Giving to the Decatur Parks Foundation

Thank you for considering a donation to the Decatur Parks Foundation! Gifts of any size help benefit the quality of life for all in our community. Gifts of Cash Donations in any amount may be designated for a particular department or project of your choice and are considered tax-deductible by the IRS. You may make a donation online or via cash or check at any Park District location. Matching Gifts More than 1,300 companies sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. Some companies will match gifts made by retirees or board members, as well. If you or your spouse work for a matching gift company, please request a form from the personnel office or download one from the company website. Please complete the form, sign it, and send in with your gift. The impact of your contribution to the Decatur Parks Foundation will be doubled or possibly tripled! A Gift in your Will We hope you will consider including a gift to the Decatur Park District or Decatur Parks Foundation in your will or living trust. Called a charitable bequest, this type of gift offers the following main benefits: • Simplicity. Just a few sentences in your will or trust are all that is needed. • Flexibility. Because you are not actually making a gift until after your lifetime, you can change your mind at any time. • Versatility. You can structure the bequest to leave a specific item or amount of money, make the gift contingent on certain events, or leave a percentage of your estate to us. • Tax Relief. If your estate is subject to estate tax, your gift is entitled to an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift’s full value.

Art & Collectibles Your gift should be accompanied by a “deed of gift stating your name, a description of the property, and estimate of its value. Gifts in Memoriam If you are considering a memorial gift, please contact the Parks Foundation office. We would be grateful to provide various options to celebrate the life of your loved one. Capital Projects Capital projects are always on the horizon as the Decatur Park District continues to grow and improve. Please contact our office to learn what projects are currently being considered. Real Estate Gifts of real estate may include principal or vacation homes, farms, commercial property or land. Tangible property can include works of art, equipment, and other goods. We would be happy to work with you and your financial planner to determine how such gifts can fit into your estate planning. Gifts of Publicly Traded Securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) Stock, bonds, real estate and other assets that have been held for at least one year and one day are accepted by the Decatur Parks Foundation as charitable contributions. Life insurance policies are also accepted as gifts. Endowments Earnings from an endowed gift provide an annual revenue stream that supports the Foundation or Park District area or project identified. Because only the earnings are spent, an endowment gift benefits the Decatur Park District forever.
