Fleurish Established in 1990, Country Baskets was founded by Paul and Linda Spencer. The business started off as a small market stall in The Piece Hall, Halifax, selling a selection of baskets and dried floral arrangements that had been created in their own garage! The business grew from strength to strength, becoming the UK’s largest wholesaler of floristry supplies and artificial flowers. Country Baskets now have eight stores up and down the country and stock over 25,000 different products. Throughout the history of Country Baskets, trade customers have been integral to the business. In 2007 we introduced Gold Card preferential pricing and over the years we have continued to grow the Gold Card purchasing advantage.

Fleurish aims to let all customers know what’s happening in and around the business while answering any commonly asked questions, but most importantly we hope that Fleurish will allow us to continue to engage with the florist community - an industry full of creative and passionate people! As this newsletter grows and develops we plan to feature customer news, ideas, and photographs. If you have anything you’d love to share please send it to: firstname.lastname@example.org
“One arranges flowers as the spirit moves you; to obey some inner prompting to put this colour with that, to have brilliance here, line there, a sense of opulence in this place or sparseness in that; to suit your surroundings, your mood, the weather, the occasion. In a word, to do as you please, just as, if you could, you might paint a picture.”
Constance Spry OBE

A fabulous Master Class
Back in March we were joined by Pim van den Akker at our Bristol store for a unique three day programme for Florists and Designers. Pim inspired a new approach to discover how flowers, plants and materials exist to create their own atmosphere and tell their own story.
Ann Meyer “I just wanted to say what a fabulous time I had at the
Pim masterclass. Everything you organised for us was fantastic, thank you. I’m now finding space for all the sundries I bought! Many thanks again, do let me know if you ever do anything similar again.”
“I cannot thank you enough for organising such a fantastic eye opening experience. I felt so lucky in winning the place on this master class, and yes it was better than winning the lottery. The 3 days were outstanding, I have learnt so much, about myself, and have gained so many new ideas, a huge amount of inspiration, new friends, many laughs and most of all confidence. I have also realised that I can do this with British Flowers. Pim, Wow, he is amazing, he has an incredible skill with flowers and a wonderful teaching style, eye for detail and the combination of materials used with flowers has got me thinking. His techniques will stay with me forever, I love his unique style. I shall certainly be looking out for other masterclasses. I can not thank you enough for the best experience.”
“ Thank you for the “Such a lovely and “Again a big thank workshop and all inspiring workshop you I had such a you did it was a I am still thinking great time. To learn new techniques is always brilliant but Ab Pim made it look so effortless. Timelines are something I will now be seriously practising together with the list of tips he generously gave. Once again very many thanks not only for the masterclass but the friendship shown to us by all. Needless to say we would be interested to know if you are holding any similar events in the future.”

Whilst hosting Pim’s three day workshop we were very lucky to have the opportunity to talk to him about his insights, inspirations and ethos; read below for the full interview with Pim himself.
Pim how did you come to be a florist? I never wanted to be a florist, I wanted to be a forest ranger but there isn’t a lot of forest in Inspirational and extraordinary Holland! Being dyslexic I had to go to a special school at the time and there was lots The talented FLORIST AND DESIGNER of bullies, so I got bullied a lot. talks writing books and natural rhythm In school there was Animal Care, Gardening or Floristry and What advice would you give to How long did that take? basically everyone was bullying It took 2 years to write and then other florists? me so that was not nice, but the I went to 9 publishers who all The more you practice using ones that didn’t bully me were the said no because my name wasn’t techniques including clamping, girls and they all went to floristry. I known, but the 10th publisher said pressure, waving, and platting; thought I don’t want to be bullied “great let’s do it.” With that book I the more secure you will feel with anymore so I will do floristry. got my masters degree and to my it and you will notice there are surprise the book was sold in 21 lots of possibilities. Royal Favourites The flower of Love Every Royal Bride has one!
The royal wedding on May 19th was such a glorious celebration filled with royal wedding traditions, such as the use of a myrtle sprig in Meghan’s bouquet to symbolise love and marriage. This flowering ritual was uprooted straight from Queen Victoria’s own 170-year-old garden and rumour has it; the myrtle plant was given to her in the 1800’s by the grandmother of her husband, Prince Albert.
roses, peony, hydrangea, wisteria, and many more!
Meghan’s Favourite Meghan’s favourite flower is rumoured to be a peony, this symbolic flower also featured in the royal wedding flowers, creating a beautiful arch at the entrance of the chapel to set the most delightful scene.

Royal brides typically choose paler colours of white, ivory and cream; incorporating scented and traditionally British flowers. Meghan’s bouquet was beautiful, containing natural shades of white and classic cream; with a special sentiment to Diana as forget-me-nots were thoughtfully added to the simple and yet symbolic bouquet. Kate’s stunning royal bouquet contained hyacinths, lily of the valley and sweet williams. Diana’s cascading bouquet included gardenias, stephanotis, orchids, lily of the valley, roses, freesia, veronica, spider lilies, ivy and the gorgeously structured pale orchids that Queen Elizabeth 2nd carried.
