A GRAMMY-nominated educator, producer, author, executive, and saxophonist, Caleb Chapman is regarded as a visionary and leading voice in modern music education.
While we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of this program, the Soundhouse story actually began 40 years ago when Paul and Arvilla Chapman decided that their son needed to do more than just learn how to throw, catch, kick, or shoot a ball and pushed him to join school band.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was skeptical of the value of studying music, and my 10-year-old brain was positive that it would be a complete waste of time. Spoiler alert - I was wrong.
Music challenged me in ways that other activities did not, which translated into a powerful and rewarding payoff for my efforts. Music connected me to individuals who would become lifelong friends and colleagues. Music carried me onto the conductor’s podium and later, across the globe. Music paid for my education and eventually put food on the table. And all along the way I was learning that music was a powerful teacher - not just in the arts - but also in the critical skills needed to be successful in life. Out of that realization the philosophy the Soundhouse would be built upon began to take shape.
Since 1998 thousands of individuals have bought into the idea that achieving excellence in music performance is a fantastic way to learn to achieve excellence in life performance. Over the years, this includes scores of Soundhouse staff, hundreds of visiting guest artists, and thousands of young Soundhouse performers and their parents.
To all of them and to all of you, I say “thank you”. Thank you for sharing the dream. Thank you for being willing to take a different look at what is possible with music education when motivation and passion are combined with excellence. Thank you for helping create a community where young artists can truly feel a sense of belonging. And thank you for accepting a vision of the almost unbelievable things young performers can achieve when we expect greatness from them.
In short, thank you for making the Soundhouse what it is today and what it will continue to become over the next 25 years!
In recognition of exceptional contributions to music education and outstanding service to the musicians of the Soundhouse.

I created SAHAEL because, It was hard to read books & comics that didn’t have any heroes that looked like me. There was little representation during my upbringing. promised myself that one day I would change the narrative when knew how. SAHAEL is my lifelong passion project. That started out as a hobby that grew into an obsession. Writing Dark Racial Fantasy, exploring elements & origins of hate, racism, & microaggressions explaning how they’ve impacted our societies politically, legally, & economically throughout history.
