Welcome Dear Friend of the Arts, Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Cultural Council of Indian River County, and what a year it was! With ever more robust seasons of cultural offerings, Indian River County has seen a surge in attendance in our arts and cultural events. By some estimates, patronage of the arts has doubled over the last five years and shows no sign of slowing. With such a growing and diverse array of cultural offerings, the role of the Cultural Council in our community is more vital than ever. While the Arts & Cultural Guide is many people’s introduction to the Cultural Council, we offer so much more to Indian River County artists and patrons. From the display of our members’ art in our public buildings, to our Cultural Concierge service, our many exciting events throughout the year, to the local and state-level advocacy that we do on behalf of the artistic community of Indian River County, the impact that the Cultural Council is having in our county is incredibly important and dynamic. This impact extends to the Cultural Council’s leadership in developing a Cultural Arts Village in downtown Vero Beach. This project, which is privately funded, has already played a role in re-energizing the neighborhood and will serve as a critical organ of artistic expression and development in the years ahead. We have long known that cultural tourism is one of the primary economic engines within Indian River County, representing over 25% of the County’s total sales. In recognition of the fundamental nature of the arts on the economic well-being of our community, it is a source of pride that about 20% of our total membership is made up of local businesses which recognize the role arts and culture play in our county’s GDP. We are excited about this season’s arts and cultural offerings, and this Guide will provide you with a great sense of the richness of the community and cultural lifeblood of Indian River County. As always, however, there is “more to explore” than can be contained in this booklet, and we invite you to connect with us on the web or on social media at the addresses shown below and on the following page. Let us be your beacon for the arts in Indian River County. We look forward to seeing you this season! Yours truly, Patrick A. Farrah, Chair Cultural Council of Indian River County · 2041 14th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960 · 772-770-4857 · www.cultural-council.org

How to Use This Guide In the first part of this guide you will find events organized by category. Under each category events are listed in alphabetical order by the organization producing the event. Categories are color coded and are as follows: Theatre & Dance Concerts, Opera, Orchestra & Symphony Fine Art, Galleries & Museums Speaker Series, Lectures, Literary & Film Community Events & Festivals Children’s Activities Some organizations appear in more than one category as their events and/or productions fall into multiple categories. Contact information for each event is included under the name of the organization. In the second part of this guide events have been listed by date. Underneath each event is the organization producing the event. The organizations are color coded to correspond to the categories where you can find more information about the event and how to contact the organization. The companion piece to this guide is our online calendar, www. culturalcalendar.org. All events are listed on an actual calendar so you may look for events on a specific day, during a week or a month. When using the calendar, you can select the category or categories of events you want to see, or you can choose to see everything happening that day, week, or month. Events are linked to a website giving specific information about the event. The online calendar is updated daily. In addition to our online calendar, please visit the Cultural Council on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news. For mobile devices, we have included QR Codes for our calendar, Facebook and Twitter. Enjoy the 2016-2017 Arts and Cultural Guide and its many events.
