Real Estate Ride Still A Bit Bumpy Our strengthening Ponte Vedra Beach real estate market took a blip in April with a 50 percent decrease in closed sales from the same period in 2013. The decrease was duplicated in the other beaches communities with the exception of Atlantic Beach but overall was 4.3 percent. Perhaps because of decreased inventory-which is very visible-and competition from new homes, but hopefully only a blip. Jacksonville area-wide listings were up 13 percent but months of inventory down 13.8 percent. A slight increase –2.3 percent-in average sales price and a small decrease in days on the markets, down 7.2 percent. The state saw a strong market in first quarter 2014, reporting higher median prices, more new listings, fewer days on the market and a slight uptick in inventory, according to the latest housing data released by Florida Realtors®. Closed sales of single-family homes statewide totaled 50,251 in 1st quarter 2014, up 2.3 percent over the 1st quarter 2013 figure. “The first three months of 2014 show a strong housing market in Florida, with diminishing distressed property sales”, says 2014 Florida Realtors President Sherri Meadows. “More jobs are being created, putting more Florida residents back to work, and our population continues to increase. All of these factors are bolstering the state’s economy and providing a solid foundation for a strong housing market.

On A Personal Note Spring was a busy time at Portsmouth Court with the arrival of the Paris contingent for two weeks and Jackie for Easter week from Washington. In spite of a few rainy cool days, lots of pool and beach fun with cousin William. And after departure, in addition to the usual sheets, sheets, sheets and towels, towels, towels to wash and toys to put away, a snake to dispel from my bedroom. Too many doors open!
