Museums between manors and castle Our province boasts many villas and castles, and fortunately many of these old residences

are beautifully preserved, offering visitors the opportunity to visit them and, often times, to enjoy the charming little museums housed inside. This is precisely the case at the Doll and children’s clothing museum , located at the magnificent Rocca di Angera, owned by the Borromeo family, which features over two centuries of history, exhibiting a wide range of precious dolls made with a variety of materials, including wood, Papier-mâché, porcelain, wax, and even celluloid. In contrast, the sixteenth-century villa Cicogna Mozzoni in Bisuschio and villa Della Porta Bozzolo in Casalzuigno are museum homes, now owned by the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano - the "Italian Environmental Foundation"), which host exhibitions and floriculture events, as well

Varese, a city of gardens, parks, boasting a wealth of lakes and rivers. It provides a great variety of beautiful landscapes elegantly flanked by historical villas and numerous museums. A city deserving to be discovered slowly, unveiling its beauties to the curious few, precisely because its museums and art collections are safeguarded in villas or historical mansions. Varese offers a unique range of cultural opportunities; one needs only to cross the squares, streets, gardens, courtyards and then finally, ...the thresholds.

as concerts and theatre performances. Thanks to the donation made to the city by sculptor Giancarlo Sangregorio, with some of his greatest works being exhibited in the historic residence, Visconti Castle in Somma Lombardo features an unusual mix of ancient and contemporary art. The FAI also has another important property located on the hill of Biumo, the splendid Villa Litta Menafoglio Panza, which hosts Count Giuseppe Panza’s modern art collection, as well as a number of other important international exhibits. A museum that needs to rediscover its identity, on the other hand, is that of the Masnago Castle: despite hosting a good permanent collection and a number of exhibits by local artists, this structure, which once hosted events of a much higher level, has now fallen a bit behind.
