TABLE OF CONTENTS Letter from the Principal Calendar of Events Woodview School Information October Birthdays PTO News and Notes Lunch Menu Changes D46 Family Science Night
November 8, 2013 Dear Woodview Parents and Guardians, The week of October 21st we celebrated Red Ribbon week. It was a huge success! The posters on display in the front hallway represent our promise to lead healthy lifestyles. Each classroom door was decorated to show our commitment to making good choices. Our Fine Arts Committee hosted Dr. Cool and Pride who discussed building self-esteem, and feeling good about who we are. Thanks to Mrs. Marks, our social worker, for organizing the week’s events. Each month our school focuses on a positive behavior lesson we call cool tools. The lesson focuses on a short picture book that reinforces the theme. Classrooms enjoy the story together and participate in a discussion along with an activity of their choice to highlight what they have learned. We proudly display our collection of work. Each class then receives a tool to add to their toolbox of positive behavior. So far we have learned about Respect and Responsibility. A special reminder to all parents using our drop off circle, it is important that you remain in your vehicle at all times. Our staff does their best to keep the traffic moving while keeping our students safe. If you need to get out of your car, we ask that you park in our parking lot. We thank everyone for patience and appreciate your cooperation. It is illegal to use cell phones in a school zone. Help us keep our kids safe by giving full attention to your driving in our school zone. As the weather turns colder, we would like to remind families that proper dress is important. Recess can be a fun part of the day, but coats and gloves may soon be necessary. I look forward to seeing you at Culvers, one of our most popular Dine and Share Nights On Wednesday, November 13th. you may even see a few a Woodview staff members serving your food.
Sincerely, Cathy Santelle Principal Woodview School

Woodview School Information Some important information for the families of Woodview students
Veteran’s Day Dear Parents/Guardians, As you know, Monday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day. At Woodview School, through a program called Illinois Operation; Military Kids, we would like to post a “Wall of Heroes” to honor our Service member’s families (particularly their children). Please send photos of members of the military who are family members or close friends to school by 11/11/13 and they will be posted in a place of honor. It would be wonderful if you had photographs of your child with their military hero! This is our way of saying “Thank You” to our “military kids”. Woodview Staff
Internet Safety Throughout the year we try to emphasize to students ways to be smart and safe while using the Internet. We recently completed lessons reminding students to keep their personal information private. Students should not give out their real name, address, telephone number, age, name of their school or details about their sports team. We encourage you to talk to your student about sites they are visiting and the contact they have with other people online. Students have been told to never agree to meet an online friend in person. Here are some resources we use to help lead our discussions. Kindergarten - http://www.netsmartzkids.org/ First Grade - KidsCom Jr - Iggey and Ras#21ED Second Grade - http://www.ikeepsafe.org/youth/ Faux Paw the Techno Cat – Adventures in the Internet Third Grade - Privacy Playground- The F#1B754 Three Cyber Pigs

Happy Birthday to all our October Birthday students! The students enjoyed a birthday breakfast with Principal Santelle!
PTO News and Notes A Huge Thank You! The Woodview Media Center staff would like to thank the PTO for their support of the library. The PTO recently made a large purchase of 81 new biographies for our collection to give us an update. Some of the famous people the students may now read about include: Kate Middleton, Drew Breese, Shaun White, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Leo Paul (invented the electric guitar), Philo Farnworth, (invented the television,) Sonia Sotomayor, Hayat Sindi (biochemist), James Naismith (invented the game of basketball) and Mae Jemison (astronaut). We would also like to thank the PTO for allowing us to select materials from the bookfair to add to our library collection. It was wonderful that students helped pick out some of the materials they wanted to see in the library. The bookfair is a great opportunity for us to get high interest materials into the collection. Ms. Tarnowski and the Library Staff
