Located at the intersection of Dufferin and Queen Street West, the site acts as an edge between traditional and contemporary. All around the site, there are many architectural transitions that take place, making the site an interesting opportunity to explore and emphasize these transitions.

Throughout the years, libraries are seen to be evolving to cater to the digital age. In a similar way, the proposa for a new library celebrates the transition of past and present culture, a fusion where ideas are being exchanged through books and technology. This idea is present in the form, showing architectural transitions that are in dialogue with each other. By providing many spaces for interactiona and socializing, this building will be a milt-media hub; a space in which people gather to think, learn, and create. Being in a corner site, there will be entry points from both streets and provide a connection from the pathways from the condominium, inviting all people of all age groups and demographics to exchange ideas. Furthermore, this library embodies to create a community of learning using the past and present tools and technology. 7

The museum is located next to St. Andrew's park and welcomes those around to explore and engage with art. The entrance is rotated in a way where it maximizes the area and leads people to enter as it becomes an extension to the public realm. The overall form is shaped to frame the park starting as a completed form that gradually starts to pull apart towards the park.

ART MUSEUM

Mentor / Pierre-Alexandre Le Lay Fall 2018 / Design Studio II

Damian Ortega explores everyday objects as his art subjects. By reconfiguring and zooming in, inverting and disecting, one can see the different components of a whole in different perspectives, in its basic element. In a similar approach, this art museum for Damian Ortega demonstrates basic shapes that are linked together, in an effort to transform, rotate and pull elements apart, creating a unique yet simplistic form.

Exhibition spaces occur on all levels of the museum. However, there is a gradient of decomposition that starts at the top level down to the lower levels. The walls in each exhibition space start to open up also introducing the idea of private to public.

Being located in the heart of Toronto where there are lots of cafes and residence, this cafe/residence's main design intent came from how it needs to stand out from the rest of King St. Getting very little direct sun on site, this project puts an emphasis on transparency and light. By incorporating a lighwell that diffuses natural light into different levels, and using artificial light to showcase art and performances on its wall, it plays with different ways of using light. This attraction further helps to strengthen King St.'s continuity and connection from the people on the street to the buildings. 23

BOTANIST RESEARCH CABIN Mentor / Michelle Grant Winter 2018 / Design Studio I

This research cabin acts as a fusion between home and workplace. This was designed for two botanists in order to study plants out on the field and conduct research in a lab while providing the necessary space to eat and sleep. The intention was to create a space with a mix of comfort and driving motivation by introducing a design that is centralized by a green wall, further representing their line of work. The form is shaped by three platforms of different program that embrace the wall. The whole cabin is lifted up in an attempt to be as non-invasive to site. Its elevation points toward the site with its sloped roofs that mimic its surroundings further creating a dialogue, interaction and views. The circulation takes place around the wall with a gradient from public to private that are shown through the levels.

RESIDENCE BUILDING

Mentor / Pierre-Alexandre Le Lay Fall 2018 / Design Studio II

This proposal for a residence building is designed to house scholars and their families coming from different parts of the world. Located at one of the most multicultural parts in Toronto, Queen St. West, this residential building serves to act as a 'home away from home' where they are able to study and fully express themselves in their units. As you walk through the building, there is a transition from public to private where it starts from having a strict circulation to a more open space in which the occupant is able to do as they wish. 81 Brock Avenue

This 5-storey residential building consists of an event space, a library for its scholars as well as 17 units.
