Technology and humanism, the pieces to train the talent of the new digital age

Josep M. Santos, General Director of La Salle-URL and co-President of the CBC

The social context of constant changes and accumulating challenges demands a proactive spirit from us. The world is evolving fast. Companies are an example of adaptation and university education, a breeding ground for the talent that companies need, must know how to reinvent itself.

The professional sector detects the lack of profiles that will be key and the university identifies trends to help the talent of the future emerge. Our Corporate Board Council have an impact on this reflection on the training of talent and the adaptation of academic plans to the new social, business and employability realities. Active participation and the establishment of alliances —based on the ideas of the UN SDGs and the Vatican’s Laudatio Si— encourage us to maintain the dialogue we have established.

The challenge is an opportunity: educate better future professionals and benefit society in general. The global educational pact derived from Laudatio Si, tells us about educating to cultivate a critical spirit, to train innovative, responsible people with values, capable of cultivating beauty and better accompanying the world. In this sense, humanism and technology go hand in hand.

We work together to give today’s students the tools to succeed as tomorrow’s professionals with the Delors report’s vision of learning to do, to live together, to be. We train digital, innovative transformers who undertake collaboratively, who participate in the global world to lead for the benefit of the community. We train talent committed to sustainability and social justice, which vindicates the importance of the humanist values that we cultivate with a comprehensive education.

Our main agreement must be to unite for a better future, to promote the best possible training, seek a fit in the best companies and that, together, we help to consolidate the best possible partnership.
