SPRING 2013

j Dear Student,

The forest is calling your name as the wind blows through its branches, the crashing waves roar the sound of adventure, and the mountains stand as a symbol to the freedom found away from the city. This Field Guide was made for you to get involved in the CBU Outdoor community. Inside it you will find rental gear, overnight trips, day trips, and clinic information that will give you opportunities to connect to nature, and people at CBU. We are excited to present you with this gift from us. Use it as a tool to get outdoors and have fun. We are stoked to be out there with you guys, and to go on some awesome adventures together. Love,

The Outdoor Adventures Staff

TRADITIONAL SPORTS

Challenges This section is for the brave of heart, the people with a burning passion for the great outdoors, and for those who have an affinity for exploring. We, the Outdoor Adventures staff, have chosen some difficult, but attainable, challenges that we feel will lead you to some fun-filled, memorable experiences. Below are four challenges that will push you to get outdoors and have some fun. We ourselves will be doing the challenges and may have some day or overnight trips that will encompass them. Here are the steps to completing a challenge: 1. Get to the destination. 2. Take a picture of yourself using a camera or phone that shows that you were there. 3. Post that picture on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #CBUOutside. 4. Come see us in the gameroom. 5. Get the seal of Outdoor Adventures stamped in this Field Guide. 6. Collect your reward, once you have completed 3 of the 4 challenges. It is simple and sweet. So get going and impress us with your outdoor skills, we are stoked to see what you guys do.

The Challenges Standing Tall: Take a picture of yourself and the view at an

elevation greater than 9,000 feet.

Happy Trails: Take a picture of yourself at 3 trail heads. (Come see us in the gameroom if you do not know of any)

Swing Low, Sweet Hammock: Take a picture of yourself, in a hammock in the wilderness (not CBU). Hang 10: Have someone take a picture of you riding some tasty waves.

Program Director Jon McWhorter has a passion for the great outdoors and serving the students of California Baptist University. In the wild he resembles an owl through his vision, insight, and wisdom. Jon’s vision for Outdoor Adventures grows as the student body does. His insight and wisdom keep the program thriving and gaining new grounds each semester. He is excited to lead the trips this semester, and be part of the outdoor experience.

CALEB SOLIS

Outdoor Adventures Intern Mr. Solis is an anomaly of creation. God spent a few more moments molding him in his mother’s womb than He did others. Not only is Caleb rugged, handsome, and stalwart, his mannish beard can hold pencils, unaided, while his kind eyes speak volumes of empathy without the help of his words (or suspended pencil). His primal courage, features, and impersonations thrust him into the ranks of the greatest primates ever. His animal alter ego must be the silverback. Join him in Outdoor Adventures. If ever there existed a man to travel into the outdoors with, Caleb is he.
