Page 1

Welcome FROM DERSTA FARM LTD

Welcome to the Dersta Farm 3rd Annual Bull Sale. We’re proud to offer 40+ Red and Black Angus bulls, along with a select group of Black red-carrier bulls. We will also be selling 10 hand-picked commercial open replacement heifers.

Our most heartfelt thankyou to all of our repeat buyers who have trusted Dersta Farm genetics and put them to work in their own herds. Your support means a lot to us. We also appreciate everyone who took the time to come out, tour the cows on pasture, and look at the bulls and their dams ahead of sale day. We believe in showing cattle where they’re raised and letting them speak for themselves.

This is an exciting time to be in the cattle business. We truly believe the strong market we’re seeing today is more than just a short-lived spike. With herd numbers where they are and demand remaining strong, we feel the outlook for the cow-calf sector is positive for the long haul. We are very optimistic about what lies ahead for our industry.

Our cow herd is built around good, solid mother cows with strong udders, sound feet, and the kind of fertility that keeps a program moving forward. We run on a strict 60-day breeding season—no second chances. If they don’t breed, they don’t stay. Plain and simple. We believe fertility and longevity are what keep ranches profitable in the long run.

We’ve backed off on heavy AI use and now rely more on our walking herd sires. That gives us bigger sire groups, both in bulls and heifers, so we can better see how a bull truly stamps his calves and how consistent they are. We also make selective use of embryo transfer as a tool to move our program forward, only on cows that truly represent what Dersta Farm stands for. Our donor females have proven themselves in real-world conditions and accurately reflect our goals for maternal strength, udder quality, foot soundness, fertility, and longevity. These are not just cows that look good in pictures — they are cows that have raised above average calves, breed back on time, and hold up year after year. Embryo transfer allows us to multiply our very best, while keeping the foundation of our herd built on practical, hard-working cows.

We stand behind what we sell. Every bull is structurally sound, developed with longevity in mind, and will be semen tested and guaranteed a sound breeder before sale day. Our goal is to provide the best bull power we can to your herd and get your cows bred early with calves that grow.

We encourage everyone to come look at the cattle, view the dams, ask questions, and visit with us about what you’re looking for. We’re proud of this set of bulls and heifers and believe they’ll go out and work for you.

Welcome FROM CASTLEROCK MARKETING

Welcome to the Dersta Farms Bull Sale and will notice that this family is aggressive in their passions in both their farming and purebred sectors and with that the pay off is evident. Notably a high quality set of walking bulls grace the pastures backed up by strong, productive cow families that are consistent. With this set of herd bulls breeding the cows there are larger sire groups to not only benefit you as a customer in purchasing your bull(s) but the females retained then also become closer related, sharing more the same genetics to improve consistency. Also highlighting the sale again this year is an impressive set of ET calves that are impressive!

The bulls as always have been developed in a proper manner not emphasizing growth alone but the development of these young herdsires to ensure your investment offers the highest returns. The bulls are fed in a paddock allowing for lots of exercise and room to rumble keeping the muscle tone to them. Most importantly, this is a family operation as the next generation are active in the chores from, feeding, bedding, health checks and any other day to day duty neccesary. Erika, Lexie and Logan carry the same passion as Derek and Stacey, in other words the future is in good hands at Dersta Farms.

Be sure to stop in ahead of the sale if time allows to view the bull pen and to discuss with the Dersta crew your needs and what bull(s) fit your description, you sourcing the properbull to achieve your goals is first and foremost. If we can be of any assistance to you and your selection criteria feel welcome to reach out and discuss the offering, we know the herd very well, your success is ours!

See you sale day!

Herd HEALTH

Over the past year I have had the privilege to work with Derek, Stacey and the kids and see the development of their bulls firsthand. Even with record cattle prices, the importance of finding cattle that work for you and your program is paramount. Dersta Farms have put together a great group of bulls to fill many needs. The herd health program of the bulls starts with the cow herd. The cows are on a modified live vaccination program with Bovishield Gold FP5, given 6 weeks prior to breeding. The cows receive a Clostridial and Scour vaccine in the fall, along with a dose of Multimin. Newborn calves are given Vitamin ADE and selenium, a toltrazuril bolus, and a dose of Bovilis Nasalgen. At turn out, calves are vaccinated with Vision 8 somn, Bovisheild Gold one shot and Pinkeye Shield. At weaning, calves are revaccinated with Vision 8 somn and Bovishield Gold one shot. Derstra Farm also uses FerAppease to help reduce the stress of calves at this time. Sale bulls will be boosted in the early part of Feburary with Vision 8 somn and Bovishield Gold one shot, as well as the first dose of Fusoguard with a second dose given prior to the sale. A combination of Cylence and Ivomec is used for antiparastic control. This comprises a very thorough herd health program for their animals.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above herd health program for Dersta Farm Ltd. animals, please do not hesitate to reach out for further discussion.

Calving EASE AND BIRTHWEIGHT

University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions:

• The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%.

• The female has 60-70% influence on birth weight of her calf.

• The bull has 30-40% influence on birth weight of his progeny.

• Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calve have 3540% influence on calving ease.

• Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation.

• Weather and temperature in the last 30 days affect the length of gestation.

• Size and maturity of the cow influence calving ease.

"It is a pleasure working with Stacey and Derek of Dersta Farm, along with their three kids who are actively involved in every part of this family run cattle operation. You will be hard pressed to find a family more committed to raising sound, functional cattle backed by a strong and consistent nutrition program. Whether you are looking to add performance, structure, or longevity to your herd, buyers can have confidence that Dersta bulls have been developed with long-term fertility, soundness and overall herd value in mind.

Dersta Farm utilizes a comprehensive mineral and feeding program year-round, balanced with both chelated minerals and high-quality rumen modifiers for optimal performance and gut health. All forages are home grown and analyzed to ensure accurate nutrition decisions are made for the cowherd, developing replacement females, and growing bulls. Calves are started on a highly digestible creep feed in the spring to promote early frame development, rumen maturity and lean muscle growth without encouraging excess fat

muscle gr aging e

Once calves are weaned, bulls are transitioned to a TMR program and developed using a 16% protein pellet. This pellet blends rumen degradable and rumen undegradable protein sources to support steady lean development, hoof integrity, and efficient gain. Organic minerals and a rumen probiotic are incorporated to optimize gut health, immune response and glucose absorption, helping bulls manage environmental or dietary stressors while supporting overall health and uniform development

The feeding program emphasizes balanced energy, protein and mineral nutrition rather than high calorie “push” development. This creates bulls that are structurally correct, athletic, and ready to work, with longevity and reproductive confidence once they enter a breeding environment. The same nutritional philosophy and mineral program are used on the cowherd, supporting conception, calf vigor and overall long-term reproductive performance. If you have any questions regarding the nutrition program behind these bulls, please feel free to reach out
