January 24, 2014 Dear Park Parents and Guardians, Thank you for your patience during the challenging winter months. With extreme cold and regular snowfall, arrival and dismissal continues to be a stressful time for everyone. Some ways we can continue to improve our process and maintain the highest levels of safety for students are: following the arrival and dismissal traffic patterns, carpooling with neighbors to reduce amount of cars, and keeping name signs in the passenger side car window to help staff efficiently facilitate dismissal. During the week of February 10th, you are invited to meet your child(ren)’s teacher(s) during Parent Teacher Conferences. In order to arrange conference times that best meet the needs of all of our parents, students will be dismissed at 11:45 on Thursday, February 13th and there will be no school on Friday, February 14th. The teachers look forward to meeting with you regarding your child’s learning. In addition, there is no school on Monday, February 17th for Presidents’ Day. At our first set of conferences, parents and teachers established goals for the children. At our second set of conferences many of the students are invited to be part of studentinvolved conferences. By including the students in the conference they are able to share their learning with parents and receive immediate feedback about their progress. Please look for information from your child’s teacher for specific details. As always, if you need additional information or time to speak with your child’s teacher, please let them know. The support you offer your children and the staff at Park Campus is greatly appreciated. Your thoughts regarding your child’s learning are valued. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

Matt Melamed

David Dinsmore

Park School Campus Notes / Activities January 24, 2014

Yearbooks: On-line Yearbook ordering information can be found on our school website. We are encouraging as many parents as possible to use the on-line ordering feature as it will allow us to better track student orders. Yearbooks will cost $18 per copy. Please visit the Park Campus website or click on the following link to order: http://jostensyearbooks.com?REF=A01102972 K-4 Grade Recess Reminder: As the weather continues to be extremely cold, please make sure your children have hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, and winter coats. As weather permits, we will have outdoor recess. The blacktop provides an area for students to play that are not dressed for the snow. We will be outside for recess unless the wind chill drops below zero degrees. Safety Procedure: As adults enter our facility and pass through our school office, we are scanning photo ID’s and printing a photo visitor’s badge. Please bring a photo ID every time you visit our school. This safety system has been instituted in each of our district’s schools and adds another layer of security for our students, parents, and staff. If you are volunteering, please allow a few extra minutes for this procedure. Arrival & Dismissal: Please continue to use the south (K-5) and west (6-8) lots for arrival and dismissal. It is a safety risk to drop-off or pick-up students in the east parking lot. By minimizing the number of people moving through the east parking lot at arrival and dismissal times we can ensure the safety of all students and keep the procession of cars moving as quickly as possible. Additionally, if you choose to park your car and pick your child(ren) up on foot from a designated student exit, please be sure to cross at a cross-walk with the assistance of staff. Students are not to cross without an adult escort. Thanks for your continued assistance during these colder months. Attention 8th Grade Parents: We will be having our first graduation dance celebration meeting on January 30, at 6:00pm in the Media Center. We are looking for parents interested in helping plan this special event for the 8th graders. During this meeting we will start to look at the theme for the event and start to explore the necessary items that will be needed (decorations/food/etc.). This celebration cannot happen without your help. If you would like to help, but cannot attend the meeting, please email Jen Voss at voss.jennifer@d46.org so your name can be added to our distribution list.
