The 2016 Recipients Kah Soon Yap

Annie Huynh

“To me, community is fluid; not static like an area in the city ─ I belong to the Asian American community as well as the young adult community. One of the challenges facing the communities I belong to is the lack of resources and I plan on giving back to the organizations that can provide that.”

“When I think of community, I think of the relationships that I created. Through my internship, I learned to appreciate my community, and who I am. Education extends far beyond the classroom, and in many instances, one’s community is one’s best teacher.”

Kevin Lin “Community is the bond that allows people to feel safe enough to be vulnerable in front of others or stand together in solidarity for something that is bigger than our separate parts. I hope to make an impact on mine.”

Jennifer Chiao “Community to me is a space where we can connect with others freely. I aspire to become an educator for underserved urban students and communities … and bring about education equality by becoming a global teacher and impacting future leaders within and beyond US borders.”
