The College Media Team have been very busy recently covering events for the Youth Sports Trust, reporting from the Whole Education Conference and even picking up a gong at the Active Rutland Awards. The team have produced a huge number of brilliant reports and interviews, all of which can be found on our award winning Make Waves channel Look out for their exclusive interview with the current world and former Olympic and commonwealth 400m champion, Christine Ohuruogu. “I thoroughly enjoyed the Whole Education Conference as it gave me the opportunity to interview those I wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to, while at the same time improving my interview skills”

FUTURE CHEF 2014 - THE RESULTS The much anticipated Future Chef 2014 local final took place on 2 December at Stamford College, with James Carter representing the College after winning the College heat in September. As always, the competition has stringent rules which have to be followed. This year’s task was to create a main course and a dessert, all for less than seven pounds and presented on the table within 90 minutes. James produced two fantastic dishes under pressure and presented each one to a very high standard. He made tortellini’s of smoked salmon and goats cheese, which was

complemented with a tuille basket of berries with vanilla crème fraiche. The pressure of the event was intense, however James handled this with ease and demonstrated great culinary professionalism throughout. The judges were rightly extremely impressed with the two dishes that James produced. James finished runner up in the competition, which he should be exceptionally proud of given the immense amount of competition on the day from all of the other schools in the area. Well done James!

ROTARY YOUNG CHEF COMPETITION WINNERS! Catmose College hosted the Rotary Club Young chef competition on 4th December, the second time that the College has been honoured by being asked to stage the event. The challenge set was to create a main course and a dessert for two people as economically as possible. All dishes then had to be presented on a decorated table for judging. We had three entrants; Francesca Horne, James Carter and Ellie Loxton, all of whom

performed fantastically and were a true credit to the College. Ellie’s menu consisted of pan fried cod served with butternut squash, fondant and sauce vierge, and a dessert of cranberry and clementine cakes with orange syrup. Francesca created spicy fish with potato wedges and home-made mushy peas, followed by a lemon soufflé dessert. James’ contribution was homemade tortellini’s of salmon with hollandaise sauce and

spinach. This was complemented with a dessert consisting of a basket of red fruits with a vanilla crème fraiche. All of the students that took part received certificates. James Carter finished as the overall winner of the competition, with Ellie Loxton finishing third.

YOUNG AMBASSADORS Some of our sports leaders recently travelled to Pride Park, Derby for a Young Ambassadors conference. They attended workshops to improve their leadership skills and worked with Sam Ruddick the Paralympic sprinter for Great Britain. They were inspired by his session and were delighted when he joined them for lunch. The leaders will now become our Young Ambassadors and will help promote sport in College and in the wider community. As part of their role they will also be going into primary schools to help introduce young primary leaders.
