The models explore a heavily engineered infrastructural landscape element. The 12 La Granja Escalators climb over 39m and help reconnect the modern road system with the historic fortress city. The tunnel connecting parking to the escalators subversively break through the historic fortress wall. The escalators are embedded deep in the steep hillside and are only visible through one long cut in the landscape. This project challenges how infrastructure is built, to not only be pragmatic but poetic. Historic Fortress Wall

CREATING REFUGE Translating a three-dimensional teapot into different two-dimensional iterations leads to massive changes in how the teapot is understood. When these teapot translations are super imposed onto one another the teapot is lost and a new fortified form emerges. And now, an unlikely dialog can occur between the fortified form and the translated outlook of Elysian Park. Again, through a process of cut and fill, with the composed form, a new landscape arises, replacing the once dilapidated site with a new site possessing many points or refuge and prospect.
