Welcome Dear Volunteer, I’d like to personally thank you for your interest in supporting Cotuit Center for the Arts and welcome you to one of the most dynamic, engaged and important committees you’ll find anywhere. As a matter of fact, our volunteer committee is the envy of nonprofit organizations throughout the Cape. During my nearly 10 years at this wonderful cultural mecca I’ve been fortunate to meet so many amazing volunteers and while I try to say thank you publicly as often as possible, I have come to realize that no amount of talking will ever adequately illustrate the importance your contribution brings to the Center. Because I personally value your association with us it’s very important to me that you feel like you are part of our family. Because you are. I want you to get as much out of volunteering at the Center as we get from having you involved. And as we move forward with an exciting, ambitious capital expansion that will completely transform our community, I know you’ll find many different ways to be involved. I hope you’ll consider taking a class. Volunteer to work behind the scenes on a theatrical production. Enter a juried art show. Or just come hang out at a Wine and Music Wednesday. Also, I ask that you become a fierce advocate. Let everyone know how fantastic and important the work we do is. How much we need to realize our dream together. How much the art and culture we provide improves the lives of everyone living in our community. I can’t say thank you enough. But I will do my best to say it every time I see you helping out. Mission Statement The arts are essential. Our mission is to be a welcoming hub for Cape Codâ€™s artists, performers, students, and audiences, working together to make the creation and experience of art accessible, nurturing, and thrilling to all.
About the Center Founded in 1993 and incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1995, Cotuit Center for the Arts has grown into an award-winning and dynamic arts and cultural hub serving Cape Cod, Southeastern Massachusetts and beyond. We host more than 35,000 visitors yearly for free and paid programming in our gallery, main theater, black box theater and classrooms. We serve local populations of disabled teens and adults and incarcerated youth through our outreach programs. Our offerings include art exhibits, live theater, concerts, classes and workshops, film screenings and special events. We collaborate with local artists, musicians, actors, performers, teachers, volunteers and the occasional celebrity to provide a rich experience to our audiences and attendees all year long. Our calendar is jam-packed â€” a week at the Center juggles an average of 120 hours of programming across ten schedulable locations on campus. From rehearsals to meetings to classes to performances, we are always buzzing with activity. A typical year will feature 8 Mainstage theater productions, 11 Black Box shows, 40 or so class offerings, 12 Gallery installations and 41 special events from concerts to student collaborations, annual festivals to talent showcases, craft fairs to magic shows. Our ticket sales cover only half of our financial needs â€” we are supported by the contributions of our generous donors, sustained by a dedicated force of 400 active volunteers, grounded by the vision of a 16-member Board of Directors and driven by the dedication and passion of 9 full-time and 9 parttime employees. We strive to be a welcoming hub at every level.

Volunteer Hub Volunteer sign-ups for our events are managed through the online, self-scheduling volunteer portal Volunteer Hub. Be sure and sign up on the center website (www.artsonthecape.org) to receive monthly emails with a link to the Hub listing upcoming volunteer opportunities. Below are the instructions on how to register, log on and volunteer for any worthwhile events. 1. Log on to www.ccfta.volunteerhub.com 2. Click “Create Account” in the upper right hand corner. 3. Create a username and password. Keep a record of your username and password for future use. 4. Enter your contact information – name, address, email, cell phone, etc. 5. Your account is now set up and you can view the events on the homepage. Customize how you see the events listed by clicking on the dropdown menu next to “View upcoming events by” and choose either “Date” (a list of events) or by “Calendar”. 6. Once you’ve chosen the view that works best for you, browse all upcoming events (including their time and a brief description) and simply click on the particular event that appeals to you and works for your schedule. Then click “Sign Up” and you are done!
7. The system lets you know how many spots are open for any event and will also let you know if an event is full. 8. You will immediately receive a confirmation email with the particulars of your chosen event. You will also receive a reminder email 3 days prior to the event and (if you choose) a reminder text one day prior to the event. 9. The system also allows you to cancel yourself from an event should your schedule change. If you have to cancel the day before a weekend show, or at the last minute, please call the box office at 508-428-0669. 10. Please note: For future access to the Volunteer Hub, choose “Sign In” (not “create account”). Please email Ira Mendoza at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. Be sure to keep an eye out for your reminder email a few days before your assigned time. Also, check back often – new events get added, folks cancel and open up a spot, times may change, etc.
Event Dress Code and Parking Policy Dress Code: When you volunteer at Cotuit Center for the Arts, it is important that our patrons recognize you as a representative of the Center. Please wear a white top/shirt and black skirt/pants. This creates a uniform look for all volunteers. Always wear your Center-provided name badge.
Parking: We request that you park in the rear of the parking lot behind the administrative building so that our patrons will have the opportunity to park near the gallery and theater. Speak with the Front of House Manager if you require an accommodation.
Customer Service and Interaction Great customer service is key to our being a welcoming hub for our patrons and other volunteers. As a volunteer, and more importantly an ambassador of the Center, you are key to a great experience. • Treat every patron with dignity and respect. • Make every patron feel welcome. Smile, be friendly and courteous. Make eye contact when speaking to each patron. • Be willing to do a little extra. • Act to solve complaints and problems to the patron’s satisfaction • Never argue or be confrontational. • Ask the Front of the House Manager or designee for help if you cannot assist a patron.
Safety The safety and well-being of our patrons, performers, artists, staff and volunteers are paramount to us. As a volunteer, please be aware of the following: • Location of fire exits in the area you are working. • Slipping and tripping hazards – remove immediately or get someone to help you. • Wipe up spills immediately. Get someone to help if needed. • Remain calm in the unlikely event of an emergency. Follow the instructions of the senior person on site or emergency personnel. • In the event of an accident, stay with the injured person and send someone for the Front of the House Manager or staff member.
Problem Resolution As a welcoming hub, Cotuit Center for the Arts strives to make your volunteer experience rewarding, interesting, and fun. However, when a group of people work and volunteer together, problems may arise. If you need help resolving a problem, dispute, or misunderstanding that occurs during the course of your volunteering, please speak with the Front of House Manager or staff member in charge of the activity or event.
