our one-hour classes explore science, technology, engineering, and math [STEM] concepts using LEGO® bricks. Girls and boys are paired up and construct a new model each week. Students experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models using LEGO® bricks, batteries, motors, and controls. Kids learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, weather, & MORE! Students will explore the history and development of transportation. Each child builds a custom LEGO® mini-figure, uses it throughout the session, and keeps it! Taught by: Bricks 4 Kidz

Bricks 4 KidZ LEGO® Engineering - Gadgets & Gizmos Students build a paper crinkler, spin art, and more! Our one-hour classes explore science, technology, engineering, and math [STEM] concepts using LEGO® bricks. Girls and boys are paired up and construct a new model each week. Students experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models using LEGO® bricks, batteries, motors, & controls. Kids learn about everything from gears, torque and friction, to geography, weather, & MORE! This series introduces students to friction and symmetry with a spinning top lesson. Each child builds a custom LEGO® mini-figure, uses it throughout the session, and keeps it! Taught by: Bricks 4 KidZ

Engineering FUNdamentals w/ LEGO® - Play-well TEKnologies Students explore concepts of physics, architecture, mechanical and structural engineering from gear cars to battle tracks. The engineer-designed curriculum challenges new and returning students to reach higher levels of engineering comprehension. Taught by: Angel Gonzalez

KidBuilderZ - Let’s Build Stuff! - Session 1 KidBuilderZ kids get to build cool projects then watch them rocket hundreds of feet into the air, go screaming down a dragstrip or even become a home for a family of birds. With training and supervision from a journeyman KidBuilderZ instructor, your kids will actually learn new skills as they create something that lasts. In this class, students will build a water-rocket, airplane, solid-fuel rocket, windmill and other fun projects! Taught by: KidbuilderZ

KidBuilderZ - Let’s Build Stuff! - Session 2 KidBuilderZ kids build cool projects then watch them rocket hundreds of feet into the air, go screaming down a dragstrip or even become a home for a family of birds. With training and supervision from a journeyman KidBuilderZ instructor, your kids will build six cool projects that each embodies a different set of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) principles. In this session, we will build: dragsters, solarpowered cars, catapults, a life-size hovercraft and other fun projects. Taught by: KidbuilderZ

Instructional Chess with Active Learning USA Chess is the largest Chess instruction organization in Texas. We have been teaching children in over 60 schools since 1997. Our experienced tournament players teach children of all abilities to improve their games in a fun, interesting way. Classes consist of a half hour of lesson with a half hour of practice play. Music, Art and Science Clay Magic! Looking for something fun to do after school? Come and join Mrs. Vendetti’s Clay Magic class. Create imaginary critters, diorama, pots, and lots of other fun stuff! Group Guitar 101

A beginner level course for learning guitar basics. Students will learn how to read music notation and tablature notation. Students will learn to play major, minor and dominant chords. Students will learn to play classic melodies as well as melodies of their choice from their favorite contemporary artist. Taught by: Patrick White

Abrakadoodle Art Education Join us for the award-winning Abrakadoodle program, the popular favorite with kids and parents! Students will continue their multi-media, multi-cultural journey learning about master and contemporary artists, while learning basic drawing skills, painting, sculpting, creating fantastic collages and more! Come join the art-filled fun! 6 classes each session. Taught by: Abrakadoodle

Mad Science: Morphin’ Molecules Our approach to science is fun, hands-on, and incorporates the educational standards required by the STAAR test. We are offering an awesome session that will include the following topics: PH Phactor, Che-Mystery, Glow Show, Dry Ice Capades, Harnessing Heat and Junior Reactors! Join the fun and become a junior “Mad Scientist”. Taught by: Mad Science of Austin Wed. 2:45 - 4:15

Little Blue Jay Singers - Second graders

The Little Blue Jay’s is open to Second grade students only at Barton Creek Elementary. The fall session for choir will start on Thursday, Sept 26th at 2:45 - 3:45 p.m. and will end on Thursday, Dec 13th 2013. The choir is for those students who like to sing, act, dance, with lots of wonderful costumes. We will rehearse every Thursday and have a holiday show at the Hill Galleria on Friday Dec 6th and on Tuesday, Dec 10th at Barton Creek Elementary! Come Sing and Swing with the Little Blue Jays! Blue Jay Singers - Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders The Blue Jay Singers is open to all Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students at Barton Creek Elementary. The choir is for students who like to sing, dance, act, and perform with lots of wonderful costuming. Sports and Fitness Peace, Love, and Yoga Fun - (K - 5th grade) We integrate playful yoga with creative self-expression by incorporating storytelling, yogic journeys around the world, and music. Yoga sequences created in this class develop strength, coordination, and body awareness. Fun breathing exercises, simple balancing poses and relaxation are introduced to give your child important skills that last a lifetime. Taught by: The Little Yoga House Mon. 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Qi gong for School Children - Move the Body and Focus the Mind Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese system of postures, exercises, breathing, techniques and visualizations. Designed to improve and enhance energy, focus, and mental relaxation. Chanelle and Deanne will lead you through a series of exercises. postures and meditation in a fun and caring environment. Qi gong benefits allergies, headaches, tight muscles, fatigue, digestion, insomnia, anxiety, depression and more. Taught by: Deanne Rose Wed. 3:30 - 4:30

Developmental Volleyball Skills Bump, set, spike! For our young elementary level players we develop a solid base of fundamental skills as well as a passion for the sport. Each class will include stretches, warm-up drills, and teaching the game and the basic skills to new students while at the same time correcting and perfecting the technique of the more experienced players. Emphasis is on teaching the values of good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting and skill development in a fun, esteem-promoting atmosphere. Taught by: West Austin Volleyball Wed. 2:45 - 4:15 p.m.

Golf in Schools USA - Golf For Life! Golf for Life is a comprehensive program that teaches skills for golf, and skills for life. With high-energy activities, students receive in-depth training in golf fundamentals, as well as develop critical traits like teamwork, goal-setting, and striving for their personal best. Our highly-developed, four-tiered curriculum is designed to make learning golf fun for every child! Students who have taken this class will progress through our Star Levels and improve their skills! Flip Flying Fun Tumbling Students progress through strength and flexibility skills, locomotor and coordination skills, creative movement with props, and a variety of tumbling skills. Utilizing a creative, developmental and positive approach the instructor will present exercises that will develop the body mechanics needed for rolls, handstands, cartwheels, backbends, headstands, and other beginning tumbling skills. Teams of Tomorrow Basketball and more! Students will learn a variety of basketball dribbling and ball handling skills taught in a fun and upbeat way. All students can excel in TOT - boys, girls, athletic and non-athletic. All students have a ball and are working on skills and never waiting their turn! We play games at the end of class using different types of equipment to work on fine and gross motor skills. The TOT team does a halftime performance for their friends and families at a local High school basketball game! Students will receive their own TOT basketball, TOT T-shirt and earn 4 pins and a medal based on their skill levels. Taught by: Teams of Tomorrow Mon. 3:45 - 4:30

Teams of Tomorrow Basketball and more! - Basic Challenge yourself by learning new and exciting basketball dribbling and ball handling skills in a fun way. If you have already completed Tiny TOT this is the next curriculum Basic TOT basketball. You can still join us even if you haven’t taken Tiny TOT before! This class will focus more on basketball skills and mastering them while tracking your progress through the course. There is a halftime performance opportunity at your local High School where students show what they have learned. If you are ready for the next level sign up for this class! Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Program Enhance the development of students in the following areas: leadership skills, academic achievement, athletic development, child safety awareness, social development, listening skills, and respect for others. Bricks 4 KidZ LEGO® WeDo Jr. Robotics Program - Introduction Using software, elementary school students will be able to program our proprietary models they craft out of LEGO® bricks. WeDo Jr. Robotics bridges the physical world, represented by LEGO® models, and the virtual world of computers and programming software, providing a hands-on, minds-on learning experience that actively involves young students in their own learning process. Drag-and-drop icon-based software provides an easy-to-use programming environment suitable for beginners and experienced users alike. Make Your Own Platform Computer Game! Learn to create a platform game like the old Mario games using Game Maker software. The Knight School Super-Fun Chess Classes! The Kinght School provides super-fun, high-energy chess classes that feature tactics belts, toast games, daily puzzlers, zany videos, opening monologues, driving music, colorfully-bracketed ongoing tournaments, and many other weekly traditions that hook the children and get them completely caught-up in to our operating system. We had 14 state champions last year, yet we maintain focus on beginners and younger kids. Come join us as we form the school chess team and get awesomely good at chess tactics! Just Imagine Theater Production Program In this fast-paced and exciting program, kids become the star/director of their own show! Each week, guided by Austin directors, kids will create hilarious characters, invent comical scenes and learn the art of theater through improv, script writing and theater production. The Gap Homework Club The Gap Homework Club at Bridge point is a place where you can get a jump-start on your homework for the day or work on long term projects. It’s also designed to fill in the gaps between the end of the school day and the beginning of Bridge point clubs that start at 3:30 p.m. Students who do not have homework on that particular day will participate in an educational, age appropriate activity created by a certified teacher. Drawing & Cartooning with Young Rembrandts Encourage your child’s enthusiasm for Art with our award winning step-by-step lessons. Drawings include a detailed dragonfly to celebrate one of nature’s most curious insects, an illustration of a popular automobile for our technical-minded student, and a marker rendering of a nutcracker to welcome the holiday season. In cartooning, students have fun drawing children’s facial expressions, ordinary objects will come to life as we personify and transform common them into cartoon characters. TGA Premier Youth Tennis Come serve it up with TGA Premier Youth Tennis at your school! TGA Premier Youth Tennis Come serve it up with TGA Premier Youth Tennis at your school! TGA has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your child that takes place after school on campus. Westlake PIPs Basketball Ballhandling Performance Program The Westlake PIPs (Players In Progress) program since 1990, is the best way to start kids (K-6th Grade) in sports by learning or improving basketball fundamental skills, drills and tricks and having fun performing them as a team in a routine to music at selected half-times of EISD’s WHS, HCMS and WRMS home basketball games. Special performances at a college campus and other special venues will be scheduled. A 4-hour PIP start-up combo camp (with other PIP groups) will be scheduled on a weekend day between 9/21 and 11/3/2013-TBA. A Registration deadline will be announced ASAP. Private Piano lessons Piano lessons are a fabulous, fun way for the student to explore music. Not only will the student learn how to play the piano and or keyboard, but she/ he will learn valuable musical theory that is transferable to any other musical instrument and also gain confidence as skills are mastered. PE Birthday Parties! Give your child the birthday party of their young life! Join your birthday child and their buddies for a fun-filled time in the gym. Students will participate in awesome P.E. games and activities. All you need to provide are the refreshments. All parties are scheduled directly with your child’s PE teacher. Maximum Students: 22 including Birthday child. Contact your PE Teacher to confirm your Party date! They will have a form with all of the particulars. You will turn that form and payment into the Community Education office located at 601 Camp Craft Road.

Eanes Child Care Eanes After School Youth (EASY) Care is available on every campus from school dismissal time to 6:00pm. Children enjoy snack time, supervised playtime on the playground, arts & crafts, games, manipulatives, reading time, and other age appropriate activities. Monthly payments can be paid by check or credit card. Drop-in days must be purchased in advance, five days at a time. Enjoy the EASY way to arrange after school care for your elementary child! Eanes CDC provides care for EISD employees children and families living in the Eanes district boundaries for children 6 wks to 5 yrs old. The CDC is located at the Barton Creek, Cedar Creek, and Valley View Elementary schools. The centers are open from 7:00am to 5:30pm to support the developmental growth of young children in an explorative, nurturing environment while collaborating with families and communities. Frequently Asked Questions Enroll Early: Sign up early because class size is limited. Once a class is full you may ask to be added to the waiting list. You will be notified via phone if a spot opens up. Registration will remain open one week after the class has started. Class Confirmation: After registering online you will receive a confirmation email or you may choose to print directly from the computer after registering. If mailing in a paper regisration form you will not receive any confirmation of registration. Consider yourself registered unless notified otherwise. Class Location: All of our enrichment classes are held at the EISD campuses unless notified otherwise. The location of your class will be listed on your confirmation receipt sent to your email. If attending a class held at Westlake High School, please park in the Stadium parking lot located off Camp Craft Rd and enter through the Chap Court. Class Cancellations: If a class is cancelled you will be contacted via email 48 hours prior to the class starting by the instructor. You will automatically be refunded the full class cost back to your Credit Card or by che ck, depending on how the class was paid for. Student Pick-up: At the end of class, instructors will walk their students to the front of the school to wait for their parents. Classes last their designated time and do not run longer. Instructors reserve the right to charge a late fee for pick-ups, and to remove the student from the class without refund for repeated incidents. Children will only be allowed to leave with their designated parent/ guardian. If your child will be going home with someone other than yourself or their designated guardian, please send a note with your child to give to the class instructor. Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, and if EISD is officially closed, all enrichment classes are postponed and will be rescheduled by the instructor. Such notice of school closing will be announced by local radio and television stations.

Refunds and Disclaimers Refunds: 100% refunds are only given for those classes that are canceled by Community Education. A 90% refund will be given to anyone that requests a refund 3 Business DAYS PRIOR to the start of the class or camp. Requests for refund must be emailed or submitted in writing to the Community Education Office. Refunds will be made by check or to the credit card account used when registering. Any refund requests made after the 72 hours before the start of classes/ camps should be made directly to the instructor.
