ON THE GROUND JUNE 2018 HEADLINE

INTERCESSORY PRAYER WORKSHOP The CBN South African office held its first ever Intercessory Prayer Workshop, led by our Prayer Strategist, Gertrude Moyo. This was the first of many workshops to come in the future. The aim of the workshop was to expose people who are passionate about prayer to what prayer intercession is all about. Our hope is that the attendees will learn to pray for and with others, and potentially become volunteers on our CBN prayer team. 31 people in total attended the workshop in May and June.

POP-UP LEARNERS

LIFE CHILD

CBN sponsors a learner every month through the POP-UP Program with the vision to transform and up skill young people so that they can find employment and impact their community in a positive way. Katlego is one of the students that CBN has supported over the last year. Katlego came from a past that involved drugs, alcohol abuse and he faced many other social ills however Katlego attended the Foundation for Life program, inclusive of 'Crafting my Future', a selfawareness and career guidance program. He also joined the Forklift skills program.

CBN supports Life Child Creches (13 partnerships) in Cape Town. These include close to 700 children who are educated and provided with nutritional meals. This main center also includes a safety house with a creche. The creches run on a Montessori Program which facilitates larger classes with one teacher and focuses on key developmental milestones to help the children. On the 23rd of May 2018 the CBN team visited 3 of the creches in the Phillipi area in Cape Town.

This has equipped him with skills and knowledge to further his

career goals. Attending the Foundation for Life at POP-UP, was a gift from God to Katlego. Now he knows God as his Creator and his Spiritual Father, who provides for him and made him for a purpose.

He trusts God and believes in Jesus as his Saviour and Protector.

Prayer Requests Please pray for Katlego and the other students. Pray that God would provide job opportunities for them and that He would bless the work of their hands as they enter the workforce.

ZEAL FOR LIFE CBN together with Zeal for Life which focuses on providing care and guidance to children with difficult-to-manage behaviour have made a difference in the lives of many young adults.

One of the boys living with the care parents who is 18 years old recently tried to explain the lessons he learnt while living with the care parents for the past two years on their farm.

He struggled to express himself, but became very emotional as he tried to explain that working with animals that had been previously abused / neglected (the care parents received 2 cattle that were treated badly before) made him understand his own pain and how one has to build relationships with other traumatized individuals. He learnt the value of trust and patience.

WITH MONTESSORI, IT ENCOURAGES DISCIPLINE, RESPECT AND ENABLES THE CHILDREN TO USE THEIR OWN INITIATIVE. IT TEACHES THEM TO FOLD THEIR OWN CLOTHES, CUT THEIR OWN BREAD, TIE THEIR SHOE LACES AND DO MANY OTHER THINGS THAT THEY NEED TO LEARN FOR PRACTICAL LIFE...

WITH MONTESSORI THE KIDS ARE ABLE TO GET ON WITH THEIR WORK AND DO IT ON THEIR OWN EVEN IF THE CLASS HAS ONE TEACHER.IT ALSO TEACHES THE KIDS TO WORK TOGETHER. THEY PICK UP THEIR ACTIVITY AND THE TEACHER IS THE FACILITATOR. WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT MONTESSORI IS THAT THE KIDS END UP LOVING IT BECAUSE ITS 'PLAY' FOR THEM AND THEY LOVE TO LEARN AND PLAY! WHEN THEY GET TO GRADE ONE THEY END UP BEING MORE ADVANCED THAN THE OTHER CHILDREN AND THEY ARE ABLE TO USE THEIR OWN INITIATIVE, FOCUS AND GET THEIR WORK DONE... - Bec (Life Child Director, SA)

accommodate more children and staff and that we can get in more educational equipment for the children to use.

FIRST 1000 DAYS

SAMARITANS

CBN supports the 1st 1000 days program to help moms and their babies. One of the focus areas of the program is to equip pregnant women and mothers of new babies, especially those who are HIV+ to raise their children to stay HIV- and to make wise choices for themselves and their children.

21 moms successfully completed the 8 week curriculum. The group was treated with a lunch where they shared testimonies at a graduation ceremony. The trainers were able to highlight and educate the mothers about child safety, good nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding and immunization compliance of the baby. Each graduate was encouraged and received a certificate as well as a valuable gift.

Through the Samaritans and CBN partnership a delicious lunch was prepared for 25 elderly people. The group really enjoyed a home cooked meal and the connect time. 8 take-away meals were also handed-out to the needy.

Clothing and goods were also donated to be sold at a local market. The income received from the sales will be used to help the elderly in need.

In addition to this, a food parcel was put together and given to a family of four that were in desperate need of help.

Prayer Request Pray that God will continue to use this project to bless the community in need with meals and clothing.

Prayer Request Please pray for the support group facilitators to be blessed with a vision for the needs in the community and to have a heart to be able to comfort and provide care.

SUPERBOOK MZANSI Superbook Mzansi has just been launched in Port Elizabeth into various schools and churches. CBN's Superbook Manager, Yolanda Magida also shared her vision for Superbook on TBN Africa (Channel 343 on DSTV) on the 21st of May 2018 with Loyiso Bala.

Prayer Requests Pray that every child that comes into contact with Superbook has an encounter with the living God and will be equipped to do missions for Christ.

WHATS HAPPENING IN CBN AFRIQUE? CBN Afrique through its video outreach events exposed 9,783 people to the gospel resulting in 1,903 for Christ through 25 outreaches across the region. Superbook Clubs were able to minister to 4,324 children resulting in 127 decisions for Christ. Also, 27 new kids’ club monitors were trained during the month under review.

EBENEZER WELFARE SUPPORTING AND CARING ORGANISATION CBN has partnered with Ebenezer which is a center that provides a place of care for orphans, vulnerable and neglected children. Social services regularly place children at Ebenezer to receive the necessary care. Ebenezer is also used as an emergency shelter in cases of neglect or abuse toward children or the elderly.The elderly are also taken care of in a retirement home with caretakers to assist those who are bedridden. Over the last few months CBN has been able to assist Ebenezer by purchasing groceries to make meals, refueling the on-site vehicle to transport the children to school and church, purchasing much needed internet data as well as paying for a tracker for the onsite vehicle.
