A place for your sporting nature ... Lester Lorch Nature Preserve’s 86 acres of trees, meadows and creeks, provides a unique experience for area visitors. Donated in 1976 by the Lorch family, the preserve became the first in Dallas County's open space program and is a popular destination in Cedar Hill. On average there are 229 days of sunshine per year in which to enjoy the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center or Cedar Hill State Park on beautiful Joe Pool Lake. Nowhere else can you find the diversity of life that flourishes in our 3,000 acres of protected nature reserves and preserves. And with over 45 miles of multi-purpose, integrated trails and bikeways from which to choose, Cedar Hill is a favorite natural getaway.
One of the most popular attractions of the preserve is the challenging 36-hole disc golf course, a favorite of casual players and tournament competitors alike. To learn more about disc golf, visit the Professional Disc Golf Association website at pdga.com.
Whether hiking or biking, fishing, bird watching or simply taking in our natural beauty, Cedar Hill has it all. Come explore and discover the place where attractions grow naturally.

Historic Downtown
600 Cedar Street Cedar Hill, TX 75104 972.291.5100 cedarhilltx.com/historicdowntown
Rich in values, tradition and history ... The tiny settlement of Cedar Hill was established in 1846. Families set their roots around a special plot of land donated by Abraham Hart, one of the first settlers in the area and recipient of land through the 1841 Peter's Colony land grant. Referred to as Old Town, Historic Downtown or simply Downtown, the area is bound roughly on the north by West Belt Line Road, east by U.S. Highway 67, to the south along Cooper at Broad and west approximately three blocks past the railroad tracks toward Joe Pool Lake. The Historic Walking Tour, a 2.2-mile self-guided trail, features over thirty historic sites around the original Old Town Square, among which are four Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks, five properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places and two Historic Texas Cemeteries.

Your sporting dreams come true ... Located on beautiful Joe Pool Lake, Cedar Hill State Park is one of the most visited parks in Texas consisting of 1,826 acres of rugged, natural beauty reminiscent of the Texas Hill Country. If not for spectacular views of the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines, visitors can easily forget they are in the largest urban park in the state and the fourth largest metropolitan area in the nation. The 7,500 acre Joe Pool Lake is the main attraction for most park visitors with boating, fishing, swimming and kayaking, but it's not all about the lake. The park features over 27 miles of trails to explore on bike or on foot. The DORBA trail, named for the volunteers of the Dallas Off Road Biking Association, crisscrosses 1,200 acres and is one of the top mountain bike trails in the state. The park features a marina, two boat ramps, numerous fishing piers, over 350 mostly wooded campsites, lakeside picnic sites, hike and bike trails, a swimming area and a 25-acre agricultural history center. The center pays tribute to the Penn Farm and other small, middle class farmsteads that once occupied the area and affords a glimpse into the evolution of machinery that replaced the horse and mule. The former homestead has a relaxing atmosphere and is perfect for family outings. It features reconstructed and historic buildings from the mid 1800s through the mid 1900s. The center is part of Cedar Hill State Park and is open seven days a week. Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours anytime or call to arrange a guided tour for school and other groups led by park docents.

Cedar Hill, Texas ... Where fun and adventure grow naturally!
Events, Festivals and Activities Relax and enjoy the festive fun ... There are entertaining opportunities for every season in Cedar Hill and the community hosts a number of annual
festivals and special events throughout the year for all to enjoy. Visitors will want to linger at the spring arts festival or catch our park concert series throughout the summer. And who wouldn't enjoy our annual fall festival, Country Day on the Hill, part of the Old Settlers’ Reunion in October. There's plenty of family holiday fun to enjoy as well. While you're here, be sure to check our calendar for Love Your City Theater’s seasonal productions, perfect entertainment for the whole family. Head for the Hills in May when Rotary International hosts their bike rally and Subaru's Down and Dirty Mud Run is rollicking good, if not so clean, fun.
Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex Attractions Denton
Just minutes away ... With so many things to do and see in Dallas/Fort Worth, finding
the right location to set up camp can be challenging, but that’s where we can help. Centrally located in the heart of the Metroplex, Cedar Hill is close to most major attractions in the area and still far enough removed that you’ll think you’re in the Texas Hill Country. So venture out during the day, but plan to stay in Cedar Hill.
