Grayslake Middle School Summer Band It’s time to register for our 2014 Summer Band! The GMS Summer Band is open to all incoming 7th and 8th grade band members(current 6th and 7th) that will be attending Grayslake Middle School in the 2014-2015 school year. All students attending will form one mass band for the week. The purpose of this week will be to get students ready for the new school year both mentally and physically as we “reacquaint” some of them with their instruments while at the same time bringing the band program together and having some fun. This is a great way to slowly ease students not only back into quality music making - but into the new school year as a whole. This program is not a mandatory one, but my hope is that we get as close to 100 percent of GMS band members as we can. I plan on bringing other musicians, teachers and conductors in throughout the week to work with the students (so they won’t be stuck with me the entire time). The week ends with the students performing a brief outdoor concert on Friday afternoon for all families to see what we have worked on throughout the week. The cost is $50.00 for the week, and this payment is not due until the first day of Summer Band. This fee will cover the cost of all of the guest musicians throughout the week, music, snacks each day, and then the picnic lunch on Friday after our performance. Here is the necessary information and schedule for each day: Grayslake Middle School Summer Band Monday, August 4th - Friday, August 8th 9:00am - 12:00pm Concert & Reception on Friday, August 8th 12:30pm cost per student: $50.00 DAILY SCHEDULE 9:00am-9:30 - Full band warm-ups/chorales/scales/rhythm studies 9:35-10:35 - Separate instrument sectionals (woodwind/brass/percussion) 10:35-10:45 - Break 10:45-12:00pm - Full band rehearsal on summer music

If this is something you plan on attending, please fill out the attached sheet and turn it in to your director no later than Friday, May 23rd. DO NOT TURN IN ANY PAYMENT AT THIS TIME. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Thomas at: thomas.steven@d46.org
