FUTURE HIGH-WAY

High-way as an all-contected system.

More sharing programs, and more specific vehicles.

Interactive road surface (loading cars) that will be energy neutral.

City centers will become disconnected from the high-way and only reachable when changing mode of transportation.


PROJECT LOCATION LOCATION the A12 high-way in 2035

The location of my project is a stretch of high-way between intersection Lunetten and Ouderijn, it was given by the studio.


PROJECT AIM Project aim: Combine the knowledge of the new highway and the future densification of Utrecht to illustrate the A-12 zone could be an highly attractive area.

BARRIER: SOUND & EMBANKMENT

The area where the avarage noise is above 55 dB, 660Ha, not suitable for living. (source: rijkswaterstaat.nl, data 2011)

The 8 meter high and 80 meter wide embankment with function as national evacuation route, is a big barrier.

There are two types of connections, tunnel (7) and bridge (1).

The dominant traffic flow in the A12 zone is N-Z, and the area is mostly designed for car traffic. Freedom of movement in the A12 zone.

The infrastructure divides the area in to islands, all residential areas are focused on a centre away from the high-way, business areas only use the high-way as advertisement possibility.

The two main typologies of the borders of the A12 high-way zone.


DESIGN

MASTERPLAN AREA Aim masterplan: Connect the area’s and make the existing stronger. This will hopefully result in a more lively and used area.

Sports as connecting activity

Improve quality of connections.

Densify a specific area (center), and introduce sharp boundaries

Introduce a W-E route for slow traffic.
