California CAPTURING THE GOLDEN STATE OF MIND
RELAXING AT LAKE TAHOE, 1959 War photographer-turned-good life documentarian Slim Aarons famously declared that “the only beach worth landing on is the one adorned with ravishing young semi-clad girls, sunbathing peacefully in the sun.” Of course, Aarons often extended the sentiment to pools, including this languorous summer moment in time captured in ’50s-era Lake Tahoe, a destination that’s retained its nostalgic, all-American charm to this day—drawing 3 million visitors annually to its snowy peaks and crystal waters, each looking to conjure their own version of the Technicolor holiday fantasy.
