A Letter from our principal...

Principal: Cathy Santelle

March 22, 2013 Dear Parents and Guardians, It’s hard to believe that Spring Break is beginning. We are so busy here at Woodview School working with your children! ISAT testing has been completed for our third and fourth grade students. We are proud of the students for their effort during this time. Thank you for all of your help at home talking with students about doing their best. We look forward to seeing the results in the fall! Here are a few updates and upcoming events for April. Mr. Smith has been working hard with students to prepare for our music concerts. Our first and second graders performed last Thursday. It was amazing! The third and fourth graders will be presenting on Thursday, April 4th. We can hardly wait to see what they have been up to. Don’t forget about our Art show. Ms. Heinz will be looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, April 25th. If you know someone who does not receive our Woody Review, please let them know they are missing out on valuable Woodview information. It is up to all of us to stay informed. Encourage friends to visit our website and click on the Going Green link to sign up for school newsletters, BOE notices and district events. Last week I had a chance to meet incoming Woodview families. Our Kindergarten Meet and Greet was an opportunity for future Woodview Kindergarteners and their parents to see our school and learn about registration. If you have any neighbors that will be Kindergarten age, please tell parents to register now for next school year. Knowing who is coming helps us prepare for next year. I hope all of the Woodview families enjoy a happy and safe spring break. We look forward to a warm and productive spring! Sincerely, Cathy Santelle Principal—Woodview School

Dear Woodview Friends, Together with our parent community, our PTO Board has had a tremendously satisfying and successful 2012-2013 school year, having hosted several family events and fundraisers that enabled us to purchase five SMART Boards for Woodview classrooms, a sound system for the Music department, many library books, as well as to provide funding for Exploration Day, field trips, and several fine arts assemblies, plus many, many classroom supplies and materials for our teachers and kids. Together, we are a community of parents that gets things done and makes a difference in our school! Now, the Woodview PTO is looking ahead to next year, and we want to include you. Several PTO Board positions will be open, and we'd love to fill them soon, to ensure a smooth transition and to be able to continue to provide these "extras" for our families, teachers, and children. The following positions are open: President Secretary Ways and Means (2 positions available) We wish to continue the good work with a new group of parents who want to be a part of the great things our PTO does! Please contact us if you're interested in learning more about any of the positions. Thank you! Your Woodview PTO Board Krista Bean, President Elizabeth Corripio, Vice President Sandi Hornung, Co-Treasurer Sandy Pogue, Co-Treasurer Traci Parker, Co-Secretary Margarett Blada, Co-Secretary Brandi Kornit, Co-Ways & Means Cheryl Wilgen, Co-Ways & Means Chris George, Co-Ways & Means Tony Primack, Co-Ways & Means

We are currently experiencing a large number of absences due to a viral illness that appears to be spreading. The symptoms reported are cough, sore throat and fever that come and go. This fever is normal during the day, then spikes again in the evening. Please make sure your child has been fever-free for a FULL 24 HOURS, without medication, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. (fever = 99.5 degrees or above). Sending sick students back to school too soon increases the spread of the illness. Please let us know your child’s symptoms when leaving a message on the attendance line. This will help us identify illness trends in the classrooms. Also, please make sure we have your current cell phone numbers and an emergency alternative on file if your child becomes sick at school. Sick children CANNOT stay in school! Hopefully, Spring Break will cure us all! Thank you for your cooperation! Lori Isaacs, RN District Nurse 847 543-5901

Woodview Families, The Jump Rope for Heart was a HUGE success this year! We flew past our school goal by raising $6,405.55 for the American Heart Association!!! Thank you to the PTO and parent volunteers who helped with the event. It was awesome! Jewel, Chobani, and Culligan all made generous donations to allow our students to choose from a variety of healthy food choices as they participated in jump rope activities. The student gifts should be arriving after Spring Break and will be distributed during P.E. class. Our students never cease to amaze us with their endless capabilities. GREAT JOB WOODVIEW STUDENTS! Mr. Mulvaney & Mr. Feldman

Thank you to all the wonderful Woodview families that have helped raise over $ 1,688 by contributing Box Tops since the beginning of the year. Well done!! This money goes directly towards benefitting the students by means of supplies, field trips, assemblies or activities. Our 4th Box Tops contest of the year is underway! It will end on Friday, April 26th. First and 2nd place prizes will be awarded yet again! The Box Tops lady will give updates on WBC. Thank you, and keep clipping! Please contact Virginia Fitzgerald with any questions at

Mr. Smith’s Music Notes

Hello Woodview Families! Full Day Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd Grade Your students did a wonderful job on the concert, and I have been hearing a lot of positive feedback from the parents, the staff, and even 3rd and 4th grade students! I hope your students are proud of all of their hard work. Now that the concert is over, we are going to start learning the basics of reading and following written music notation. Students will become familiar with the staff, tell the difference between a line and space note, and even experiment with melodic direction. Third and Fourth grade Your concert is coming up after spring break! The students should be practicing with the website and should have all lyrics and music memorized by the week of the concert. If your child chooses to dress like a rock star for the concert, please adhere to the following: - sunglasses, jeans and a t-shirt, color hair spray is optional - no wigs, no hats, no face paint The staff reserves the right to remove any portion of a costume that does not meet the guidelines above. Students should remain with their parent until 6:15pm and continue to follow school guidelines for behavior.

We are getting ready for our concerts! Please look at my website to practice with your students at home. Mark your calendars: The 3rd and 4th grade concert this year is Thursday April 4th at 6:30 pm Students should arrive in their teachers classrooms dressed in their “rock star” best at 6:15pm Please e-mail if you have any questions! Thank you! Tyler Smith
