CENTRAL BANK OF THE BAHAMAS ART GALLERY Notes for August – December 2015 10. AUGUST 2015 During this time, the gallery will be closed for renovation. These renovations will include but are not limited to painting, puttying walls, and the addition of hanging wires.

11. AUGUST 31ST – OCTOBER 7TH, 2015 The National Youth Choir of the Bahamas is scheduled to start bringing works in for their exhibition on Friday, August 31st, 2015. The exhibition is set to be installed by September 7th, 2015. The opening date is Thursday, September 17th, 2015. They request the use of the following items: -

Podium (it is to my belief that the podium has a PA system attached)

-

Thirty to Forty (30 – 40) chairs

-

One table

The exhibition is set to close on Friday, October 7th, 2015. During the course of the exhibition, they will schedule school visits and mini concerts within the gallery. Along with coordinating with curator, Antonius Roberts, the committee of the National Youth Choir will liaise with Mrs. Tammara Thomas. *The deadline for the submission of works for the Open Category competition is Friday, September 25th, 2015.

12. OCTOBER 9TH – NOVEMBER 27TH, 2015 The Open Category exhibition is scheduled to open on Friday, October 9th, 2015. A remainder of the deadline for submission should be published in Smith & Benjamin’s newsletter on Thursday, September 10th and Thursday, September 17th, 2015. Each request should be made by the Tuesday before to Ms. Stephanie Shivers (stephanie@smith-benjamin.com). Deadline for the competition is Friday, September 25th, 2015. Opening date for the exhibition is Friday, October 9th, 2015, and the awards ceremony for the exhibition is Friday, October 16th, 2015 (Simultaneously is the deadline for works to be submitted for the High School Competition). The judging of the competition can be held on Tuesday, October 13th, 2015. I propose that the judging of the exhibition should be held within the gallery rather than the Clearing room. It would be easier to organize the High School works in the Clearing Room rather than in the storage area.

CENTRAL BANK OF THE BAHAMAS ART GALLERY Prospective judges for both competitions are as follows: Scharad Lightbourne, Photographer Tessa Whitehead, Artist and Curator (An employee of the Central Bank of The Bahamas) The exhibition closes on Friday, October 30th, 2015. An email should be sent to artists on Wednesday, November 4th, 2015 reminding them that they have five (5) more days to pick up their work. On, Monday, November 9th, 2015, the storage room should be cleared, and an email should be sent stating that works have been suitably discarded or liquidated into the bank’s collection. The High School Category exhibition is scheduled to open on Thursday, November 6th, 2015. A remainder of the awards ceremony should be sent out on Thursday, November 6th, 2015. Each request should be made by the Tuesday before to Ms. Stephanie Shivers (stephanie@smith-benjamin.com). Once again the deadline for the competition is Friday, October 16th, 2015. Since the Clearing Room and storage facilities should be emptied by now, the judging can take place within the original room. Judging should take place on Monday, November 9th, 2015. The closing date for the competition is Friday, November, 27th, 2015. Emails should be sent on Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 to parents and teachers reminding them to retrieve works. Thursday, December 10th, 2015, emails should be sent to parents and teachers stating that neglected works have been suitably disposed of or liquidated into the bank’s collection.

13. DECEMBER 2015 Livingston Pratt is scheduled to exhibit within the gallery for the month of December. Seeing as though the bank is usually heavily decorated, we can propose for him to open the exhibition in the new year. This way we have an anticipated great start to the year, and his exhibition is given sole attention within the space.

CENTRAL BANK OF THE BAHAMAS ART GALLERY Suggested Exhibition for 2016 For the year 2016, we have discussed continuing the theme of collaborating with community-centered organizations and giving young artists opportunities. Jodi Minnis, the Assistant Curator, after consulting with Administration Manager, Mr. Ian Fernander, and Chief Curator, Antonius Roberts, conversed the following artists: -

Jordanna Kelly The conversations was about Ms. Kelly hosting a solo exhibition within the space. She has participated in the High School and Open Category competitions and exhibitions. As a participating artist in “Bloom”, Governor Wendy Craigg bought one of her works “Beauty Within” to add to the bank’s collection. Kelly has participated in various exhibitions in New Providence. She has agreed to exhibit, and we are in dialogue about the dates.

-

Jessica Maycock-Colebrooke – The Denis Knight Scholarship Award The Denis Knight Scholarship Award is awarded to a student from the College of The Bahamas to assist them with supplies and materials for about two (2) years. As a recipient of the award, it was possible for me to complete my studies at the college due to this financial assistance. It was discussed that the recipient of the award should be given an opportunity to exhibit within the bank. Since the scholarship is given to an active student, this opportunity is expected to urge students to create works outside of everyday homework assignments. Mrs. Colebrooke will make a decision in the upcoming year

-

Kim Smith – The Place For Art has requested to exhibit their student’s work once again in the summer.

-

Sue Bennett-Williams – ASMAC studios has requested to exhibition their student’s work once again the summer.
